Item for a Heracross

I'm running a pretty standard Heracross on my team, I've been doing that since late GSC so I wasn't exactly late to the party.

That said in Advance I just used it to absorb the ever-prevalent Toxic (which I barely see in DP, is it because of the stronger special pokes?) and then sweep. I never liked Choice Bands, but now I use them, but I'm not particularly fond of giving away Heracross' type coverage like that.

Which leaves me with the Orb items. I did a bit of testing between Flame Orb and Toxic Orb and really could not figure out if there was a damage difference. Does burn cut Guts Heracross' attack or not, I've asked several people and haven't got a decisive answer yet.

ATM I'm running Toxic Orb to be on the safe side, but it klls you really, really fast, so would Life Orb be a better option?

That said if Flame Orb is just as effective as Toxic Orb then fire is most likely the best way to go.

On thing that does bother me though is the one turn delay, the two status orbs don't kick in until turn 2, and when unboosted in speed and attack that can result in taking a nasty hit, Life Orb on the other hand is ready from move one to start killing.

So what are everyone's opinions on which item is best for Heracross?

Moving along between Flame and Life Orb which is better for an opener and which is better for attempting to switch in against a NVE attack.

I'm thinking that one turn of weak(er) attacks is worth the more turns of stronger attack, but obviously this thread is for trying to get a few opinions on that so if you have one please fire away.

I opened with SD Heracross in advance and it worked really, really well. OHKOing Forretress and the rare Steelix with EQ is fun. But with this new method of gaining attack boosts is it best to not open with Heracross and try to switch it in or still open with it and wait for the attack boost (much the same as a single SD I guess).

I guess the other perk of Life Orb is that if you can absorb status, while you might start to die really fast (but what doesn't) you'll have a 1.95 multiplier on your damage.
 
Hey TSP!

I personally use a flame orb with protect. So first move i protect which allows me to get the status free and also scout some of my opponents moves/pokemon.

I haven't really considered the life orb idea of switching into a toxic/WoW. I think it depends on how well you can predict and the prevalence of these moves.

From what I've seen WoW is mainly Dusknoir, and Toxic is pretty much just Skarm.

As for protect, losing the ability to hit ghosts effectively is a huge setback with widespread Dusknoir usage.

I might run Life Orb for a bit and see how it goes.

EDIT;
I did a bit of field testing and I can say that absorbing Toxic @ Life Orb is very, very effective. There isn't much it can OHKO and I cleaned up 3 pokes before Mach Punch crashed my party.

Also I learned something else interesting, using EQ over Stone Edge means that an Enemy Heracross resists ALL of your attacks. That said resisted Megahorn only does marginally less than neutral Stone Edge.
