I wanted to share with you a new original team with a Trick Room setter Slowking that got lost in a Bulky Offense team. I came across a low-ladder set that used a Slowking-Galar Laging Tail with Trick Room and Chily Reception
and I thought it was a really cool idea. So I wanted to integrate it into a team and surround it with Iron Hands.
Iron Hands @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Ice Punch
Iron Hands will be the one who benefits the most from Slowking's presence, because his biggest weakness is his speed and thanks to Trick Room, he can turn it to his advantage.
With the Energy Booster that increases his attack, he becomes a powerful breaker and can use Swords Dance to do even more damage.
Since we play him with the least speed possible, it gives us the opportunity to maximize his EVs in special defense to make him more bulky and therefore difficult to revenge kill.
Also the team really appreciates its Fighting-type to handle Dark-type Pokémon.
Slowking @ Lagging Tail
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Chilly Reception
- Trick
- Scald
Let me cook! With Lagging Tail, Slowking will always attack last, even under the Trick Room, and so it allows you to send a Pokémon to the field for free thanks to Chilly Reception.
With Trick, he can punish Pokémon that would like to set-up on him by giving them the Lagging Tail item, which will make them act last, regardless of their speed (except for priority moves).
His single attack is Scald to inflict damage and potentially burn.
With his good bulk and the appearance in the meta of Pokémon like Keldeo, I think Slowking has its place as a good defensive pivot that resist Water.
Skeledirge @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Torch Song
- Slack Off
- Shadow Ball
- Encore
We don't see him too much in the meta anymore since the ban of Volcarona but he's still super strong against Fairy-types Pokémon. And here I wanted to put him in the team because he takes advantage of the holes that Iron Hands can make to be able to sweep at the end of the game.
As the Pokémon isn't annoying enough, I added it in his moveset the Encore attack. On a Pokémon with such little speed it may seem silly, but Skeledirge also benefits from the Trick Room!
Since I took Will-O-Wisp away, Shadow Ball becomes the better move over Hex. I'm hesitating to play it max Atk Spe so that the Shadow Ball spam is going wild but I haven't decided yet so I left a classic spread with a Tera Fairy to be very hard to revenge kill.
Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 8 HP / 240 Atk / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Tera Blast
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
The Trick Room is not unlimited and therefore the team needs speed to revenge kill, which is why I called on Landorus-T Choice Scarf.
Tera Flying rather than Tera Ice because I want to keep an immunity to the Ground type and I threaten Ogerpon-W.
It's one more pivot for the team and he has the quality to be useful defensively.
Cinderace (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 224 HP / 32 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pyro Ball
- U-turn
- Court Change
- Will-O-Wisp
I'm a Cinderace enjoyer! I like to play him in my teams so that I can avoid playing Great Tusk and be able to be more creative in building my teams.
Here I play him with his bulky set with Will-O-Wisp. He's becoming really clutch to help the team better manage the physical threats of the tier especially after Iron Hands lost some HP.
I also needed him to help Slowking pivot several times during the game because he doesn't have the boots and can be weak against stack-hazards teams.
Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Rest
- Ruination
- Sleep Talk
Slowking is not enough to counter all special attackers so I needed Ting-Lu on the team to do the job.
I really like to use this set in combination with Cinderace because it avoids anti-synergies when you want to Court Change.
Although the team would appreciate the support of the rocks, you can still benefit from them if the opponent puts them down and you manage to Court Change them. And for the time being, the opponent has every reason to put them on the field since it's strong against Landorus-T and especially Skeledirge!
