Ivysaur is a very threatening sweeper and wallbreaker in sun. Thanks to its great Eviolite-boosted bulk, Toxic immunity, and resistances for common attackers such as Thwackey and Sawk, it can easily find opportunities to set up with Growth in sun. The listed attacks perfectly cover the whole metagame, with Weather Ball hitting Pokemon the likes of Alolan Sandslash, Skuntank, and Frosmoth that can take on Ivysaur's STAB moves. Chlorophyll with a Timid nature lets Ivysaur outspeed prominent Choice Scarf users like Rotom, Sawk, and Silvally in sun.

Ivysaur only fits on dedicated sun teams, so staples of this archetype make for great partners. For example Uxie and Liepard are two amazing sun setters. Other Chlorophyll users such as Shiftry, Leafeon, and Exeggutor appreciate Ivysaur weakening their common checks like Fire-types and Altaria, as well as beating Poison-types like Skuntank and Silvally-Poison thanks to Weather Ball, in order for them to clean late-game. Fire-types like Ninetales and Rapidash also enjoy sun support and help Ivysaur and the other Chlorophyll users with opposing Fire-types.

Giga Drain is an alternative Grass-type STAB move that can be used when sun isn't up. It also provides recovery, making Ivysaur harder to revenge kill with the likes of Sawk and Rotom. However, Ivysaur shouldn't be used when sun isn't up and the lack of power is pretty significant, missing some crucial OHKOs after a Growth such as Kangaskhan and Silvally. Sleep Powder can take advantage of a check, but standard Ivysaur can't fit it. Ivysaur can also run an utility set with a 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe EV spread and a Bold nature, which can check common threats including Rhydon, Sawk, and Tangela.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types like defensive Rapidash and Ninetales avoid the OHKO from +2 Sludge Bomb and can OHKO Ivysaur back with their powerful STAB moves.

**Faster Choice Scarf and Priority Users**: Even with Chlorophyll, Ivysaur gets outsped by common Choice Scarf users like Manectric, which can revenge kill it with Overheat. Powerful priority users likes Kangaskhan and Shiftry can take out a weakened Ivysaur.

**Hakamo-o**: Hakamo-o resists Solar Beam and is immune to both Sludge Bomb and Weather Ball thanks to Bulletproof. It can use Ivysaur as setup fodder or phaze it.

Weather Ball in sun in conjonction with Ivysaur STAB moves provides it perfect coverage on the whole metagame. Energy Ball can serve as an alternative Grass STAB move that can be used when sun isn't up. (Giga Drain is a much better option than Energy Ball since it lets you play into your good defensive attributes and become much harder to revenge kill lategame even after sun has gone away since conventional revenge killers like Scarf Sawk or Rotom require Ivysaur to be heavily chipped into range.) (Even if Energy Ball has one or two more KOs in comparison, I'd go as far as to say it isn't worth using over Solar Beam or Giga Drain anyway.) However, Ivysaur isn't meant to be used when sun isn't up and the lack of power is pretty significative significant, missing some important OHKO after a Growth such as Kangaskhan and Silvally.(rework this accordingly) Sleep Powder can be used to take advantage of a check but Ivysaur can afford to lose neither coverage nor Growth.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types like Centiskorch, Defensive Rapidash, and Ninetales avoid the OHKO from +2 Sludge Bomb and can OHKO Ivysaur back with their powerful STAB moves.

**Altaria**: Altaria avoids the 2HKO from Sludge Bomb and can 2HKO Ivysaur. It is however noteworthy than Altaria can struggle to take out Ivysaur if sun is up due to the accuracy nerf from Hurricane.

(Don't think Altaria is really worth listing separately, Sludge Bomb can easily end up overwhelming you since Hurricane is literally a 50/50 to hit and even if it does, it only does like 60% if you maintain evio. If Ivysaur sets up Growth on the turn Altaria comes in and even just sets up a second Growth in its face for instance, you just KO it after little previous chip. +4 252 SpA Ivysaur Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Altaria: 306-360 (86.4 - 101.6%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO)

**Faster Choice Scarf and priority users**: Even with Chlorophyll, Ivysaur gets outsped by common Choice Scarf users like Manectric and Cinccino, that can revenge kill it with Overheat and Tail Slap respectively. (Idt Scarf Cinccino is especially relevant post rain ban personally but I'm not too opposed either way. Mention Ivysaur needs to be chipped before Tail Slap will revenge kill it if you think its still worth mentioning) Priority users likes Kangaskhan and Shiftry can take out a weakened Ivysaur with their powerful priority moves.

**Paralysis and Sleep**: Mention how Ivysaur really needs the speed and can cripple its sweeping attempts should it get paralyzed. Users like Uxie, Qwilfish, and Liepard can tamper with it. Could also mention something about Yawn Uxie/Stunfisk since it prevents Ivysaur from sweeping (unless it wants to get slept) and gives the opponent some time to send out something like altaria.
