Electric Fennec ~

Overview
########

  • Excellent speed and good special attack lets it act as a solid Revenge Killer and Special Sweeper
  • Can easily gain momentum with Volt Switch against common offensive pokemons
  • Lots of competition from other electric types. Raikou has better bulk and access to Calm Mind and Heliolisk that has a bigger movepool but its Speed and Volt Absorb give it small niche.
  • Not many offensive options outside of STAB moves and Hidden Power
  • Frail and without useful resistances so it is hard to switch in

Special Attacker
########
name: Special Attacker
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Hidden Power Grass / Hidden Power Ice
move 4: Shadow Ball
ability: Volt Absorb
item: Choice Specs
evs: 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
nature: Timid

Moves
========

  • Volt Switch is the most important move on the set as it lets Jolteon capitalize on the switches it forces against common offensive Pokemon like Starmie
  • Thunderbolt is a stronger STAB that is very useful late game and against bulkier pokemons OHKOing Blastoise after Stealth Rock
  • Hidden Power Grass nails common switch ins like Swampert, Hippowdon, and Rhyperior pretty hard OHKOing the former after Rocks and 2HKOing the latter if physically defensive.
  • Hidden Power Ice is another good option to always 2HKO Nidoqueen and Nidoking and to OHKO Flygon while still having the 2HKO on physically defensive Hippowdon.
  • Shadow Ball is the best option for the last slot as it has a shot at 2HKOing Mew after Stealth Rock. And is also the strongest option against Trevenant.
  • Signal Beam is usable too as it destroys Celebi and hits Hydreigon harder than any other move and that is particularly useful if running Hidden Power Grass

Set Details
========

  • Max Special attack and Speed with a Timid Nature are used to let Jolteon hit as hard as possible while tying with Crobat and Aerodactyl before it Mega Evolves.
  • Choice Specs is the preferred item as without it it misses all the important OHKOes and 2HKOes mentioned above
  • Life Orb is an inferior option as Jolteon will switch in and out a lot taking full hazards damage.
  • Expert Belt has even more power problems but it might be useful to lure Swampert
  • Volt Absorb is the best ability as Jolteon is fast enough without Quick Feet and an immunity and a possible free switch in is always nice

Usage Tips
========
  • Volt Switch is the best move to go for most of the time if the opponent doesn't have a ground type as it is likely to give you useful momentum and all other moves Jolteon can lock into are pretty weak or easily exploitable by a smart opponent.
  • Thunderbolt is more useful late game and to kill bulkier pokemon. You should never use it if the opponent has a Ground type because it will cause you a big momentum loss.
  • Use your coverage move only on predicted switches as they are not strong enough to OHKO opponents at full health, even if they are weak to them.

Team Options
========

  • Jolteon is a good choice on offensive teams that need a revenge killer or a fast special attacker in general
  • It is a good fit in most Spikes-Stacking teams as it forces a lot of switches and it can OHKO or 2HKO every common Defogger in the tier. Good spikes setters include Froslass, Forretress and Roserade
  • Pokemon that can easily switch into Ground Type moves like Flygon and Crobat are good partners. They both have U-Turn to keep the momentum on your side.
  • Mienshao is a good partner as it has U-Turn to keep the chain going and the physical Power to destroy Special Walls like Umbreon
  • Jolteon switches in and out a lot so a Rapid Spin support is appreciated. Starmie is a good choice as it can scare Ground-Types with the threat of Hydro Pump
  • Grass types like Amoonguss and Roserade a problem so Forretress is a good partner as it can easily set up hazards against them avoiding Sleep Powder and Spore if he is running Overcoat

Other Options
########

  • A Substitute + Baton Pass set is useful to capitalize on the switches Jolteon forces but that is done better by Mienshao
  • A Rain Dance + Thunder set might be a decent supporter but that is done better by Heliolisk
  • Charge Beam is the only option Jolteon has to boost its Special Attack outside of Work Up but it is weak and unreliable
  • Sleep Talk but Jolteon isn't threatening to sleep abusers
  • Discharge has an higher Paralysis chance but Jolteon prefers the power Thunderbolt provides and the utility of Volt Switch
  • Heal Bell is a cool option as Jolteon is the fastest cleric in the game but it is an horrible move to be locked into.

