It's a trap! [Balanced Pinsir Team ft. Gothitelle]

Ok, so I made this team in order to utilize the ridiculous power that is mega Pinsir. Pinsir has very few things that wall it, the main one in OU being Skarmory. Some other things that Pinsir doesn't like include Mandibuzz, Zapdos, and Rotom-W. I set out to determine how I could take care of these things to allow Pinsir the sweep. I thought of trapping, and originally used Magnezone. This worked, but only for Skarm. I then decided to use Gothitelle, which allowed me to take care of the threats. I then fleshed out the rest of the team, providing hazard removal, a special and defensive wall, and two other attackers to assist pinsir in his sweep attempt.

Let's get to the team.

First, we will start with the star of the team, Mega Pinsir.

Mega_Pinsir.png

Pinsir (M) @ Pinsirite
Ability: Mold Breaker
Happiness: 0
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Swords Dance
- Frustration
- Earthquake
- Quick Attack

Can't really say much about this set, as it is the standard. Went with mold breaker for before the mega evo, just for the chance to catch Rotom on the switch in. I might change it to hyper cutter for lando-t. Really straight forward here, set up an SD and sweep. Comes in late game, tanks one hit to set up, and gg.

Next, we will get into the walls that sponge up hits.

blissey.jpg

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Stealth Rock / Shadow Ball
- Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled

The 4th gen terror is back again. I would use chansey, but knock off is so damn prevalent. Blissey has done its job so well, taking on every special attacker that wants to come at it. It is very enjoyable when you take out the other team's physical sweepers and just wall the rest of the squad with blissey. Another standard set, and blissey also sets up rocks for me. I slashed in shadow ball, since without it, it can't really touch gengar, which my team can struggle with, especially if it has thunderbolt. Open for suggestions for this spot, I was thinking sylveon in order to pass wishes, but that just makes me weaker to Gengar.

Next, the physical wall.

Mandibuzz (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Atk / 168 Def / 92 Spd
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Knock Off
- Foul Play

Went with the full defensive set. This is my check/counter to the physical threats, as well as gengar sans thunderbolt, and aegislash sans flash cannon. Mandibuzz is the remover of hazards, which really put a thorn in the side of Pinsir. I run foul play and knock off, since both are useful. I find that taunt is useless, as mandibuzz is too slow to really stop anything from setting up. Anything that attempts to set up gets hit hard by foul play. Mandibuzz is also my main check to talonflame, which this team struggles with.

Now, into the two other attackers on the team.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Here we have scarfed lando. This thing can surprise a lot of people, as a lot of people don't expect it to be scarfed. I often lead with this if I see Greninja, and can score a quick KO with u-turn or EQ. This is also my secondary check to talonflame, and the intimidate is always helpful. I would be open to changing this in order to patch up some other weaknesses on my squad, but lando has proven very useful.

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Ice] / Thunderbolt

Gengar. Still a threat in this generation, especially behind a sub. With the influx of fairies, a poison type is crucial. A fairly standard set, with HP ice and thunderbolt slashed. HP Ice is nice to catch various things off guard, removing some dragons and Gliscor, but thunderbolt is useful for getting rid of Mandibuzz. The gameplan is simple, switch in, set up a sub, and carry out with as much pain as you can cause.

Finally, we get to the second star of the team, the trapper.

Gochiruzeru_by_Xous54.png

Gothitelle @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 152 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 100 Spd
Timid Nature
- Trick
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunderbolt

It's a trap. The standard set, timid to outspeed any wall, and max special attack to hit hard. Trick is there if i come across a wall that I can't kill before it kills me, or to cripple a sweeper that isn't able to OHKO gothitelle (It is surprisingly bulky). The attacks are standard, psychic for STAB, thunderbolt for skarmory / mandibuzz, HP Fire for steels. This spot used to be occupied by magnezone, but gothitelle gets the job done.

Anyway, this team has served me well on the ladder, getting me to around 1700. I have had a tough time getting higher than that, but that just may be because I am not the greatest player. Anyway, the team has a few threats that it struggles with: Azumarill, Mega Mawile, any strong Fairy attacker really. I am open for suggestions to fix these issues. Mega Venusaur would help with most of them, but sadly you cant have two megas yet.

Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading!

Hey bro, pretty solid team, but could be better, it has small errors, for example in Gengar, on your HP ice has 0 IV's in atk, so its power its lower, change it to 2 atk for make the base 60, and the other is the set of Mandibuzz with Knock Off dont run well, Change that to Taunt, That Move help you in many occasions and put the item "rocky helmet", here I give the set of pokemon , and sorry for mistakes , English isn't my native languaje.

Bitch (Mandibuzz) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 168 Def / 248 HP / 92 Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Foul Play
- Taunt
- Defog

And forgot a thing , change the 4 hp on Pinsir , this makes stealth rocks will remove 50% of your HP, however without these will remove 49% , and put the 4 in Defense or SpDefense , good luck on your team :)

Any hidden power is base 60 this gen, they changed the mechanics. Also, what exactly would taunt help me beat, barring mega gyara, which gets two boosts up against me anyway before i can taunt? I will add the speed since i believe that outspeeds azumarill. Thanks for the rate!

and i'll fix the EVs on pinsir for sure.

Hi,

This team has quite a few issues with Water-types, namely Keldeo on its own or Bisharp + Greninja, since Bisharp can Pursuit trap Blissey till the cows come home. With Blissey gone, a standard Keldeo or Greninja can spam Hydro pump and win, as you have nothing that can switch into those moves. Furthermore, you have just about nothing for Dragon-types. You sorta have Charizard X covered with Landorus-T in the back, but Pokemon like Garchomp and Latios seem kind of annoying for this team to face. A simple change to make would be to use Ferrothorn over Blissey. Blissey isn't very effective in this meta, where it is largely outclassed by Chansey thanks to Eviolite. Ferrothorn does a few things for the team. First, it gives you a solid switch in to Water attacks. Now you might think "but Keldeo has Secret Sword to hit me with, isn't that an issue?" While that may be true, it locking itself into Secret Sword means you can trap it with Gothitell and take it out of the picture. Meanwhile, Ferrothorn also provides a solid switch-in to other Dragon-types such as Dragonite, Garchomp, and Lati@s. It also gives you somewhat of an answer to Gengar, which you said is an annoying Pokemon for you to face.

Anyway, I hope I was able to help. Good luck with the team!

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock

thanks for the suggestion, i'll definitely try it out. do you think my own keldeo would be a decent substitution for gengar? it would get rid of the bisharp problem a little. i may try chansey instead since with ferro i have 0 switch ins to heatran
