[SET COMMENTS]
Klefki is a defensive Spikes user that brings a myriad of utility options to its team. Its spectacular typing allows it to check common threats like Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Dragalge while also soft checking the likes of Zarude and Obstagoon. Thunder Wave serves as a great form of speed control, allowing Klefki to shut down sweepers and cripple the likes of Noivern and Crobat. Toxic in the final slot ensures that Klefki has a way to threaten Ground-type Pokemon like Seismitoad and Electric-type Pokemon like Thundurus and Raikou, though it is less valuable for faster paced offensive teams, as the gradual poisoning damage doesn't have as many turns to add up. Defog can be used over a status move on teams that need emergency hazard removal; however, Klefki has poor matchups against common hazard setters like Cobalion, Steelix, and Metagross. Foul Play can be used over Toxic in order to give Klefki a way to punish a number of its checks, such as Alolan Marowak, Metagross, and Doublade, as they switch in. Magnet Rise is an option that allows Klefki to continue setting Spikes even against certain Ground-type Pokemon like Seismitoad. A dual screens set with Light Clay is another option Klefki has, and it is mostly useful for supporting hyper offense teams. A specially defensive EV spread is used to allow Klefki to more easily take hits from the likes of Gardevoir, Togekiss, and Necrozma. A physically defensive spread can be used instead for teams that need a more reliable check to Zarude.
Klefki pairs well with offensive threats that benefit from its ability to wear down grounded pokemon with Spikes, like Zygarde-10% and Thundurus. Bulky Water-types like Seismitoad and Suicune make for good partners, helping it deal with the Pokemon like Steelix and Darmanitan that pose the biggest threat to it. It also partners well with Zarude, as it's able to take on and cripple most of the Flying-types that check it with Thunder Wave. Nasty Plot Galarian Slowbro, Barbaracle, and Linoone all appreciate dual screens support from Klefki. Finally, slower wallbreakers like Heracross, Toxtricity, and Tyrantrum appreciate Klefki's ability to spread paralysis around so they can punch holes through the enemy team.
