★ Introducing Smogon's Major LIVE VGC Tournament

Hi everyone, the TD team is excited to announce that we will be hosting our first major VGC tournament since the 2013 Official VGC Tournament 12 years ago.

While this tournament will not immediately have a trophy, depending on the reception and success this year, it will be under consideration to receive a trophy starting in 2026.

What makes this tournament format unique is that it will follow the standard format that most VGC live events follow: a 2-day live event. Here's what you need to know:

• Two-day live VGC tournament hosted on Pokémon Showdown. Day 1: Swiss bracket, Day 2: additional Swiss rounds, single-elimination bracket, and finals
• Will be streamed on our Twitch and YouTube channels
• Will take place between NAIC and Worlds, the perfect opportunity for VGC mains to test for worlds and for Smogon users to compete with the best in the world. The tentative weekend is July 19-20.
• After Regulation I is announced, our VGC leaders will host mini tournaments leading up to our main event for users to practice and study the metagame

Prizes

• A Cash Prize will be available. We will be running donation drives leading up to this event in addition to fronting a cash prize. Placing in the top 8 will earn you part of the pool.
• Custom Avatar to the winner
• Profile banner comparable to current VGC worlds winners, and as mentioned above, future iterations may include a trophy in your postbit

We will provide more information as the deadline draws closer. We are excited to once again provide a live tournament that aligns closely with the current VGC format and look forward to making VGC more readily available to our user base!

Hi folks, today we got the announcement for Regulation I. As many active players speculated, it is a 2 Restricted (think Ubers like Miraidon, Calyrex, Kyogre etc) format. We will be running some practice tournaments on our limitless page later this month in the lead up to the live event, but if you're itching for practice right now, you can sign up for the seasonal circuit tour here. The format is also live on Pokemon Showdown already, and you can discuss it in the VGC room, the Smogon VGC Discord, or #vgctour in the Smogon Tournaments server.

We will be offering several of these practice tournaments early in Reg I leading up to our major tournament happening in July before Worlds!
