ORAS UU Is sunny day viable?! A solar powered HO team

Hi RMT community I have been experimenting with a sunny day team and it does decent up to 1500 ish. But I am kind of stuck and cannot see any way to improve the team further so if you have suggestions help a guy out :). But anyway here is the team.

houndoom-mega.gif

Houndoom @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch
- Nasty Plot

So first off I really like doom lately. It is a great wall breaker who can punch in unprepared teams. Nasty plot to break stuff like florges. fireblast and dark pulse for powerfull stab. And finally I decided to run sucker punch to pick off weakened faster threats like Beedril, Mega aero, darmanitan.

whimsicott.gif

Whimsicott @ Heat Rock
Ability: Prankster
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sunny Day
- U-turn
- Moonblast
- Giga Drain

Whimi blanket checks a bunch of stuff like Krookodile, swampert that most of my team hate. Whimi Sets up the sun and gets out the way so the rest of the team can do damage. Giga drain and moonblast are stab. And U-turn to keep momentum up. I am running random mixed defences if someone knows the most optimal set I am all ears.

heliolisk.gif

Heliolisk @ Choice Specs
Ability: Solar Power
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hyper Voice
- Focus Blast

Heliolisk is pretty common in the meta atm. I decided to run specs for max wall breaking powa. The set is pretty standard I think. Volt switch to keep up momentum. Thunderbolt for more damage. Hyper voice for stab. And finally I decided to run Focus blast over grass knot because fat normal mons are a problem for the team I'm looking at you snorlax.

entei.gif

Entei @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Solar Beam
- Stone Edge

Running sun I thought Entei would do well in it. And I was right. The normal Choice band set does not cut it but Life orb does really well. Entei is usually my early game wall breaker. Sacred fire to burn everything. Extreme speed cause priority is great. Stone edge to hit flyers and mainly chandelure. And finally because I am running Sun Solarbeam is really cool wrecking bulky waters who think to wall you.

aerodactyl.gif

Aerodactyl @ Heat Rock
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sunny Day
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Taunt

I needed rocks so I decided to run the fastest rock setter in the tier. I run a bulky fast build with taunt. My only attack is Stone edge to beat the magic bounce abusers 1v1. Aero can get up sunny day very reliably and gives the rest of the team power to wall break.

doublade.gif

Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Sacred Sword
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance

Sadly enough this team get DESTROYED by the ever common mega aerodactyl beating al 5 previous members. So I added doublade who can checks it reliably. If aero is in the team preview which it often is. Play doublade very conservatively. Rather sack something than letting mega aero waken it so it can take a EQ and kill with iron head mid/late game. I think this set is super standard and doesn't need elaberation. Iron head for stab. Shadow sneak to revenge kill. Secret sword to hit steels/rock types. And sword dance to hit super hard.

Any suggestions to get the team better are appreciated and thanks for reading

I always like the idea of trying to make certain weather viable in the lower tiers where it is banned (i.e. Sun and Rain). Anyways, onto the rate!
  • I feel like having only one Sun setter that is viable doesn't make this the "dedicated" Sun team you want it to be. My suggestion is running Cresselia > Aerodactyl as this gives you a bulky Sun setter whose form of recovery (Moonlight) is actually boosted under the sun, making it even more reliable to set up Sun throughout the match. Cresselia also provides Lunar Dance support which can be nice once it is worn down to provide a second chance for mons like Heliolisk and Mega Houndoom that may have been worn down.
Cresselia @ Heat Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sunny Day
- Moonlight
- Psychic
- Moonblast / Lunar Dance
  • The EV spread on Whimsicott is slightly under achieving of what Whimsicott should do which is take advantage of its nice base 116 Speed tier and Prankster. I suggest 248 HP / 132 Def / 128 Spe with a Timid nature > current spread as this allows Whimsicott to outspeed Hydreigon and Salamence and wear them down with Moonblast as you have 0 switchins to their powerful attacks bar Whimsicott itself.
  • Since you have a problem with Mega Aerodactyl, and I got rid of your rocks with Cresselia > Aerodactyl, might I suggest running Mamoswine > Doublade as I feel Doublade doesn't appreciate its Fire weakness being exacerbated thanks to the Sun. Mamoswine still gives you an answer to Mega Aerodactyl while also providing the entry hazard support you need.
Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
  • Next up, I suggest running Flame Charge / Taunt > Sucker Punch on Mega Houndoom as Sucker Punch with no investment and a negative nature is doing pitiful damage. Flame Charge allows Mega Houndoom to outspeed faster things such as Mega Aerodactyl (which the team has a problem with) and it allows it to avoid being revenge killed by anything but priority whereas Taunt provides Mega Houndoom with a way to break stall and avoid being T-Waved by shit like Blissey.
Other than that, I like the team and it looks like a solid Sun team :)

Thanks for the rate man! But in your first point you say I only have 1 sun setter. But I have 2 :) aero and whimsicott. The team originally had cress as a sun setter but mega aero could just use it as A opportunity to set up hone claws :(. Further mamo does 60-70% vs aero with shard who can Ohko in return with aqua tail. Or just wither down mamo with LO by just switching out. The flame charge set on Doom hasen't worked for me yet cause the set up is not reliable and it's so frail under the sun especially with solar power. But maybe I should switch out doublade for defence cress mono attack psyschock with twave that might actually work. Thanks for the advice man! Had already given up on this team.
