Kicking it old school in the sun!

I haven't really played the game since Silver and gold and I'm trying to construct a team with more of the old school pokemon. Any suggestions and tips are well appreciated.

Dugtrio takes the role of my revenge killer. Stealth Rock for added entry damage. Earthquake and stone edge give amazing coverage and provide my team with a decent physical attacker. Not Sure if Stealth rock is good on him but I don't have anyone else who can setup reliably.

Dugtrio @ Choice Band
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Sucker Punch

Ninetails will always be the core of any SD team. Will-o-wisp and confuse ray make a great combination and help cripple opposing physical sweepers. Roar helps Substitute protects from status effects and leftovers allows some regen while burn and confuse chip away damage. Roar is a nice to spread entry damage and burn status. Since most people send weather changers out first, I usually send Ninetails second to cancel opposing weathers.

Ninetails @ Leftovers
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP/ 168 SP/ 88 Def
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Will o Wisp
- Substitute
- Confuse Ray/Roar

Espeon takes the support role on my team. Instead I use her ability to protect from entry hazards and other predictable status effects. Reflect boosts my team's poor defense and light screen is icing on the cake if i can use afterwords. Shadow ball is there for neutral coverage.

Espeon @ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 SP/ 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Shadow Ball

In the sun Venusaur becomes a monster. Chlorophyll almost always allows me to setup sleep powder then growth. The +2 SA +2 AT is usually enough to one hit most pokemon. I considered using solarbeam over Energy ball but found it really risky when fighting teams with weather changers.

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SA/ 252 SP/ 4 Def
Modest Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Growth
- Sludge Bomb
- Energy Ball

I usually like using Starmie to start a fight. His bolt beam coverage along with Psychic are usually good enough to score a kill early on. Starmie also acts as a good check with 3/4 other weather changers out there. They'll usually switch out when the see Starmie leading and from there I can predict what type will come out ( abuser of weather). Makes for an easy kill against other ground types or water types. Rapid spin support is essential for my team since Ninetails and Charizard all hate stealth rock.

Starmie@ Choice Spec
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SA/ 252 SP/ 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Psychic

I usually anchor my team with Charizard coming in last. His EV spread along with solar power allow him to hit like a truck without any setup. Fire blast under the sun can OHKO most pokes who don't resist. Air slash to deal with fighting types and Volcarana. Focus blast to deal with any dark types (Tyranitar). I use Solar beam on zard because most of the time i'm rarely dealing with unfavorable weather during the end of match. His moveset allows me to really hit a good number of types.

Charizard @ Choice Scarf/ Expert belt
Ability: Solar Power
EVs: 252 SA/ 252 SP/ 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Air Slash
- Focus Blast
- Solar Beam

Dugtrio with CB should not have SR. Replace with Aerial Ace (even if it has poor attack) Still better than being locked in SR and forced to switch.

Ninetales should drop fire blast and instead have flamethrower since drought will be already boosting fire type moves and flamethrower has better acc. Suggesting energy ball to hit water types instead of having sub.

Disappointed at lack of water stab on Starmie (Psychic stab is poor imo)

Okay team I suppose.

I'm thinking about switching out dugtrio for aerodactyl to get a sr user in. If not I'm gonna switch out sr from trio s moves. I took surf off of starmie because it loses a lot of damage due to sun.

You have options to play when under absence of sun, so what's the point of using a Drought team if you are afraid of controlling weather?

Everybody likes controlling weather! It's badass.

It's not about fear of containing the weather but if toad or tyrannies switch into a solar beam, they get a free turn and can switch out to someone who can take the hit.