Checks & Counters
########

  • Special Walls - Blissey, Florges, and Umbreon laugh at all Jolteon throws at hit and they can heal up with Wish while wearing Jolteon down
  • Bulky Ground Types - Specially Defensive Hippowdon is never 2HKOed by any move Jolteon can go for, has Slack Off and can set up Stealth Rock on Jolteon or OHKO it with Earthquake. Rhyperior is in a similar boat as it doesn't fear the 2HKO from anything if Jolteon is not running Hidden Power Grass and can OHKO with a STAB move
  • Bulky Grass Types - Shaymin and Roserade can easily take a super effective Hidden Power or Signal Beam and do heavy damage or put Jolteon to sleep
  • Offensive Ground Types - Scarf Krookodile outspeeds and OHKOes Jolteon while grabbing a Moxie boosts so it is a good check. He can also pursuit trap one locked into Volt Switch. Nidoking, Nidoqueen and Flygon can take a single Hidden Power (not Ice in Flygon's case) and OHKO with their ground STAB
  • Choice Scarf Pokemon - Choice Scarf Darmanitan, Infernape, Mienshao, and Flygon can outspeed and KO Jolteon with a STAB move
  • Specially Bulky Pokemon - Assault Vest users like Goodra, Machamp, and Metagross can take any single hit and destroy it with Dynamic Punch and Earthquake respectively
  • Dugtrio - Can easily trap and kill Jolteon locked into an electric move

I think Life Orb could be a set or probably just slashed next to Choice Specs. Being locked into an electric type move sucks unless you can predict Ground type switch ins. Also, you should mention Choice Scarf. With it, it can out speed Mega Aerodactyl.

Looking at calcs Life Orb seems underwheilming. Jolteon is spamming Volt Switch 99% of the time anyway and without Choice Specs you miss the importantOHKOs and 2HKOs i mentioned, especially against Hippowdon and Nidoqueen. I guess it might be more useful late game but most of the time Thunderbolt is enough.

Baton Pass Jolteon

@Leftovers/Life Orb
Timid Nature
4 Def/252 Spa/252 Spe

Baton Pass
Thunderbolt
Substitute
Hidden Power Ice.

As a blazing fast revenge killer, lots of Pokemon are quick to get out of Jolteon's way. Substitute abuses this to the extreme, easing prediction and allowing Jolteon to pass its Substitutes to other members of the team. For instance, if the opposing Pokemon does switch out, Jolteon has basically earned free protection against the switch-in, giving it an opportunity to attack that foe or pass its Substitute to another teammate. If the foe does stay in, Jolteon can simply strike it down with the correct move. As this set takes two moveslots for Substitute and Baton Pass, Jolteon will have to resort to the classic pseudo BoltBeam combo, providing excellent coverage in Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Ice.

This set's largest advantage over other sets is its access to reliable scouting, easily taking momentum from any situation without risking Volt Switch being blocked by a Ground-type. More often than not, Jolteon can also find opportunities to pass Substitutes to one of its teammates, surely earning your team the upper hand. Beware, however, that once Jolteon's strategy has been revealed, the opponent will likely attempt to break Jolteon's Substitutes to decrease its health. Do not be overzealous with Substitute if you cannot afford to.

Lol this description was literally just C/P'd from the Gen 5 BP Set xD

Yeah SubPass really hasn't been worth running since Gen 4, really Jolteon doesn't find all that many times to set up a Substitute in a match and even if it can, usually all it ends up doing is bringing in another attacker safely (Which Volt Switch also accomplishes while also doing damage.) An OO mention for sure, but not worthy of a set.

xD im dying so hard right now you caught me lol but yea it would be worth a mention in other options.

I think this will be more viable after megaman goes up
Jolteon is ass

Not QC but isn't Shadow Ball a better move to be locked in for the Specs set than Signal Beam because it has less resists and higher base power?

Yes, and Shadow Ball is definitely a better option than Signal Beam since it requires far less prior damage to 2HKO Mew and Celebi is used significantly less than Mew + you'd be better off just volt switching on a Celebi as opposed to going for Signal Beam since it's such a bad move to lock itself into.
252 SpA Choice Specs Jolteon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Mew: 170-202 (42 - 50%) -- 26.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

And other Grass-types like Roserade, again you're going to be better off just cutting the losses and Volt Switching out on it. So I think that Shadow Ball should be slashed before Signal Beam since it seems like a more powerful option 9/10. Signal Beam still has the bonus of hitting Hydreigon and not forcing you to run HP Ice but aside from that I think it's pretty niche. I'll let another QC weigh in on whether or not Signal Beam should be a slash or just in set details. Actually, on second thought mention Signal Beam in set details and make Shadow Ball a main slash.

Other than that, pretty much everything has been covered. Oh, also in C&C add stuff like Blissey, Volt Absorb mons, Goodra. Basically just expand on the special tanks since I would hardly consider AV Machamp and meta to be specially bulky things. You can have one for special walls and then another for AV users which is where Goodra, Metagross, Machamp etc would fall.

Once all that is done, QC 1/3

Added everything but the volt absorb part as the only volt absorb users in UU or lower are Jolteon itself, minun, pachirisu and lanturn. Thank You!
