[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its typing and exceptional physical bulk, Koffing is a great defensive glue and the premier Toxic Spikes setter of the metagame. Sludge Bomb is Koffing's best STAB option and its high chance to poison can punish common switch-ins like Girafarig and Misdreavus. Will-O-Wisp prevents attackers like Pawniard and Coil Dunsparce from setting up on Koffing and puts Steel-types like Tinkatuff and Hisuian Sliggoo on a timer. Toxic Spikes creates extreme pressure against most team structures due to the limited usage Heavy-Duty Boots sees. Thief turns Koffing into a Knock Off absorber and allows it to steal back Eviolite. Flamethrower gives a more direct way to punish Steel-type switch-ins. Neutralizing Gas allows Koffing to bypass Magic Guard and Magic Bounce from Clefairy and Hattrem respectively, use Thief on Tinkatuff without Pickpocket activating, and induce status effects on Naclstack.

Koffing fits best on slower balance or stall archetypes that create longer games, need more long-term answers to threats like Thwackey, and get more value from Toxic Spikes's incremental damage. A Ghost-type partner such as Misdreavus or Drakloak is essential to block spinners like Quaxwell and Wartortle. Steel-types like Tinkatuff and Hisuian Sliggoo can halt special wallbreakers like Girafarig and Frogadier that pose big threats once let in. Koffing's best defensive trait is that it walls common Grass-types like Servine, Ivysaur, and especially Thwackey. Therefore, wallbreakers that can make immediate progress but let those in for free like Piloswine, Wartortle, and setup Misdreavus are all most appreciative of its defensive utility. Lastly, bulkier wincons like Duosion and Vigoroth really appreciate Toxic Spikes's passive damage as it eases setup for them and makes them even harder to keep checked.

While Levitate allow Koffing to wall offensive Ground-types like Gabite, it comes at the cost of Koffing's critically important ability to absorb opposing Toxic Spikes as a grounded Poison-type and various interactions that Neutralizing Gas makes favorable. Toxic is great at making progress and preferable against Facade Vigoroth and special attackers, but it renders Koffing even more passive against Steel-types.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Tinkatuff and Hisuian Sliggoo both wall Koffing and are not immediately deterred by Will-O-Wisp, freely able to set Stealth Rock or start wallbreaking.

**Psychic-types**: Girafarig and Duosion are both extremely immediately threatening to Koffing and can potentially sweep if given free turns to set up. Duosion is particularly fearsome as it is unaffected by the passive damage from Toxic Spikes due to Magic Guard once Koffing is forced out. RestTalk Hattrem is comfortable switching into Koffing and healing off status damage while threatening to use its STAB moves or Nuzzle.

**Ghost-types:** Misdreavus and Drakloak commonly run Night Shade, which lets them trade health against Koffing very efficiently due to its low HP stat. Misdreavus is particularly threatening, as Taunt shuts down Koffing completely. While rare, Lampent is also a nightmare to deal with thanks to its strong special attacks and Flash Fire turning Will-O-Wisp into a beneficial effect.

**Special Wallbreakers:** Light Ball-boosted Pikachu and Choice Specs users like Frogadier, Drakloak, and Hisuian Sliggoo all threaten enormous damage on Koffing and are difficult for its teammates to switch into.

**Status Absorbers**: Facade Vigoroth and Pain Split Misdreavus are both very content to take a Will-O-Wisp or Sludge Bomb poison, as they minorly benefit from those status effects and love being shielded from paralysis.

Koffing is a great defensive glue and the premier Toxic Spike setter of the metagame (maybe add something like "due to it's great bulk, typing, and utility moves). Sludge Bomb is Koffing's best STAB option and it's high chance to poison can punish common switch-ins (mention names like Girafarig, Quaxwell, etc). Will-O-Wisp prevents attackers like Pawniard and Coil Dunsparce from setting up on Koffing and puts Steel-types like Tinkaton and Hisuian Sliggoo on a timer. Toxic Spikes creates extreme pressure against most team structures due to the limited usage Heavy Duty Boots sees. Thief turns Koffing into a Knock Off absorber and allows it to steal back Eviolites. Flamethrower gives a more direct way to punish Steel-type switchins. Neutralizing Gas is essential to be able to use Thief on Tinkaton without Pickpocket activating (it's also to absorb opposing tspikes). It also allows Koffing to burn Naclstack with Will-O-Wisp or poison it with Sludge Bomb right?.

