King Kong in the trunk

Hey Smogon! This my first UU Rate My Team. I found that OU was starting to bore me because every time I played I basically ran into the same 6 pokemon. So because of this I've decided to descend to the lower tier where I believe the metagame is a lot more balanced and also a lot more fun because of the variety of pokemon one can encounter. Normally I don't do RMT's, but I really like this team a lot and it has been giving people fits on the server because the sets on the pokemon aren't that predictable. So I just want to hear what people think and if they have any solid suggestions.

How the Team was Built:

Basically the 6 pokemon on this team are 6 pokemon that I used on OU teams that did really well. I thought Hey, if they can do solid damage in OU they should manage just fine in OU. And so far they have. I started using this team in UU and my rating was 1093. Since using this team I am now at 1405.

The Team:

venomoth.jpg

Venomoth @ Leftovers
Ability: Wonderskin
Nature: Timid
252 Spe/ 252 HP/ 4 SpA
Bug Buzz/ Baton Pass/ Quiver Dance/ Sleep Powder

9/10 Venomoth is my lead. The reason I run him as a baton passing lead instead of more popular UU choices like Mew or Yanmega is because of his awesome ability Wonderskin. This ability reduces the accuracy of non damaging moves by 50%, which really helps to avoid being taunted or burned right off the bat. Sleep powder ensures that Venomoth will get at least one QD off before being forced to pass. Bug Buzz is the obligatory STAB move just in case there is an advantage or I'm down to only Venomoth

080Slowbro.png

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Modest
252 HP/ 252 SpA/ 4 SpD
Calm Mind/ Psychic/ Scald/ Ice Beam

Slowbro is my all time favorite pokemon and the one pokemon that will always be on my team no matter what. He is has gotten me out of so many tight spots he has earned his stripes. Slowbro is here to check some of the biggest threats in the tier including Victini, Arcanine, Machamp, Togekiss, Nidoking and queen, and Mienshao. Slowbro takes a lot of damage and after a Calm Mind can be quite devastating. Regenerator is perfect for him seeing as how he will take damage because he is very slow.

crobat.jpg

Crobat @ black sludge
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Jolly
176 HP/ 192 Atk/ 136 Spe/ 4 SpD
Brave Bird/ U-Turn/ Giga Drain/ Taunt

Crobat is on this team for basically reasons. Heracross, Togekiss and Scrafty. Serene Grace Togekiss is so annoying its unbelievable. Crobat basically forces the switch seeing as how Air Slash cannot flinch it and does no damage. Brave Bird OHKOs Scrafty who can wreck my team othewise. Outside of those 2 he also works well as an alternate lead. He can scout and U-turn out or set up Taunt. Giga Drain is just there to hit Azumarill and Blastoise just in case.

chandelure_by_draken_leader-d5eyh8i.png

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Timid
252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 SpD
Energy Ball/ Flamethrower/ Shadow Ball/ Confuse Ray

Right off the bat I just want to say I am not a huge fan of Choice items I hate being locked into one attack especially if I am baton passing because it can essentially ruin the whole process. Anyway not much needs to be said of how much of a beast Chandelure is. He works great with Venomoth and absorbs any fire attack that may come his way. Flamethrower over Fire blast just for accuracy. Energy Ball to hit Blastoise, Sharpedo, Swampert etc. Shadow Ball to hit other Chandelure and the occasional other ghosts. Confuse Ray may be an interesting choice to some but I chose it over Pain Split or substitute just to slow down pokemon that are trying to set up. Also seeing as Chandelure doesnt have great speed that extra turn it may by is extremely useful.PS Sorry how big his picture is, it got late and was too tired to find a new one.

snorlax.gif

Snorlax @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Careful
252 HP/ 252 SpD/ 4 Atk
Body Slam/ Rest/ Sleep Talk/ Whirlwind

Snorlax. My favorite special wall of all time. I was using just the basic curselax set until I got a tip on showdown that a whirlwind set would work better for my team. I tried it out and so far so good. Whirlwind is obviously there to phase out pokemon trying to set up. Body Slam does massive damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Rest and sleep Talk are pretty straight forward. Again it never hurts to have a good special wall.

heracross.jpg

Heracross @ Flame Orb
Ability: guts
Nature: Jolly
252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Close Combat/ Stone Edge/ Megahorn/ Facade

Heracross in UU is a lot like Politoed or Cloyster in OU. You know everyone has them and you need a pokemon specifically to deal with them. Heracross is the biggest beast in UU and should be a staple on every team. Crobat was put on my team specifically to take out Heracross. Nothing needs to be said about this set, you've all seen and know about it.

