Iron Treads is a great Choice Scarf user on Steel teams due to its great Speed tier, notably allowing it to outpace Volcarona after a Quiver Dance and Mega Charizard X after a Dragon Dance. It also has (sentence was getting long) a great variety of coverage moves, aiding against Landorus and the aforementioned Fire-types. Earthquake targets threats such as Heatran, Zeraora, Sneasler, and Gholdengo. Iron Head hits Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu, Iron Valiant, and Enamorus, while Volt Switch allows Iron Treads to maintain momentum and pivot out of unfavorable switch-ins like Pelipper and Slowbro. Ice Spinner hits Ground- and Dragon-types such as Landorus, Dragonite, and Garchomp while also aiding in the Flying matchup, removing Tornadus-T, Zapdos, and Gliscor. Furthermore, Ice Spinner removes Psychic Terrain for Mega Scizor, which relies on Bullet Punch. Stone Edge threatens Fire- and Flying-types like Volcarona, Articuno, and Mega Charizard Y. Alternatively, Knock Off pressures defensive switch-ins such as Rotom-W, Celesteela, and Ferrothorn while also being Iron Treads's best move against Air Balloon Gholdengo and Latias. Iron Treads can provide emergency entry hazard removal via Rapid Spin for faster-paced Steel teams. Hard Press is a niche option to remove frail targets like Meowscarada; however, Iron Head allows Iron Treads to revenge kill weakened Pokemon. Gholdengo is an excellent teammate that greatly capitalizes on Z-Moves, offers a Fighting-type immunity, and acts as a situational Ground-type immunity with Air Balloon. It also removes walls like Slowbro, Corviknight, and defensive Great Tusk. In return, Iron Treads offers a valuable answer to Fire-types such as Cinderace, Volcanion, and Victini. Heatran absorbs Fire-type attacks from faster threats like Choice Scarf Blacephalon and Iron Moth, in addition to setting up Stealth Rock to wear down switch-ins for Iron Treads. Celesteela and Corviknight offer a Ground-type immunity, walling Sand Rush Excadrill and Hippowdon. Furthermore, Corviknight provides slow pivoting via U-turn, while Celesteela pressures foes with residual chip damage using Toxic and Leech Seed. In exchange, Iron Treads threatens Electric-type Pokemon like Tapu Koko, Regieleki, and Sandy Shocks, as well as Fire teams, removing Hisuian Arcanine and Ceruledge once its Focus Sash has been broken. Ferrothorn is a great buffer against Water- and Ground- types like Gastrodon, Swampert, Mamoswine, and Slowking. Additionally, Ferrothorn boasts an array of utility options such as Leech Seed, Knock Off, and Spikes, wearing down Iron Treads's switch-ins and allowing for a free Stone Edge moveslot.
