Kickin' it Old School

=== kickin it old school ===
I was inspired to make an all Gen I pokemon team a while ago, and it's been very successful. I haven't ran into many weaknesses. I have a record of about 42 and 7 with the team. Can any of you all help me find any improvements to it, or find any flaws?

Machamp @ Lum Berry
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spd
Adamant Nature
- DynamicPunch
- Substitute
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge

The classic anti lead machamp. This is a major threat to many leads, and it's one of the best, if not the best Gen I lead. I decided to go with a sub machamp because this poke causes a ton of switches. It has pretty good coverage move wise. I haven't really had to use lum berry because it's always been behind a sub. So should I switch that to leftovers, or should i play it safe with the lum berry?

Gengar @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Disable
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Thunder Bolt

This gengar is an absolute nuisance to many pokes. I decided to run tbolt because I didn't have any electric type moves and I am already running Focus miss on Kazam.

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Energy Ball

This Kazam is one of the staples to this team, being able to take out almost every poke in the tier. It 2hko's chansey with psyshock and 2hko's ferrothorn with focus miss, if I get lucky enough to hit it twice in a row. Energy ball is for those annoying Keldeo, Gastrodon, bulky waters, and Rotom.

Gyarados
@ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Stone Edge

This is my revenge killer/Late game sweeper. After a moxie boost it goes for 500+ attack and 400+ speed making it an absolute monster. The only problem is getting locked into a bad move. That's why I try to save it until the end of the battle.

Snorlax @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Careful Nature
- Rest
- Curse
- Selfdestruct
- Fire Punch

This is a pretty unorthodox curse/rest lax set due to selfdestruct. Selfdestruct can take out anything after a couple curses. Stab selfdestruct = 300 base power + curse = infinite damage. It carries fire punch just incase it runs into a ferrothorn or skarmory. Not to mention that it's a pretty good wall.

Cloyster @ Leftovers
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 252 HP / 188 Atk / 68 Def
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard
- Rapid Spin
- Protect

I needed a defensive wall that can take out dragons and gliscor, so i went with cloyster. It's a pretty good set to have with skill link and priority ice shard. Rapid spin to get rid of threats and protect just to feel out my opponent.

Conclusion

I think I may need to add some status moves, but this is not much of a stalling team. It relies on good predictions and great coverage for every poke. Feel free to comment and make suggestions about my team. Thanks for taking time to read this post.

Hi. While I love the concept of an all-RBY team, yours seems to have quite a lot of flaws.

First of all, you are very vulnerable to fast threats, like Terrakion (SubSalac is extremely threatening, since after the Berry boost it outspeeds your entire team and OHKOs many of them), Garchomp (which is not even OHKO'd by STAB Ice Shard...) and many others. Second, you don't carry Stealth Rock, which is invaluable even if you are restricted to sub-par setters by your "theme choice". Third, Cloyster is absolutely terrible as a spinner, being very weak to hazards itself, and having horrible defensive typing. You need something more reliable at all costs, since if you fail to remove hazards, Gyarados will be very easily worn down by Rocks, and without a revenge killer your team will crumble easier to anything fast enough.

So my first suggestion is to slash Cloyster and replace it with a Bulky Starmie. Starmie has been OU in every generation for a reason; awesome typing, speed, usable defenses and attacking stats, and access to Spin support. Its bulky set is seeing much usage in this period, since it's reliable, can absorb a fair amount of hits even from powerhouses like Keldeo, Offensive Toed, Terrakion's CCs, and can outspeed ahd hit them back with annoying attacks like Scald / Psyshock, or just paralyze them. Recover and lefties make sure that the opponent won't have an easy task taking down your spinner.

Starmie @ Leftovers | Natural Cure
Timid | 252 HP / 24 Def / 8 SpA / 224 Spe
- Scald
- Psyshock / Ice Beam / Thunder Wave
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

Now, we need to add a SR user somewhat. Your choices are limited, since the only SR setters available in Gen 1 and somewhat decent are Chansey, Nidoqueen/king, Aerodactyl, Mew, and Kabutops to a lesser extent. I would add a Chansey instead of Snorlax: it gives you mixed walling prowess thanks to Eviolite and awesome bulk, and is a check for the omnipresent Tornadus-T (Superpower doesn't 2HKO). You'll lose the attacking prowess of Snorlax, however I bet you won't regret this change at all.

Chansey @ Eviolite | Natural Cure
Bold | 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
- Stealth Rock
- Softboiled
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic / Heal Bell / Thunder Wave

These changes should improve quite a bit your team, giving Gengar the ability to abuse switches thanks to Stealth Rock (you should remove THunderbolt and go for Focus Blast, your team is already somewhat Tyranitar weak so another check won't hurt, and Thunderbolt actually can only hit Waters, Flying types that are already checked by something else (Starmie / Chansey, depending on the particular pokemon)), breaking opposing Sashes and generally wearing down the opponent. Also, with Starmie providing reliable spinning ability, you can much more easily revenge with Gyarados, and Scald / Psyshock gives you the ability to check Terrakion / Gengar / or to burn the incoming Grass type.

Hope I helped somewhat. Good luck with your team.
