The combination of Shift Gear and Gear Grind enables Klinklang to act as a lethal sweeper. Shift Gear doubles its Speed stat and raises its Attack stat one stage. Gear Grind is its primary STAB move, breaking Substitutes from the likes of Rotom and Arctovish. Substitute prevents status users like Rotom-Fan, Uxie, and Rotom from affecting it, easing the need for prediction. Alternatively, Magnet Rise can lure Rhydon and Piloswine and wall them. Toxic cripples bulky Pokemon it struggles to beat, like Pyukumuku, Wishiwashi, and Stunfisk. Wild Charge enables Klinklang to better deal with Water- and Steel-type Pokemon that resist Gear Grind, such as against Poliwrath and Perrserker. The EV spread allows Klinklang to outspeed Frosmoth and Alolan Sandslash unboosted and Scarf Manectric after a boost.

Klinklang’s merely decent bulk alongside common weaknesses to Ground-, Fire-, and Fighting-type moves leaves it vulnerable to having its sweep halted by the likes of Poliwrath, Rapidash, and Stunfisk. Partners like Gurdurr and Rotom are appreciated to provide momentum for Klinklang to set up, allowing it to more easily sweep late game. In turn, Klinklang can utilize its defensive profile to set up on foes like Tangela, Alcremie, and non-Rocky Helmet Miltank. Klinklang can struggle to beat Steel-resistant Pokemon like Poliwrath, Perrserker, and Wishiwashi, so partners like Sawk and Rapidash can punch holes into the opposing team and facilitate easier setup opportunities for Klinklang.

This set takes a different approach by turning Klinklang into an early-game wallbreaker. Gear Grind is its main STAB move and threatens to OHKO Alcremie, Clefairy, and Aurorus. Wild Charge 2HKOes Poliwrath, Wishiwashi, and Arctovish. Volt Switch generates momentum for its teammates. Facade enables

A Jolly nature can be used to outspeed Modest Thievul and Adamant Kangaskhan, but Klinklang appreciates all the power it can get and is advised to stick to the original spread.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-resistant Pokemon**: Pokemon that resist Gear Grind can hinder it from sweeping, which would usually force it out. Examples include Perrserker, Poliwrath, and Wishiwashi that can all stomach its attacks and use it as setup fodder or just directly attack it with their STAB moves. Poliwrath and Wishiwashi dislike getting hit by Toxic, however, and Wild Charge can deal immense damage to them at +1.

**Offensive Pokemon**: Klinklang can have difficulty setting up Shift Gear against offensive teams, as Pokemon like Sawk, Rapidash, and Ninetales can outspeed and OHKO it with their STAB moves, though they have difficulty switching if Klinklang has boosted beforehand or has afflicted them with Toxic.

**Status**: Although Klinklang cannot be poisoned, burns cripple its sweeping potential, while paralysis increases its chances of failing to connect Gear Grind while requiring it to use more Shift Gear boosts to outspeed the metagame.
