iPod Touch 8GB/8GB 3G

So I want an iPod Touch for Christmas, an 8GB one. 16GB is a bit too far out of my price reach.

Whilst looking at the Argos website, there's two models...

This, the 'NEW 3G' one:

And this, the standard 8GB one:

The problem is that the 'NEW 3G' one, which is, well, 'new', is the same memory, but £15 cheaper. I can't seem to find what the difference is between the two - there's bound to be a catch.

I don't know what 3G means, if that's of help at all.

Pre-thanks,

Masamune

Pretty sure 3G means 3rd generation in this case.3G usually means something for phones, but that has nothing to do with the ipod touch as it isn't a phone.

The 3G (3rd generation) one has bluetooth (the other one you have to pay a fee), the other one doesn't. I think the standard has a bit more audio battery life by 6 hours.

Any advice on which I should go for then?
If someone could list all of the features that are missing from the 3G one (compared to the standard), that'd be great.

Thanks, I appreciate this :happybrain:

The 2G (second generation) gained the ability of bluetooth in the 3.0 firmware update, last June. Coincidently with the release of the iPhone 3GS.

Anyways, I am almost certain that the 8 GB "standard" one is no different than the 8 GB 3G (third generation one)

However, if you desire the third generation iPod Touch, purchase either the 16, 32, 64 GB models. Those contain an updated GPU and processor, resulting in better 3-D game performance and speed equivalent to the iPhone 3GS. The only thing Apple did for the 8 GB iPod Touch 3G is reduce the price to a oh so attractive $199. Other than that, the real changes lie starting at the 16 GB level, which by the way will set you back $299.

Ok, I just jailbreaked it but I have no signals so I can't call any one.

What do I do in that scenario?

I'm using a T-Mobile sim card btw.

Of course you have no signal, no shocker there. The iPhone is designed to run only on AT&T in America. If you want to use your iPhone on T-Mobile, that requires unlocking your iPhone. Unlocking and jailbreaking are not the same thing.

At the end it should have asked if you want to install sn0w as well as Cydia. Do that.

There are not any differences between the 3rd generation version of the 8GB iPod-Touch version and the 2nd generation one.

Apple only improved the 32 GB Version. My advise for you is to buy the 32 GB version, its way more expensive, yes, but its way better. The graphic engine and the processor performance are superior to the 8 GB Version.
Do not spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar. :)

Ipod touches are pointless. Just get a smartphone or something, you obviously don't want a 120 - 160gb classic one which is what I'd recommend.