mention the team archetypes that koffing works best on. A Ghost-type partner such as Misdreavus or Drakloak is essential to block spinners like Quaxwell and Wartortle. Beyond that, Koffing's best defensive trait is that it walls common Grass-types like Servine, Ivysaur and especially Thwackey. Therefore, wallbreakers that can make immediate progress but let those in for free like Piloswine, Wartortle and Setup Misdreavus are all most appreciative of Koffing's defensive backbone. Lastly, bulkier wincons like Duosion and Vigoroth both really appreciate Toxic Spikes passive damage as it eases setup and makes them even harder to keep checked. mention partners that can take on girafarig, hatt, duosion since it comes in relatively easily and threatens for big damage. i would also help for most mons that threaten it on the special side sliggoo, frog, wart, etc

While it renders Koffing even more passive against Steel-types, Toxic is great at making progress and preferable against Facade Vigoroth and Special Attackers.

**Night Shade Users:** Misdreavus, Drakloak and Clefairy all trade into Koffing very efficiently with Night Shade due to its low HP stat.

**Status Absorbers**: Facade Vigoroth and Pain Split Misdreavus are both very content to take a Will-O-Wisp or Sludge Bomb poison as they minorly benefit from those status effects and love being shielded from paralysis.

Flamethrower gives a more direct way to punish Steel-type switchins. Neutralizing Gas is essential to be able to use Thief on Tinkaton Tinkatuff without Pickpocket activating. It also allows Koffing to induce status effects on Naclstack I kind of want to restructure the last paragraph to include more ability-reliant Pokemon, as Neutralizing Gas is quite good against defensive pokes like Clefairy. Tinkatuff is a good mention, but Naclstack is extremely hard to fit on a team. I'd use examples like Clefairy or Hattrem that Koffing can exploit.

Koffing fits best on slower balance or stall archetypes that create longer games need more long-term answers to threats like Thwackey and get more value from Toxic Spikes incremental damage. While Levitate allow Koffing to wall offensive Ground-types like Gabite, it comes at the cost of Koffing's critically important ability to absorb opposing Toxic Spikes as a grounded Poison-type and negating crucial abilities from the Pokemon mentioned above; see the first paragraph of set comments. Toxic is great at making progress and preferable against Facade Vigoroth and Special Attackers, but it renders Koffing even more passive against Steel-types.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Girafarig and Duosion are both extremely immediately threatening to Koffing and can potentially sweep if given free turns to setup. Duosion is particularly fearsome as it is unaffected by all the passive damage that Koffing spreads with Magic Guard. I'd also like to include Hattrem for having Nuzzle and healing Poison damage with RestTalk.

**Steel-types**: Tinkatuff and Hisuian Sliggoo both wall Koffing and are not immediately deterred by Will-O-Wisp, freely able to set Stealth Rock or start breaking, respectively. Minor but I feel Steel-types section should go above Psychic-types; Koffing can't even poison them as well

**Night Shade Users:** Misdreavus, Drakloak and Clefairy all trade into Koffing very efficiently with Night Shade due to its low HP stat. I wouldn't include Clefairy as it gets worn down very quickly by Poison because of Neutralizing Gas; I'd just mention Ghost-types and emphasize the former's Taunt denying recovery and the latter overwhelming it with status + hex; Specs Drakloak also threatens immense damage on Koffing. Optional, but you could mention the rare Lampent being immune to Wisp and being similarly threatening.

**Status Absorbers**: Facade Vigoroth and Pain Split Misdreavus are both very content to take a Will-O-Wisp or Sludge Bomb poison as they minorly benefit from those status effects and love being shielded from paralysis.
I'd like to include special attackers as its special bulk is quite low; Pikachu and Frogadier threaten a lot of damage on it as well even if they can't switch into it
