-Iron Sarenjai- (OU Offense)

It's been awhile since I posted a team here on Smogon. It really does take a long time. I thought I'd share it since I've had so much fun with it.

Best Lead Evur (Yanmega) (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 100 Def/156 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Protect
- Air Slash
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground]

It's been a long time since I used Yanmega on a serious team. I'm thrilled to be using it again and since back in the DP era I counted on Yanmega to lead my team 90% of the time! Using this infernal bug again brings back all kinds of memories of whooping ass with Hypno-mega. In this metagame, most people have forgotten about Yanmega and how to deal with it once it begins to gain speed boosts. It's STAB combination of Air Slash and Bug Buzz allow it surprising coverage. Skarm is one of the biggest problems, but even Heatran and Magnezone fall to Yanmega's HP ground OHKO without shuca. Protect is good for scouting and stalling foe effects such as weather and screens. Protect helps in dealing with scarfers (namely heatran) who come in to stop her~

101.5% - 120.1% = Naive ScarfTran (no EVs)
91.6% - 109% = Timid Heatran (no EVs)
121% - 143.8% = Timid Magnezone (no EVs)

People just stop and gawk trying to figure out a) Why I'm using this thing that is quad weak to SR. b) what the hell it is at all. c) How the hell do I stop it. Stopping Yanmega is not given much thought in todays team building process due to it's absense which we take full advantage of.

Yanmega [Vs.] Top OU Leads

dpicon482.png

Yanmega can start to Bug Buzz right off the bat with it's F-sash intact. Many people assume Yan will Protect while they SR Big mistake. If they attack right off the bat, they will not get SR down unless Yan gets burned by F-blast or Para'd by T-bolt. If Azelf didn't have a sash on this would be a OHKO.

dpicon376.png

Yanmega can Bug Buzz off the bat again. Worse case Meta acts like 1)Meteor M. 2) Bulletpunch. Yanmega does 44.5% - 52.7% dmg to 252HP Meta with one Bug Buzz. 3KHO in almost every situation and if BBuzz drops Meta's S.def (2KO).

dpicon260.png

Yanmega can Bug Buzz again. Then Air Slash (hoping for flinch) then Bug Buzz for the finisher. Yanmega's BBuzz = 40.3% - 47.8% to 252HP Swampert. Which usually sets up rocks. Ice Beam is only enough to take out half of Yanmega's health.

dpicon385.png

Yanmega opens up swinging with Bug Buzz yet again. 44% - 51.6% to zero defensive EV Jirachi. Another 3KHO sadly. Ratchi sets up rocks, or tricks, wishes, or some other strange thing allowing Yan to take it out. I don't think it's ever been much of a problem. Protect, scarf Iron Head from Ratchi only does 38.7% - 46% (this is coming from max attack Adamant)

dpicon142.png

Aero is trouble. I usually Bug Buzz for the hopeful S.def drop and attack while they SR. They may RSlide and flinch me screwing me over. After BB I go for AS just for flinching chance. Yanmega does not have any advantage over Aero.

dpicon392.png

I love going up against 'Nape. Protect against their pitiful Fake-Outs. ASlash flinching them, taking off their sash and stopping SR setup. It's brilliant. Even if they start attacking I can win with Speed Boost.

dpicon407.png

Protect. Airslash. Spikes aren't a big deal. Rozy will 2HKO at most. By that time I will know if it is scarfed lead Rozy. Always using protect.

dpicon485.png

F-sash Yan fears no (BAN ME PLEASE)! Opens up with HP ground while they hopefully SR. (even with Shuca) HP ground is a garunteed 2HKO.

dpicon248.png

Bug Buzz is 2KHO doing 49.5% - 58.4% to even 252HP Tars. Or I may even switch depending. Max SpD. Tar leads may give Yan trouble. Tar will usually come out on top but not after it's been weakened to the point of unusable.

dpicon472.png

AirSlash for the flinch and the neutral. Might get lucky and 3KHO without being hit once. If it SRs and Yan flinchs the turn after. It will be. 37.1% - 44.1% damage to Yanmega with Ice/Fire fang (Max attack Jolly) Yanmega is fine for defense.

