[SET]
Defensive (Kommo-o) @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 168 SpD / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Body Press
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock / Protect
- Earthquake
[SET COMMENTS]
Defensive Kommo-o functions as a durable mixed wall and utility support Pokémon that leverages its excellent typing and respectable bulk to check a variety of threats like Mega Charizard-Y, Ogerpon-W, and Heatran. Kommo-o is also a solid Stealth Rock setter, capable of pressuring common Pokemon carrying entry hazard removal like Terapagos and Tornadus-T with Body Press or Toxic. Toxic cripples switch-ins such as Landorus-T, Moltres, and Zapdos, and punishes setup sweepers like Volcarona. Protect is an option for scouting opponents and gaining Leftovers recovery, while it also synergizes well with Toxic to rack up passive damage against foes like Zamazenta and Garchomp. Earthquake acts as a coverage option against Pokemon that aren't threatened by Body Press, namely Gholdengo, Tapu Koko, and Toxapex. 32 Defense EVs with an Impish nature let Kommo-o take Mega Lopunny's Close Combat twice from full HP after Stealth Rock, while the Special Defense and HP EVs allow Kommo-o to to best check special attackers like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona.
Kommo-o fits well on bulky offense or balanced teams, as it has limited longevity but provides these teams with much needed role compression in checking Heatran, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard-Y while also setting up Stealth Rock. Pokemon that dislike these threats like Gholdengo, Kartana, and Mega Scizor appreciate Kommo-o's presence. Gholdengo is a particularly solid teammate, as it can block hazard removal attempts from Terapagos and Tornadus-T. This support is valuable because Kommo-o’s limited longevity makes it difficult for it to reliably set up hazards in longer games. Setup sweepers like Volcarona and Iron Valiant benefit from Kommo-o’s Stealth Rock support and the chip damage it inflicts, making it easier for them to break through opposing teams. Knock Off users like Kingambit and Roaring Moon can remove Heavy-Duty Boots from Pokémon such as Zapdos, Moltres, and Terapagos, allowing Kommo-o's hazards to wear them down more effectively. Kommo-o struggles against Fairy-types like Iron Valiant and Tapu Lele, so it appreciates teammates such as Galarian Slowking, Gholdengo, and Heatran that can reliably check these threats. Fast revenge killers like Zamazenta and Tapu Koko pair well with Kommo-o by eliminating speedy threats it struggles with, such as Mega Diancie, while Kommo-o offers a dependable switch-in to powerful attackers like Volcarona in return.
