Surprisingly i didn't start out with the idea of the rain, so my first choice was Heatran, this was his set:
Heatran @ Focus Sash
Trait: Flame body
Evs: 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 HP
Nature: Timid (+Spe -Atk)
-Stealth Rock
-Roar
-Magma Storm
-Earth Power
I wanted a lead that could set up Stealth Rock, then immediately started dishing out damage so the first one that crossed my mind was heatran, and also common rapid spinners and entry hazards users (Forretress, Ferrothorn, Skarmory, i must watch out for Tentacruel and Donphan though) fear heatran's attacks.
Focus Sash allows Heatran to survive at least one attack so that he can set up stealth rock (unless a rare rock blast from a cinccino hits him, but i find that VERY unlikely to happen)
I chose flame body as heatran's since my opponent most of the times will be expecting flash fire so they won't hit heatran with a fire type move, also flame body ruins physical attackers that hit heatran, but guts users don't mind it.
The Ev spread (and nature) is so that heatran as a chance of striking back after setting Stealth Rock.
Roar is so that Heatran doesn't become setup fodder
Next i though of a Pokemon that works with Heatran and is a setup Sweeper so i thought of...
Haxorus @ Leftovers
Trait: Mold Breaker
Evs: 252 Atk , 252 Spe , 4 HP
Nature: Jolly (+Spe -SpA)
-Dragon Dance
-Aqua Tail
-Earthquake
-Dragon Claw
Here is Dragon Dance Haxorus, although it doesn't have much synergy with heatran, heatran is a suicide lead so it doesn't matter much :P, Anyways i'll start explaining a bit more of Haxorus's (<--- almost certain that that is a typo, but i'm portuguese ;_; so i don't remember the rule about names that end in s) Set ...
Leftovers may grant Haxorus a extra Dragon Dance, which increases his sweeping potential
I chose Mold Breaker over Rivalry since Rivalry can lower my attack and i need all the attack i can get, and also, Mold Breaker allows Unware to not functiom and Earthquake to hit Pokemons with Levitate.
The Ev spread is pretty self-explanatory since it's the signature spread for physical attackers, Jolly Nature is over Adamant so that Haxorus can outspeed more pokemons after a dragon dance, but the power loss is sometimes prejudicial.
Dragon Claw is the main stab since Outrage can screw everything up in some cases, Earthquake and Aqua Tail are for coverage (see below for extra reason that aqua tail was chosen)
Haxorus's (<---- again) resistance to fire type brought me to...
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
Evs: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 HP
Nature: Jolly (+Spe -SpA)
-Iron Head
-Body Slam
-Wish
-U-Turn
Meet Jirachi (sounds of hair being torn out of people's heads), the most annoying pokemon to face, i chose him because he's weak to fire type moves (which Haxorus resists) and can literally make people ragequit (which to me is simply awesome)
Leftovers to recover if i can't trust wish
Serene Grace doubles chances of secondary effects, with jirachi's movepool=nuff said :)
The Evs spread is the one that i had to think about the most, because of the dilema between bulky or offensive para-flincher, i eventually chose offensive because i tested bulky and with bulky jirachi does almost 0% damage so i chose the offensive ev spread instead, the Spe evs and jolly Nature allow him to outspeed lots of pokemons.
I chose iron head for obvious reasons, and body slam over thunder wave for the following reason:ghost types take good damage from iron head (bar Jellicent) so there's less need to paralyze them than to paralyze ground types which resist iron head and also threaten jirachi with ground stabs.
Wish and U-Turn are to scout/pass wishes although not too strong to other pokemons and also heal jirachi.
Next Pokemon had to have good defensive bulk (ground types are more commonly physical)and had to have at least neutrality to ground and fire moves and obviously counter them and also to be a setup sweeper/spinner, which brings me to...
Cloyster @ White Herb
Trait: Skill Link
Evs: 252 HP, 252 SpD, 4 Atk
Nature: Jolly (+Spe -SpA)
-Rapid Spin
-Shell Smash
-Icicle Spear
-Waterfall
One of the blessed pokemons that obtained Shell Smash , Cloyster has unbelievable defensive bulk (although not much special defensive bulk) which makes him a good spinner and after a shell smash (although i get 2 Shell Smashes in about 80% of the matches)he's a hell of a sweeper, with access to stab icicle spear, that with skill link becomes almost unstoppable.
White Herb to prevent the first shell smash from crippling me
Skill Link allows Cloyster to use icicle spear to its fullest.
Bulky Ev spread so that Cloyster can setup 2 Shell Smashes.
Timid Nature so that cloyster's speed doesn't stay poor even after Shell Smash.
Shell Smash is the move that brings this set together, transforming cloyster in to a beast even after only one Shell Smash.
Rapid Spin Because i don't want to waste a moveslot on a dedicated rapid spinner.
... (continuation)
So now i have a base plan of my team and now i wanted a pokemon that could tear down the fire type weaknesses on the team so i chose :
Politoed @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
Evs: 252 SpA , 252 Spe , 4 HP
Nature: Timid (+Spe -Atk)
-Hydro Pump
-Hidden Power Fighting
-Ice Beam
-Perish Song
Politoed, one of the weather masters, i chose him because rain:
-boosts haxorus's (<--- again) aqua tail
-allows for genesect to use thunder instead of thunder bolt (see below)
-Genesect is no longer 4x times weak to rain (see below)
-Jirachi is no longer weak to fire
-Boosts Cloyster's Waterfall
the downside is that heatran hates rain but , he's a lead so rain won't be up until he dies.
Choice Scarf allows Politoed to surprise certain pokes that expect politoed to be slow and bulky but then get surprised.
Drizzle for obvious reasons.
Ev spread is the basic spread for special attackers.
Timid Nature ensures max speed.
Hydro Pump is put over Surf because the power can sometimes be decisive
HP Fighting so that tyranitar gets seriously hurt
Ice beam for coverage
and Perish Song can seem weird but shutdowns baton passers expecting choiced politoed
And now if you read the above part you must be expecting this:
Genesect @ Life Orb
Trait: Download
Evs:252 Spe , 252 SpA , 4 Atk
Nature: Hasty (+Spe -Def)
-Thunder
-Ice Beam
-Bug Buzz
-U-Turn
Genesect, despite his lackluster speed his offensive stats are amazing.
Life Orb since i didn't want to use choice items but needed the extra power
Download is very useful on a pokemon that uses physical and special attacks.
The ev spread is that Genesect hits hard with special attacks and combined with Hasty it allows for him to reach good speed
U-Turn is used when genesect just needs to gtfo or scout
Bug Buzz as his Stab of choice
Thunder always hits under rain and combined with ice beam gives the BoltBeam coverage that many sweepers seek
i posted this RMT because in 15 battles in Pokemon Showdown i got 75% win rate (more or less) but i felt that certain pokemons really threatened my team so i wanted to know the aspects i could work on , so my team improves
Heatran @ Focus Sash
