Hi,

As of today, we (Tiering Admins) are abolishing the terms "Official" and "Core" metagames. The "official" and "core" metagame definitions are out of date and no longer really serve our purposes, and so we will be abolishing them. In return, we will be using the terms "Top-Level Formats" and "Top-Level Sections".

The top-level formats are:
OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, Ubers, LC, Monotype, DOU, VGC, BSS, Draft

The top-level sections are:
OMs, UMs, NatDex, Petmods, CAP

Official Tours: They are entirely at the discretion of the TDs. We don't expect major changes on that front, as this was essentially already the case, but now it's official.

Tiering policy: Top-level formats will still be expected to follow official tiering policy, excluding those that are outside our tiering framework (VGC, BSS, Draft). Top-level formats will still get the Tiering Contributor badge at 4 votes, while all other formats will get it at 6 votes.

We are doing this to mostly remove the red tape that came with outdated definitions around Core / Official. It is also useful to note that comparison between Top-Level Formats and Top-Level Sections isn't possible: e.g., OU is a top-level format, while Natdex OU is a format under a top-level section. This also removes the silliness of having the actual official metagame (VGC) be labeled as not an official Smogon format. It is also useful to note that RoA is exempt from these criteria.
