"Is it just me or is your nose square? the fans will hate it, you butt-ugly bear"

[Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts is going to come out very soon on November 10th. It's been 8 long years since we've last had banjo on a consule and he's finally back!

If you didn't already know, N&B is very different from previous games. It's designed around being a platformer, but it takes a very odd twist. There's an implementation of vehicles to everything which is mixed into the old style of platforming.

If you have an Xbox live Gold account, get on your 360 now and download the free Demo. I've played it myself and the game is pretty awesome (although this might be the nostalgic overflow considering I'm a huge banjo fan).

OP
I'm sure I'm not the only one anticpating this game. :)

After a near decade of waiting for Banjo-threeie, we finally have something firm to grasp on to. Rare announced the game a while ago with a teaser trailer, but something increadable happened today. WE GOT SCREENSHOTS. There might only be three, but the shear sight of these is really something.

Sorry about how big they are.

The first two seem to be from some sort of Mumbo-related industrial level. Not so sure about the third one, maybe the overworld?

I hope we get a few more to come!

Ah, I'm a little out of date right now. Rare is with Microsoft now, right? I need to get a 360... I enjoyed the BKs, but that was a long time ago... I wonder if they'll still be fun. Do you think that Rare will have lost money waiting so long?

Rare is fully owned by Microsoft. Rare has made a couple of games since Nintendo sold their shares. They made Conker: Live and Reloaded (remake of N64 Conker's Bad Fur Day) and Grabbed by the Ghoulies for the Xbox. They then made Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360 launch. After that they completed Viva Pinata a year or two ago. Banjo Kazooie 3 and Viva Pinata: Party 2 are for 2008. They've also made some DS and GBA games in that time as Microsoft doesn't mind them making games for Nintendo handhelds.

Damn, I don't have a 360, only a Wii. I'll get my friend to pick it up when it comes out (if he has a 360 by then).

Banjo-Kazooie was my favourite game when I was younger, but I don't have a 360 and don't plan on getting one. Thats quite sad because I'd really like to play this game ;_;

I thought Microsoft has bought the rights to first option on Rare games and that they do not fully own them, so they can still work on previous agreements with other companies... example with Ninty with DK?

Well, they can remake older games they made with nintendo previously (they remade all the DKC games for the GBA and Diddy kong Racing) so something like Donkey kong 64 DS is possible, but they can't make new games with nintendo (No Diddy kong Pilot for you =( ).

Edit: Oh, Rare can still make new games for the GBA/DS though. They just have to use THQ as there publisher.

Oh geeze that 3rd pic looks incredible. Reminds me of the old games........ I wonder what Kazooie is holding though? Maybe that has something to do with the new play mechanics?

No. Nintendo sold its shares in Rare. They own 0% of Rare. Microsoft either has a majority stake in the company or maybe even 100%. I forget the full details. Rare is a part of Microsoft Game Studios. Rare hasn't worked on a Donkey Kong game since Donkey Kong 64. The only DK related stuff they've done is the GBA ports of DKC 1 - 3 and the Diddy Kong Racing port to DS. Other than that, since being bought out by Microsoft, they've made Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (GBA), Sabre Wulf (GBA) and It's Mr. Pants (GBA). The only Nintendo project they're currently working on is Viva Pinata for the DS.

Just as a matter of interest, It's Mr. Pants was originally a DK puzzle game called Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers. Banjo Pilot was also supposed to be Diddy Kong Pilot.

Grunty's Revenge was pretty forgettable. I can't believe they don't split up in BK3, though. That was a cool mechanic of Tooie.

That design was totally hinted at in the Christmas card. She was only shown from the neck down with her head in the fireplace.

Last pic looks like Jolly on the left and that rhino from Witchyworld on the right...anybody else remember them from Banjo-Tooie?

I love the nerds at The Rare Witch Project
Title: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
  • Slated for a November release
  • You create vehicles with parts you find around the levels.
  • There will be 1,600 parts including weapons that you'll be able to attach to the vehicles.
  • The town is called Showdown Town.
  • Despite the large focus on vehicles it still features platform elements from the previous games like traditional platforming, tight rope walking and jiggy piece collecting.
  • Showdown Town is 16 times larger than anything Rare has created before.
  • Every level has a different intro. Nutty Acres begins with a credits spoof of 80's soap operas like Dallas.
  • Note collecting is back and will act has currency that'll allow you to buy vehicle blueprints.
  • Rare says there are 15 different challenges spread across 6 different levels. There will also be side missions.
  • Building vehicles is basically like playing with Lego. You can always jump in and out of the vehicle editor and come right back to the game with the new design.
  • Parts are easily placed and moved around. You don't have to worry about connecting the motor with the wheels for example. Just place everything so they stick together and don't get in the way.
  • Vehicle designs can play a large role in missions.
  • Physics are awesome in this game and everywhere!
  • Pixel art
  • Multiplayer is great fun with the ability to either chose from pre-fabricated or own vehicle designs.
WOW. So Its "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts". Looks like an odd twist from what we expected. Hope they don't screw it up! (they better not!)

I like how alot of the games Rare is making now were originally supposed to be on nintendo systems (hi kameo)

Kameo was a good game, but because of how long I was waiting for it (years and years and years), when I finally got it, it wasn't that great =[

Banjo Kazooie meets bad lego ripoff?
Mumbo's nuts?
humba wumba became a cowgirl?

i'm sorry but the original two will be the best and nothing will ever overtake them.

and yeah microsoft has full rights to certain characters (i.e. banjo and conker) and can do what they want with them. so they can butcher the series as much as they want :x