Yanmega. If SR gets nerfed. It'll be top 10. Count on that. Reminding me once again just why and how it's my favorite pokemon.

Draken (Gyarados) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 80 HP/240 Atk/188 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance
- Bounce
- Taunt

With enough speed to take on Max Spe Ttars, Magnezones and Adamant Max Spe Brelooms. After a Dance, enough to outspeed Azelf, Starmie and Raikou. 80 HP for a 20 stat boost allows it a touch of extra bulk (enough to take 82.2% - 97.9% Starmie Tbolt (no SpA EVs 236 stat) and pull a DD and Bounce for the win. Taunt classic DP and more unexpectedness. Taunt allows for more DDs to be built! Leftovers for survivability in sandstorm. Bounce helps to replenish Gyara's health without Sandstorm or Hail in play. Allowing it much staying power for an attacker.

Red XIII (Infernape) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 48 Atk/232 Spd/228 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Flamethrower
- Close Combat
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Attacks chosen to ensure optimal coverage. My favorite 'Nape set. The most coverage any pokemon could really have in one set. Fast enough to outspeed base 105 (just in case). Life Orb to power up those 1HKO's. Given a chance, this set could rip apart whole teams.

pkfrlg149.png

Phat Knight (Dragonite) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 116 Atk/196 Spd/196 SAtk
Rash nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Superpower
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Extremespeed

So I was checking out the new downloadable team option. I decided to try it out and generate a team. So I was looking through the Dragonite section when I found this set. Extremespeed was replaced by Roost. I thought this as a good time to use Dragonite since I had never been one to use it (or any Dragon for that matter). And whoa, does this thing ever rock for breaking things. It's got a massive priority, amazing coverage and is fairly quick with minimum EV investment to boot. Scizor and Forry do not mind being hit with a Flamethrower that just lost 2 stages of power. They will be taken out anyway. I was a bit wary about using a Dragon move that was not physical (since Blissey). But that is all purely psychological, I have Superpower for Tar and enough speed to always go faster unless it be scarfed up. Rash over Mild since Knight has a higher base SpD. Wonderful poke on any team!

473.png

Hogwash (Mamoswine) (F) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Substitute
- Earthquake
- Endeavor

In my opinion. This set is the best one to have on Mamoswine. Even after Salac Boost, It will not go faster then Aerodactyle or Jolteon, but who really cares when you have super effective Stab priority? Does it matter when Joleon has to have HP Fire or Fighting for it to OHKO? If Mamo is being a Sub, none of that matters. Endeavor SubSalac Mamo cold:
1)Sub
2)Sub (activates Salac)
3)Endeavor
4)Priority = Foe faints.
Now they have to deal with a Mamoswine traveling faster then Scarftar, primed with Endeavor and one of the most massive Earthquakes to date. I hope you brought a rotom. This set has been used with great success.

dpmfa376.png

Spider Slayer (Metagross) @ Macho Brace
Ability: Clear Body
EVs:176 HP/252 Atk/16 Def/44 Spd/20 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Trick
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Meta was going to be my Stealthy Rocker. Then I realized how much I hate SR and how much more fun it is to use MetaTrick! Rapid Spin users are on the rise. Simply by not having SR or residual setters on board I can render RS on their Starmie or Forry useless. I would have put SR on but there was just no room in the end and I didn't want to change anything. Typical Meta plowing set. Meteor and EQ compliment eachother. Explosion is for last resort. Macho Brace stops everything but the fastest of the fast. Even with the EVs given to this one, it will outspeed bases like 120 (Sceptile Alakazam) after Macho has been tricked.

dpicon482.png
Azelf - Usually a lead and usually the first one to go down to Yanmega. May be handled by priority. Gyara may have DD. Can be hit down on the switch and priority.

