iPhone/iTouch Capability?

I was just wondering if it's possible to code shoddy into an app for them. I don't know how getting all that approval stuff works so I'm not suggesting it, I just wanted to know if it can be done.

Well, Shoddy's written in Java and apparently iPhone apps are written in objective C. If you Google "iphone apps java" you get some talk of it, but I also see this: "Apple's license agreement for the iPhone SDK prohibits the porting of the Java virtual machine to the iPhone." And then it goes on to talk about a cross-compiler. Those never work all that well. I imagine if you attempted it you'd run into a number of issues with where you'd have to change the program to fix it. You'd also need familiarity with the intricacies of the iPhone SDK....and of course it should go without saying that you should have strong skills in both languages

tl;dr: It's probably technically possible but it would be no small feat (especially if you chose to re-code it from the ground up)

If you mean approval with regard to Shoddybattle, that is not needed. Shoddybattle is free as in freedom, meaning you can do what you like with it, as long as you give those same freedoms to any users of your program.

However, Colin has stated before there is no future plans for him or Bearzly to release this on the iPhone.

There is no way that you could port the shoddy battle code to the iPhone, so it would have to be written from the ground up. It will be a lot more feasible to do with shoddy battle 2, since the networking and team formats are a lot simpler.

I might start doing some iPhone programming myself so there is a remote chance of it happening, but it's a fair bit of work for not too many people. There's also the $99 entry fee to release apps. As Obi said though, anyone is free to make an app if they are capable.
