JtmJohto's Favorites...at least until 5th Gen

Greetings All,
After much difficulty I have come down to my six favorite Pokemon. I battle in OU most of the time, and occasionally Ubers, and I've been using this same team and editing it since I created my Shoddy account earlier this year. I guess I'm a little old school when it comes to Pokemon, and have been an avid fan of it since its release in the US back in the day as a little kid, and can still vividly remember watching the first episode... mainly because I re-watched it recently. I've adapted since then, and I'm working on my own Pokemon website, not as good as Smogon, but not many are. Finally I want to thank everyone in advanced for your future advice, I'll take any advice I can get.

Clamp (Gliscor) (M) @ Shell Bell
EVs: 110 HP/200 Atk/200 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake-
- Sky Attack-
- Aqua Tail-
- Stealth Rock-
Gliscor is my lead for several reasons the first is his decent SDef, Def and Spd. The second reason is his capability to get Stealth Rocks out, this helps my team gain the upper hand as far as HP% goes. The final reason is how he still can be used later in the game. Earthquake and Sky Attack were chosen as powerful STAB attacks that will inflict a good amount of damage to anything that doesn't resist them. Aqua Tail was chosen for coverage so that Gliscor can hit Ground types that may switch in, and to cover any other possible resistances to Gliscor's attacks, like Areodactyl or Charizard.

RaiRai (Raichu) (M) @ Focus Sash
EVs: 110 HP/200 Spd/200 SAtk
Ability: Static
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Grass Knot-
- Signal Beam-
- Nasty Plot-
- Thunder-
Raichu is used for coverage, and sneaky Grass Knot usage. His moves hit plenty of his opponents fairly well. Riachu's speed usually allows him to strike first with the appropriate move. Grass Knot allows him to hit beastly waters like Swampert with ease and to take out Ground types that would normally wreak havoc on Riachu, for instance Golem, thanks to his high speed. Thunder provides a strong STAB, and Nasty Plot, which is a very recent addition, has done wonders for me. This is especially helpful when coupled with Focus Sash. I have thought about switching Thunder with a good STAB move, because of its 70% accuracy. He's Ev'd for special and speed, but physical attacks would be just as easy to EV for, since they are nearly even at base stats.

Dusk (Umbreon) (M) @ Leftovers
EVs: 80 HP/252 Atk/178 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Payback-
- Curse-
- Moonlight-
- Sucker Punch-
Umbreon is my favorite Pokemon of all time. I used to have a lot of issue with choosing his EV's and move set, but I think I figured out how to fix his move set so as to shovel out monstrous amounts of damage on hard to KO Pokemon. This set allows Umbreon to reach great Atk and Def with Curse. The thing that lets this set work so well is Umbreon's high Def and high SDef, along with his EVs. After a few Curses Umbreon can survive any physical attack and its high SDef allows it to live through several strong special attacks. His Payback will KO nearly anything after several Curses and because Curse lowers speed Payback will nearly always hit last giving it a base 100 power, except against other Cursers. Moonlight allows for immediate healing and even with the prevalence of sandstorm, immediate healing is more beneficial to Umbreon. Sucker Punch gives him a strong priority move to use when his HP is low , or when the time calls for it.

Blaze (Typhlosion) (M) @ Charcoal
EVs: 96 HP/214 Spd/200 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Focus Blast-
- Roar-
- Extrasensory-
- Heat Wave-
Blaze (Typhlosion) is the SAtk-er and Phaser on my team, so his role is pretty simple attack with the most appropriate move and try to do as much damage as possible before he faints. Roar works really well in Blaze's (Typhlosion) move set because it helps clear the field of things like Baton Passers and Dragon Dancers and it also helps further add to Stealth Rocks induced damage. I make sure his speed is high enough to out speed as much as possible, with out restricting his SAtk. I very recently noticed Extrasensory's ability to demolish Infernape users, much to my pleasure. The idea of replacing Charcoal with Wide Lens and Flamethrower for Fire Blast has come to mind.

Render (Heracross) (M) @ Silverpowder
EVs: 110 HP/200 Atk/200 Spd
Ability: Guts
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Megahorn-
- Stone Edge-
- Close Combat-
- Shadow Claw-
Render (Heracross) is my dedicated Physical Atk-er. His ability also allows me to switch him in on a predicted status ailment to boost his attack, if Toxic Spikes are out. With 2 stab moves at 120 base power he really is something terrible to see in battle. The combination of Shadow Claw and Close Combat gives him a completely unresisted move set. Finally Stone Edge is to perfect to cover both his Fire and Flying weaknesses as well as his fellow Bug types. His major role is Ghost, Steel, Psychic, and Dark type destruction.

Ecto (Gengar) (M) @ Wide Lens
EVs: 152 HP/148 Spd/208 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball-
- Focus Blast-
- Dream Eater-
- Hypnosis-
Ecto (Gengar) is the one ghost the Ghostbusters are afraid of. Since I started using Wide Lens his Hypnosis hasn't missed once, and this is very useful to my Dream Eating habit. Focus Blast is also very accurate with the Wide Lens, and is a great counter to Ambipom leads, and Curse Snorlax. While I'm told often that Dream Eater is a waste of time, I have already used it to demolish a team or two reliant on Lucario or Machamp, the greatest perk being damage mixed with healing. He's my back up for Dusk (Umbreon) when he's needed. With a base SAtk of 130 he's a true beast.

Sorry, but what's with these EV spreads? They all look strange and out of place, especially on Gengar. Why not just use the standard Smogon analysis spreads?

Gliscor needs 206HP/88Atk/216Spe. This allows him to outspeed Lucario, and 2HKO Lead Metagross. You also need Leftovers and Taunt, as these are imperative to Gliscor's success as a lead. Roost and/or U-turn are also recommended.

I haven't tried Raichu, but there are a few things wrong with it. First, run the standard 252/252/4 spread, as Raichu's defenses are nothing to talk about. Focus Sash is a worthless item unless on a lead, thanks to the omnipresent Stealth Rock, so try a Life Orb instead. Hidden Power Ice would be much more beneficial than Signal Beam, giving you an opportunity to hit Dragons Supereffectively.

Cursing Umbreon looks decent, but any reason for the EV spread?

Typhlosion wants a spread of 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe, a Timid nature, as well as a Life Orb, Flamethrower/Fire Blast over Heatwave, and HP Rock or Grass over Extrasensory.

Heracross' moveset looks alright, but again, why the strange EV Spread? There are much better choices on the Analysis Page. Also, why Silverpowder as opposed to Life Orb?

I'm sorry, but Gengar looks awful. You want an EV Spread of Timid with 252SpA/252Spe/4HP. Also, dream eater is a complete fail in competitive Pokes, since your opponent would just switch out. Wide Lens can be debatable, but since it only raises Hypnosis' accuracy to 66%, I really don't think it's worth it.

Also, you posted another RMT three days ago. That's against the rules.

I agree with everything DropTheNuke said, sound advice. Maximizing speed does much more to protect frail Pokémon than any defensive EVs would.