dpicon286.png
Breloom - May switch in on SubMamo or MetaTrick. Dragonite outspeeds adamant versions and will OKHO with LO Flamethrower. 'Nape is fast enough to hit it but switching it in is risky. Gyarados can come in Intimidate and Taunt so it would need Stone Edge. Quad weakness to Yanmega's Air Slash.

dpicon149.png
Dragonite - Dragon Dances get hit with the Iceshard. Lead Dragonites have a good chance of loosing to Yanmega if they are Physical based. Bring in Meta on the Outrage, trick and Meteor Mash or Explode for revenge takedown.

dpicon051.png
Dugtrio - IS UU!!! Might give Infernape and Meta a problem. (If metagross is already weakened)

dpicon466.png
Electivire - Considering this team uses no Electric attacks. Electivire is even worse off then before. Infernape can take it out with CC or Flamethrower. Mamo might be able to EQ. Metagross might be able to take a LO Flamethrower or LO T-bolt from it and KO. Yanmega has Bug Buzz and HP ground.

dpicon475.png
Gallade - WilloWisp sets can hurt Gyara severly. All in all Gallade is slow and will likely fall to Mamoswines EQ. (They may speed tie) Other then that, Gyarados handles Gallade. Dragonite can switch in on CC and Extreme Speed Gallade off the field. Yanmega AS will likely 1HKO Gallade forgetting about it's generous base SpD. stat.

dpicon094.png
Gengar - Can get out of hand. There is not anything that I can really send into take this guy's hits. The LO set is particular here. Yanmega can protect and Air Slash. Meta may trick and Meteor Mash. Dragonite might be able to take it's Shadow Ball and Draco Meteor. After a DD Gyarados will destroy any non-scarfed Gengar.

dpicon130.png
Gyarados - Send in Meta to Explode on the DD. Gyara might be sent in to intimidate and taunt. Mamoswine is usually faster and can Sub while Gyara DDs and waterfalls leading to an Endeavor and Ice Shard for the win. If it's weak enough 'Nape could come in and finish it off with LO GKnot. Yanmega usually beats Gyara leads anyway.

dpicon485.png
Heatran - Need to know if it's Scarf or Other. Yanmega to HP ground. If non-scarfed, Infernape. Gyarados will be able to set up on the non exploders and HP electrics. Mamosubsalac will kill it so long as Mamo is one step in head of the switch in. If it's locked into one attack, it can be dealt with handily.

dpicon214.png
Heracross - Gyarados with Intimidate, Dragonite can take CCs for around 33% and Extreme Speed or DD. Yanmega can Protect and Air Slash for Quad damage. Both can take Megahorns easily. Due to lack of use, I do not know how threatening Heracross is to this team.

dpicon392.png
Infernape - Extreme Speed Dragonite with Draco Meteor. Gyara can come in, take it's fire, DD and sweep. Yanmega destroys lead napes most of the time. Could be dangerous I guess...

dpicon135.png
Jolteon - After a DD. Jolteon is still faster. Mamoswine loves to set up Sub on Jolteon since HP Ice does little damage HP Grass is also very weak. Iceshard after EQ will finish F-sashed Jolteons. Priority Dragonite again which neutralizes all of Jolteons attack (save for HP Ice) can threaten with Superpower and Draco Meteor. After a single Speed Boost Yanmega outspeeds base 130 pokemon. It's not going to want to switch into anything anyway.

dpicon380.png
Latias - Metagross works well with trick and Meteor Combo. It's attacks unboosted are rather weak (t-bolt, surf). Mamo can usually 2KO a least. Yanmega again would tear this pokemon to shreds, burn and then ingest the ashes. Gyara after DD can Bounce and usually 1HKO.

dpicon230.png
Kingdra -Rain Dance can be delt with via, protecting with yanmega and switching to Gyarados.

dpicon448.png
Lucario - Gyarados again. Dragonite w/flamethrower is bulky enough to withstand an Extremespeed from Luke after SD. Unboosted Lucario can be flamethrowered by Infernape. Yanmega will stay into Air Slash.

