[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Dazzling Gleam
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Thunder Wave / Foul Play
item: Leftovers
ability: Prankster
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Klefki provides utility and defensive support thanks to its nifty defensive typing, serviceable defensive stats, ability in Prankster, and access to various moves such as Spikes, Toxic, and Thunder Wave. Dazzling Gleam is the preferred STAB move to threaten Bulk Up Scrafty, and Foul Play prevents threatening foes like Copperajah and Centiskorch from coming in for free. The stat spread and movepool of Klefki allow for a highly customizable set, meaning that it can opt for other moves like Magnet Rise, combinations such as Choice Scarf and Switcheroo, other sets like Calm Mind, and various other EV spreads. A physically defensive spread in particular allows it to handle some common physical attackers and act as a more effective Knock Off switch-in, but its typing is typically more useful to handle special attackers like Gardevoir, Goodra, and Dragalge thanks to Klefki's key resistances to Fairy- and Psychic-type attacks and immunities to Dragon- and Poison-type attacks.
A plethora of late-game sweepers such as Barraskewda and Salazzle, setup Pokemon like Scrafty, Choice Scarf users such as Drapion and Passimian, and even Golisopod appreciate the damage racked up by Klefki's Spikes to ease their job later on. Klefki struggles against some entry hazard removers, particularly Coalossal, so teammates that can take advantage of them, such as wallbreakers like Golurk, make for nice teammates. Klefki struggles with Fire- and Ground-types, so Water-types such as Seismitoad and the aforementioned Barraskewda support it nicely. Rhyperior in particular is a fantastic teammate as well, being able to handle Fire-types like Charizard and Salazzle for Klefki and potentially pressure other Pokemon, notably Sigilyph and Galarian Slowbro, that Klefki struggles against. Knock Off users like Seismitoad and Centiskorch increase the potency of Klefki's Spikes by removing Heavy-Duty Boots and other items like Leftovers that mitigate the damage from Spikes, so they are great teammates as well.
