The sands of time were not enough to deter Tyranitar's presence off of OU. Although niche, it's unique defensive typing, access to the combination of Stealth Rock and Knock Off, and an amazing ability in Sand Stream stations it as a crucial defensive piece for the sand teams it enables. It's typing lets it check Ghost-types that lack access to Fighting-type coverage moves, like Pechurant and Dragapult. Tyranitar is a decent hazard setter thanks to its combination with Knock Off, allowing it to greatly hamper Pokémon like Zapdos, and especially, Moltres, who negate their vulnerability to hazards with Heavy Duty Boots. Knock Off also slices down into the longevity of Pokémon like Kingambit, Great Tusk, and Zamazenta, who depend on Leftovers as their primary source of recovery. Ice Beam punishes the Ground-types supereffecitvely, like Great Tusk, Landorus T, and Gliscor, to discourage them from continuously switching in. On top of phazing set up Pokémon and ranking up residual damage, Dragon Tail hits the many Dragon-types supereffectively. Roar is a good alternative that allows Tyranitar to phase Pokémon that hide behind a subsitute when setting up, like Iron Moth and Kyurem. Leftovers ensures it can remain healthy enough over the course of a match, while Smooth Rock enables sand sweepers further. 16 Defense EVs lets it to live Great Tusk's Headlong Rush from full HP, while the rest is invested in its Special Defense to maximize its hit taking ability. Tera Flying grants it immunity to Ground-type and resistance to Fighting-type moves, while Tera Ghost grants it immunity to Fighting-type moves. Both provide a resistance to U-turn, and the latter lets it block Rapid Spin.
Excadrill, Tyranitar's generational partner, once again appears as an amazing teammate. In sand, it becomes a fearsome sweeper, greatly threatening the likes of Iron Valiant and Enamorus that force Tyranitar out, while cleaning opposing teams weakened by its sand chip damage, hazards, and repeated Knock Offs. Tyranitar's ability to fend off Flying-types, like Moltres and Zapdos, is incredibly invaluable for Excadrill. Offensive wallbreakers like Ogerpon-W and Hydrapple also appreciate opposing teams being constantly harrassed by Tyranitar's onslought of chip damage. In return, both break through Water-types, like Alomomola, Dondozo, Samurott-H, and Primarina. While the former of the two Grass-types its able to check the aformentioned Pokémon offensively, the latter is a particularly excellent partner. Its typing, in conjunction with Regenerator, allows it to serve as a longterm pivot and check to Water-types, except Primarina, with the ability to heal off sand's chip damage. Galarian Slowking is able to switch in and threaten all of the previously mentioned Fairy-types, while providing momentum for the rest of Tyranitar's teammates. Flying-types like Moltres and Corviknight is also an incredibly partner, switching in on physically offensive threats like Great Tusk, Zamazenta, Rillaboom, and Iron Valiant. Tyranitar finds itself easily chipped by opposing hazards, so it appreciate's Pokémon like the Excadrill and Corviknight that can get rid of them.
