[SET]
Offensive Pivot (Meowscarada) @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Protective Pads
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flower Trick
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Triple Axel
[SET COMMENTS]
Offensive Pivot Meowscarada functions as one of the tiers fastest pivots, being able to use its access to Knock Off and U-Turn to apply pressure to common defensive Pokemon such as Zapdos and Moltres, while also threatening foes such as Alomomola. Flower Trick is Meowscarada's STAB move of choice, allowing it to more effectively hit Zamazenta and Intimidate Landorus-T. Knock Off is used to remove items such as Heavy-Duty Boots from Zapdos and Moltres, as well as Leftovers from foes such as Ferrothorn. U-Turn allows Meoscarads to gain momentum on slower foes which could otherwise switch in on or threaten it such as Heatran and Corviknight. Triple Axel allows Meowscarada to hit Dragon-types such as Raging Bolt and Dragonite, both of which could otherwise answer Meowscarada. Heavy-Duty Boots are used to circumvent hazard damage, increasing Meowscaradas longevity, while Protective Pads allows Meowscarada to pivot on foes such as Zapdos, Moltres and Ferrothorn due to avoiding Static, Flame Body and Iron Barbs repsectively. Protean powers up Meowscaradas Triple Axel and U-Turn, allowing it to OHKO Raging Bolt and Tornadus-T switching in.
Pivot Meowscarada fits on offense and bulky offense teams, where its ability to apply pressure to defensive pieces such as Zapdos, Alomomola and Moltres with Knock Off and its access good coverage is appreciated. Meowscarada often struggles to break through Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Melmetal and Kingambit, meaning Fire-types such as Heatran and Volcarona make excellent teammates, with the former also being an excellent switchin to Cinderace and opposing Volcarona for Meowscarada. In exchange Meowscarada can threaten Ground-types such as Ting Lu and Gliscor who could otherwise prove problematic. Meowscarada also struggles to break through Flying-types who aren't threatened by Triple Axel, such as Moltres, Corviknight and Skarmory. This makes Electric-type teammates such as Raging Bolt as Tapu Koko appreciated, with both in return forming a VoltTurn core with Meowscarada, as well as helping overwhelm shared checks such as Ferrothorn and Heatran. Due to often wanting to pivot out of disadvantageous matchups such as opposing Fire-types like Heatran and Cinderace, answers such as Toxapex and Alomomola make excellent teammates. Another problematic matchup for Meowscarada is that of faster Fighting-types such as Booster Speed Iron Valiant, Zamazenta and Mega Lopunny. This makes Fairy-types such as Clefable, and Poison-types such as the aforementioned Toxapex as well as Galarian Slowking excellent partners, with Meowscarada in return being able to knock off Heavy-Duty Boots, enabling Clefable and Toxapex's hazards to rack up more damage. If running Protective Pads hazard removal is also vital due to Meowscaradas lack of recovery, making teammates like Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Terapagos amazing partners. In exchange Meowscarada can threaten Gholdengo, who could otherwise effectively block Rapid Spin.