dpicon068.png
Machamp - Can be bad if I forget that No Gaurd will attack Gyarados even if it has just bounced.

dpicon462.png
Magnezone - Magnezone is tough to face as it traps Scizor and Lucario and can come in on Salamence's Draco Meteor. Rotom-H is the best switch in to it. I'm inclined to say Sub Psuedo Boltbeam variants are harder to deal with since Rotom's Overheat gets progressively weaker against each use. Salamence, Latias, and Lucario threaten slower Magnezone, though.

dpicon473.png
Mamoswine - Rotom-H is a pretty solid check. It can either Shadow ball or Overheat. Lucario's +2 ExtremeSpeed OHKOs with entry hazards and Scizor's Bullet Punch is an excellent check as it OHKOs. Latias can take Ice Shard in a pinch if it isn't holding Choice Band.

dpicon376.png
Metagross - Meta leads have been 2HKO'd in the past, 3HKO maximum by Yan. 'Nape and Dragonite outspeed and can Flamethrower for SE. Mamoswine is SE with EQ. Gyarados can flinch with Waterfall and Bounce to avoid Explosion.

dpicon474.png
Porygon-Z - Gyara is taken aback switch into Mamoswine to deal. Infernape can OHKO nonscarfed versions. Meta can take Ice Beam aimed at Dragonite and Yanmega.

dpicon373.png
Salamence -Ice Shard Mamoswine. Extreme Speed Dragonite (if it's weakened after DD). Infernape outspeeds without DD and can OHKO in almost every situation with HP Ice. If Gyara gets a DD it can be taken out with Bounce which may paralize. Yanmega can 2HKO with Air Slash in most cases. Meta can come in on Outrage and Trick or Meteor or Explode.

dpicon212.png
Scizor - Dragonite may revenge kill. Infernape can OHKO and take a bullet punch.

dpicon121.png
Starmie - May cause alot of trouble. Meta is the one to go to if it can trick Iron Ball. If offensive then I could be heading down the drain. ExtremeSpeed does 64.8% - 76.2% to a starmie with no defensive EVs. Mamo can EQ the switch. Gyara can OHKO non defensive Starmie with Bounce after a DD 97.7% - 114.9% from Gyara. If it gets tricked Iron Ball it's fucked by Mamoswine EQ for 78.5% - 93.1%.

dpicon468.png
Togekiss - Gyara is usually faster and can taunt it's T-wave. It can set up effectively after that. Max 3HKO with GrassKnot. Mamo can super effective with Ice Shard for over half HP of Kiss most of the time. Dragonite is usually faster aswell and can Draco Meteor or Super Power. Infernape can CC for half damage on defensive based Kiss. Meta can Trick and Meteor Mash or Explode. Or just outright Explode. Yanmega can Air Slash.

dpicon248.png
Tyranitar - Infernape, Yanmega can deal damage, Dragonite outspeeds and OHKO's with Superpower. Mamoswine can EQ.

dpicon461.png
Weavile - Meta tanks this thing. Mamoswine will be taken out by LO Lowkick but that is situational. Gyarados also walls it.

dpicon469.png
Yanmega -I always kick this things ass. My Yanmega is the best! Ice Shard, DD Bounce, Extreme Speed Meta may take it with Meteor Mash after getting smacked with Bug Buzz. I don't have to worry about Yanmega anyway.

dpicon145.png
Zapdos - Offensive Sub Zapdos can be a problem. Bulky can be problem too.

I have to say, over all I really like it. You picked similar sets to the ones I use, especially on the gyrados. The Meta set is one I have never seen before, I and I have to say it looks like it could do well. It could completely shut down a physical or special sweeper with trick, but why not use iron ball? You could do EQ on more things, and it would shut down skarmory, and all the ghosts with levitate, and allow the Mamo to sweep more easily.

Just a thought, and rate me back