So there it is. Pretty unorthodox team with some odd moves but this team has worked for me. I know there a probably some flaws that others will see that I may be oblivious too. But thats why I'm posting this. Hopefully I find out something important and useful and I look forward to hearing any potential feedback.

I would consider making slowbro a more defensive variant, given that you don't really have a dedicated physical wall on this team. If you want to take the easy way out, you could just allocate some of the HP evs into def, but you could also try a more defensive moveset, like Calm Mind - Scald - Slack Off - Ice Beam/Fire Blast/Psychic/Psyshock (Psyshock preferred imo).

I don't really agree with your Chandelure set. LO Chandelure is certainly somewhat viable, although massively outclassed by the choiced items, but if you're set on using LO I'd suggest a different set. Confuse Ray is basically pointless and only really works if you're using a pokemon with respectable bulk, which Chandelure lacks. I would suggest the SubSplit set.

Chandelure @ Life Orb - 68 HP/252 SpA/4 SpD/184 Spe
Modest Nature
Flash Fire/Flame Body (yes, flame body chandelure is actually viable)
-Sub
-FBlast
-SBall
-PainSplit

Best of luck!

Hey there, this is def an interesting team just a few points.
1. I don't really see the purpose of venomoth other than sleep inducing. I would say that your quiverpass is good, but you don't have too many viable receivers outside of chandelure and slowbro, which both are pursuit/crunch weak. I think that you may be able to substitite roserade > venomoth for a few reasons. Both have sleep powder. Roserade has access to giga drain/sludge bomb which hit almost everything for neutral coverage and can use hidden power to get nigh perfect coverage. Your snorlax whirlwinds for no reason tbh. If you had hazards at least you'd be spreading damage around correct? And roserade/slowbro go great together while snorlax patches up the holes they can't cover.
2. If you're going for a modest slowbro, go trick choice specs. Otherwise go bulky as kitten milk set. Physically def slowbro goes perfectly with snorlax. You can still have calm mind.
3. No giga drain on crobat. With a negative sp attack nature (jolly) you're not doing anything useful with giga drain. Change it to roost and if you see a problem, u turn out. No evs, jolly nature giga drain does nothing to azumaril and blastoise. Heck it barely touches rhyperior with a x4 weakness.
4. Kitten milk hit the nose on the head again, switch chandy to subsplit, you'll find yourself able to beat chandys counters much easier.
5. Snorlax is good, but you may be able to shift some evs into attack if you are trying to take a certain hit like choice specs kingdra hydro pump in rain (but roserade would take that with no problem just saying). Oh and no chesto berry. You're running a non boosting set, run leftovers since lax does more asleep than awake.
6. 2 easy things for heracross; adamant nature > jolly and toxic orb > flame orb. A guts set needs a lot of power which is better with adamant and toxic orb takes 3 turns to equal the damage from flame orb. For longevitiy purposes, run toxic orb.

Hi! This a great team, but I'd like to point out a few things.

You're team has a weakness to AoA Honchcrow and other offensive flying types. Have a Pokemon on there that can check those. You seem to be pretty confident countering Togekiss, so you're on the right track there.

Another thing I should point out is that your team Lacks entry hazards and is also weak to Stealth Rock. Half of your team is gonna take 25% on the switch in, including your passer. This basically means that you MUST have Stealth Rock covered, and because your only weapon against SR is Taunt on Crobat (not your lead), you need to fit a spinner in there somewhere. I know it might pain you, but I think your team would ultimately benefit from replacing Slowbro with Rapid Spin Blastoise.

Also, with a Baton Pass Pokemon, it's a good idea to have a revenge killer with you just in case your passed Pokemon faints, and you need to destroy a threat quickly. Since Heracross shares a type with your passer (type diversity is very important in my eyes), I would recommend Replacing Heracross with Choice Scarf Mienshao. Reckless Hi Jump Kick will do a lot of damage, even compared to Guts Heracross, and you don't need to worry about self-inflicted status slowly killing you.

As previously mentioned, your team lacks a Pokemon that can fully take advantage of Quiver Dance. This team needs a specially offensive Pokemon with some speed so you can pull off a sweep, which besides Heracross most of your pokemon can't do, and Heracross is physical so he can't use the quiver pass.

That's about it! Great team otherwise (:

Don't replace slowbro with blastoise. He has sleep powder on venomoth and taunt on crobat. Slowbro has regen, snorlax is resttalk and hera is neutral. The main users of stealth rock will be destroyed by guts boosted close combat/megahorn (rhyperior and claydol).

Guts hera is a wallbreaker not a revenge killer. Scarf shao isn't not recommended, reckless or not. Guts hera is much stronger than a reckless hjk.
