After getting bored with all my current teams I decided to make a Johto based squad to add some flavor to my roster. Normally I avoid using OU pokemon as much as possible to keep things fresh, but this team is an exception. While I was filling out the team I decided to go a different route from normal and made it more of a stall team. So here are the six I chose for this project...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smeargle @ Choice Scarf
Jolly
Own Tempo
6 hp/ 252 atk / 252 spe
Trick
Spore
Destiny Bond
U-Turn
I like this Smeargle because people are always expecting the Baton Passing version. Trick, Spore, or U-Turn according to the situation and use that Destiny Bond if you run into something you can't handle. I chose DBond over Explosion because it gets rid of sweepers behind substitutes that can really hurt my team. Trick is also a nice move especially on support pokemon that need access to their full moveset to be of use. This guy can be a real life saver in clutch situations.
Forretress @ Leftovers
Relaxed
Sturdy
252 hp / 112 atk / 144 def
Toxic Spikes
Rapid Spin
Spikes
Explosion
Forretress is my spiker and if he dies before setting up I'm most likely going to lose. My team lacks that true finishing sweeper so without that Toxic and Spikes damage I can't finish off my opponent. I had the choice of Gyro Ball, Earthquake, and Explosion but I just like burst damage too much to go the safe route. Forre's a beast physical wall too so he's a nice complement to my Blissey.
Blissey @ Leftovers
Bold
Natural Cure
252 hp / 252 def / 6 sp.d
Stealth Rock
Counter
Softboiled
Seismic Toss
I needed a special wall and Blissey is "the" special wall. I went with a CounterBliss because I like to have options. Sometimes you really need to take out a Pokemon in one shot, but you don't have anything that can hit it hard enough. CounterBliss can do that...sometimes. I gave Blissey Stealth Rock over TWave so keep the entry hazard damage possibilities high. Plus with Toxic Spikes TWave really only hits flyers and such anyway.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Bold (30 sp.a IVs)
Natural Cure
158 hp / 100 def / 176 spe / 76 sp.d
Calm Mind
Psychic
Recover
Grass Knot
This is my Celebi and I love this thing. I used to hate Celebi with a passion and then I got one of my own. The 176 speed EVs make this thing faster than Adamant Lucario which is nice on occasion. The moveset is pretty vanilla. Calm Mind up when I can, Recover when necessary, and Psychic/Grass Knot things to death. Celebi, Blissey, and Forre can take some hit plus it gives me two Natural Cure pokes which is very useful. Celebi covers Blissey pretty well too which is an added bonus.
Dragonite @ Life Orb
Rash
Inner Focus
112 atk / 200 spe / 196 sp.a
Superpower
Draco Meteor
Flamethrower
Thunderbolt
These last two pokemon are where I lose confidence in this team. I didn't know where to go especially with the Johto theme so I chose something I liked witha mix set. MixNite provides me with some pop from both the physical and special sides which is what I wanted I guess. Superpower and Draco Meteor do some beastly damage with Life Orb which gives me some sorely needed KO power. Flamethrower and Thunderbolt are there for coverage, but I really don't know about this guy. He's essentially a place filler.
Feraligatr @ Life Orb
Adamant
Torrent
28 hp / 252 atk / 228 spe
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Ice Punch
Earthquake
If I'm a Johto trainer I need a starter pokemon, so here's my starter. Typhlosion and Meganium didn't seem to fit especially when I needed something that could MAYBE do a little sweeping. I've had little success with Dragonite and Feraligatr, but they do normally take down something with them which is good. I try to send this guy out when things are asleep, paralyzed, or afraid of him and go for a DD. Seriously these last two Pokemon are just there because I needed something to use.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel like I have a decent start to a team, but I don't know how to finish it especially with the Johto only theme. Any ideas?
