Hi there! That's right all! As the title suggests I was number 1 for Australia in the Think Fast tournament (I think there must have been some mistake but either way I enjoyed it!) and I wanted to share my team with you all! I knocked this team together in about a week, thinking it was going to get decimated by other teams (many featured Mega Kanga...) but actually turned out really well. So anyways, without further ado, get ready to start criticizing my team (and please look up the juniors page and tell me I was hallucinating)!
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Adamant - Mold Breaker - 252 atk/ 252 spd (speed) / 4 HP
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
- Swords Dance
According to most competitive players if you run a Charizard a spinner is mandatory. That's why I chose Excadrill. It has an amazing attack stat, access to Rapid Spin and an ability in Mold Breaker (better watch out Rotom for those super-effective Earthquakes!). Combine Earthquake and Rock Slide with a Swords Dance and you have a battered opposing pokemon.
252+ Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 212-252 (51.2 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Rotom-W: 350-414 (115.1 - 136.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Heliolisk @ Choice Scarf
Timid - Solar Power - 252 sp. atk/ 252 spd / 4 HP
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast
Heliolisk was invaluable for my team. It helpd to take down numerous threats (Greninja and Talonflame most common) and created much needed momentum for my team. There were some issues with Heliolisk such as Solar Power over Dry Skin when my team didn't even have a sun abuser (although with Excadrill and Charizard my team had the overall impression of one that seemed to fool my opponents pretty well).
This gave my Heliolisk a disadvantage against Azumarill, who would Aqua Jet me for unnecessary damage on my pokemon. Overall though I really liked using Heliolisk though I think I would use Thundurus-T over it seeing as it has a better overall special attack and Volt Absorb ability to reduce my teams weakness for electric pokemon.
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Modest - Analytic - 252 sp. atk/ 252 HP/ 4 def
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Tri Attack
- Recover
Porygon2 was my teams much needed wall and boy did it do a great job. Not only does it look ridiculously cool for a duck who was destined for space but failed to get there, but it also has an amazing special attack stat that can leave a dent in anything and the sell of the product defensive stats. I run Tri Attack over Toxic for the chance of a burn on physical attacking pokemon who try to hit Porygon for super-effective fighting damage.
Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Adamant - Huge Power - 252 atk/ 252 HP/ 4 sp. def
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
Another bulky pokemon for my team (which is well needed) which also doubles up as an amazing physical attacker. With access to an ability which raises attacks exponentially, but it also has Belly Drum to raise its attack even further. With that onboard, Azumarill can go on to destroy walls, sweepers and anything in between. You can run but you can't hide.
Charizard @ Charizardite X
Adamant - Tough Claws - 252 atk / 252 spd / 4 HP
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Flare Blitz
My mega of choice and may I just say Mega Charizard X is amazing. I absolutely love it. With at least one dragon dance boost Charizard can hit Venusaur and other bulky pokemon like a tank. Earthquake is used over Roost to provide coverage over Bulky fire pokemon who try and tank Charizard's attacks and Electric pokemon who mistake my Charizard as mega Y.
Gengar @ Black Sludge
Timid - Levitate - 252 sp. atk / 252 spd / 4 HP
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Destiny Bond
I knew as soon as I registered in the tournament that the game would be crawling with Kangaskhan and maybe the only reason I got so high up on the ladder was that my Gengar would set up on Kangaskhan and go on to destroy the rest of the team. I run Destiny Bond over Will-O-Wisp for that small chance that Mega Kanga may run Shadow Claw (I actually came across a Kanga with the move so I was really happy it wasn't for nothing) and end up wrecking my poor ghost.
So that's my team! I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging but I was so overjoyed by the fact I did so well with a team with my favourite pokemon in it. Please accept my apologies. Anyways I put this in red because this is very important for my team. I was thinking of swapping Heliolisk with Thundurus-T and Excadrill with Forretress so please let me know what you think about the changes! Thank you so much for reading and hope you enjoyed!
