Just a silly idea for a ladder/tourny format: rotating OU.

Just had this probably dumb idea, take a tournament or ladder, and after each round or month ban the top 5-10 OUs for the next round/month. So say the top five of month/round 1 would be banned for month/round 2, bu then be aloud back in month/round 3 when month/round 2's top 10 were out. Do you think such a format would be interesting, or develop useful strategies? Would such a format showing much higher diversity in the absence of thinks like chomp and blissy possibly result in them being considered uber? Would you try such a format?

This idea may be sound, but I personally don't think this will catch on.

If someone was willing to organise this as a tournament... yeah I'd probably give it a shot. Making new teams is rather enjoyable (for me anyway).

That would probably end up having essentially two formats rotated every month: one without the top 5 OU Pokemon, and one without the Pokemon from #6 to #10 in OU. :(

Possibly..

Every round, the 5 pokemon used the most is banned for the rest of the tournament?

So if Gyarados, Hippowdon, Blissey Salamence and Tyranitar are the 5 most OU in Round 1, they are taken out for the rest of the tourny?

Sounds interesting, since by removing the top 5 the whole metagame would change, no need to carry a Gyara/Chomp counter, special sweepers are much better without Blissey, etc. Of course a single pokemon would only be gone a maximim of half the time anyway.

Not a bad idea, will allow people to use other pokemon to fill in the roles, who they may prefer? The great thing is, I only use Blissey in the top #5 So no problem to me or my teams (Not like I can do anything good with them (As shown in Tourny's)

I would prefer this idea over the topic's idea for the reason X-Act explained. However, I'd say the month after which Blissey is banned first will be ran over by overpowered Special sweepers and such.

But it does sound very interesting.

No Blissey just means that they'll be more 'revenge killers' and a lot more offense, since Blissey is the mainstay in a Defensive team. So without Blissey now, we're going to be getting a shitload of Dugtrios+Weaviles and so on.

I really like this idea, and depending on how you do it, I may be willing to try it out. I say go with Aldaron's suggestion, and just test it out, if you can. But as people say, use the idea that ViVi suggested, for the reasons that X-Act and Mekkah said. I'd definitely like to see two things out of this: killing stall and no Blissey. All those people who say that Blissey should be uber: watch what happens without it.

It would be a constant mass or adapting

"Ok, Blissey TTar Gyarados Chomp and Salamence are gone"

Likely the next big 5 would be something Cressy Ape Metagross Gliscor and Azelf, then you have to decide "Whats the next 5 that everyone will be using, and how do I take it out?"
