It's Green! It's Giant! It's Megasaur! XY OU defensive team.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to view this. I believe a good defense makes a strong offense so i focused on having a good defensive core. I went through several pokemon and spent about a week and a half testing until i came unto this group of six. Out of the last 25 (good) matches i won 17 and i'm feeling confident with this team. Here they are:

images

GreenGiant(Venusaur) @ Venusaurite
Bold, Overgrow --> Thick Fat
252 hp, 252def, 4 Sp.d
-Sludge Bomb
-Giga Drain
-Roar
-Synthesis

Venusaur was always my favorite grass starter, but that's not why i use it. I use venusaur because it's great at taking hits. Venusaur's role is to absorb hits from physically offensive pokemon, soak up incoming spores, and roar things out to keep the enemy weary of trying to switch in a threatening poke on it.

Karl (Heatran) @ Leftovers
Calm, Flame Body
252 hp, 252 Sp.D, 4 Def
-Earth Power
-Lava Plume
-Roar
-Protect

Good ol Venutran. Heatran has great synergy with Venusaur. Being able to switch in on each other's weaknesses and roaring out each other's checks. Heatran also serves as my counter to Talonflame. I also use Heatran to scout what the opponent might do.

Play With Me (Azumarill) @ Choice Band
Adamant, Huge Power
252 hp, 252 atk, 4 def
-Aqua Jet
-Play Rough
-Superpower
-Ice Punch

The first few drafts of the team had a massive weakness to Fighting and lacked priority and water coverage. Azumarill was the perfect solution! Azumarill is used as a mid-late game sweeper putting out pokemon out of their beingroaredintostealthrocksrepeatedly misery.

Nuisance (skarmory) @ Rocky Helmet
Impish, Sturdy
252 hp, 252 def, 4 Sp.D
-Stealth Rock
-Whirlwind
-Defog
-Roost

Skarmory is my lead most of the time. I figured if im going to switch into physical hitters often wynaut use rocky helmet? I take little damage, they hurt themselves, i roost away what i took. However with this set taunt screws me over. I'm considering replacing EP on Heatran for Stealth Rocks and give Skarmory Brave Bird instead of Stealth Rocks.

Your Savior (Landorus-Therian) @ Leftovers
Jolly, Intimidate
252 atk, 252 spe, 4 hp
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-U-turn
-Swords Dance

I noticed my team was generally slow and lacked another hard hitting mon outside of Azumarill. Ladorus was my choice. It hits hard and has a relatively fast u-turn.

Crooked Nurse (Chansey) @ Eviolite
Bold, Natural Cure
252 hp, 252 def, 4 Sp.D
-Seismic Toss
-Softboiled
-Toxic
-Heal Bell

Chansey is my cleric healing status throughout the team. I gave chansey toxic so that it can wear down enemy pokes except steel/poison types of course. I also needed 1 more wall and chansey is just that, a wall. A pain in the ass one at that.

One cool thing i noticed is how that i either have more resistances than weaknesses or equal weaknesses and resistances to all the individual types. So that's the team. Open to any and all suggestions (that are helpful) :-)

Hey Red vs Blue

This is a pretty solid defensive team, I just have a few tips that can help improve it. First, I would change Earth Power to Stealth Rock on Heatran and then Stealth Rock to Spikes on Skarmory. Spikes is extremely helpful to your team since you have three phazers in Venusaur, Heatran, and Skarmory so your opponent is going to be switching a lot and the entry hazard damage really racks up. Entry hazards are going to account for a large portion of your damage as a defensive team and help weaken up your opponent for Azumarill. Speaking of Azumarill, I would swap out Choice Band for Assault Vest. I don't think CB is a very effective item for Azumarill in XY and Assault Vest lets him change attacks while being pretty tanky. You may also want to try out Belly Drum Azumarill who gives your team a solid win condition and can sweep easily with SR+Spikes support. Lastly, I would use Knock Off instead of Swords Dance on Landorus-T. Knock Off works well for your team as it removes Leftovers so you can more easily stall out your opponents and also remove Life Orb/Choice items from dangerous wallbreakers, severely limiting their damage output. Swords Dance really only works well on Double Dance Landorus-T and doesn't really fit well with the U-turn and momentum creating that you will do with Lando.

Hope I helped and good luck with your team

This looks like a really good team, but as always, changes can be made. First of, you do not need roar on two Pokemon (Venusaur and Heatran). You have noticed that your Skarmory is Taunt bait, so I would advise switching SR to Brave Bird and taking Roar away from Heatran and giving it Stealth Rocks. I know you want to get rid of Earth Power on Heatran, but 1. you cannot touch other Heatrans, and 2. people would expect Heatran to carry Roar, but not on Megasaur, giving you the element of surprise. Another thing I would recommend you to change is taking either Toxic or Seismec Toss away from Chansey and giving her Wish to wish pass to other pokes, such as Azumarill and Lando, because they have no form of recovery out side of Lefties. And like Nova said, switch CB to Assault Vest to take more special hits. Other than that, your team looks solid. Good luck!

First- I agree with Fr33dom: Roar-ing out counters is plain ineffective...because Roar has negative priority and allows counters to get hits in.

Second- Replace Roar on Venusaur with Earthquake/Leech Seed/HP Fire. Any of those would be loads better.

Third- Heatran's set could use improvement. I highly recommend getting rid of Roar and replacing it with Flash Cannon. It's a damn shame not to use Heatran's 2nd STAB, especially for Togekiss (which destroys Venusaur despite the Poison advantage). Also replace Flame Body with Flash Fire. Heatran has no recovery, so Flame Body really isn't very effective, and Flash Fire not only grants Heatran an immunity but also allows for a nice switch-in (especially for Skarmory, who is weak to fire).

Fourth- I'm not really sure why you're running Stealth Rock and Defog on Skarmory. Either get rid of Defog or Stealth Rock and replace it with Iron Head/Brave Bird.

Fifth- Mega Pinsir wrecks your team if you can't get rocks up (and Mega Pinsir teams usually run a Taunt Deoxys or something to prevent SR). Venusaur is destroyed by Quick Attack/Return, Heatran is obliterated by EQ, Azumarill and Chansey can't survive Return, and Skamory can't deal damage without SR. Even Landorus can't really hard counter it since Pinsir outspeeds and KO's with Return, despite running Stone Edge. An easy solution is the one above: run Brave Bird on Skarmory.

Sixth- Try running a fast bulky set on Landorus (252 HP, 252 Spd, 4 SpD). It appreciates the increased number of chances to boost more than the Attack EV's.
