Yo, whats up Smogon . It's been a while since last time I decided to post a team I created here, the main reason is because I only do this when I really like a squad and personally the meta post cobalion wasn't for me . Now that mega lix is away from the tier ( good god I hate that thing never come back ) I decided to give RU another shot before GSlam .
The team I am sharing today is a pretty fun one which features the forgotten threat sub bulk up braviary ( a mon that specially shines in this meta post lix and tyrantrum ban ) and some other cool mons like Aurorus or Xatu that give the first the right support. I'm done with the presentation so lets start with the teambuilding process
I started with the the core formed by Braviary Sub Bulk up and Dugtrio. While the first one can sweep unprepared teams if our rival lets it set up the second one helps removing Braviary's 'counters' ( Rhyperior and Diancie basically )
The next pokémon I added was virizion. The SD set is deadly in this meta and I wanted a set up mon that could break alomomomo + registeel cores so who would be better than Virizion for this role ? Also I love this mon :)
I really wanted to build a team with these three mons but I gotta admit that finding 3 more partners to this core was such a difficult thing. First at all I wanted to have a stealth rock user who could check braviary so I threw Rhyperior there
, the problem with rhyperior is that is such a momentum killer and I really disliked this but at the the time who else could check braviary while also being able to set up SR ? After a long search I found the god himself, Aurorus
.
At this points as you can see the team was really stealth rocks weak so I needed a way to keep hazards away. Flygon
was the first mon that came to my mind due to how good it is as a defoguer but I wasn't confortable with only one mon having the responsability to prevent hazards so I decided to test Xatu
. Nowadays in the RU tier the SR users are kinda passive ( bronzong, registeel, seismitoad ). This type of pokemon do not threaten xatu at all, the bird can practically switch in on them every time and stop the hazards from going up.
After Xatu came to the squad I realised I wanted something to stop physical threats in general while also having a good synergy with the rest of the team. Having access to rapid spin and intimidate were the main reasons why Hitmontop join the crew
THE TEAM IN DEPTH :
Braviary @ Leftovers
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP / 168 SpD / 88 Spe
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Bulk Up
- Roost
- Brave Bird
The star of the team. It's incredible the number of pokémon that are set up fodder for braviary : Alomomola, Registeel, Seismitoad, Slowking, Aromatisse, Bronzong, Tangrowth ... On the other hand if you think of mons that fully stop this Braviary set I only would say Rhyperior, Diancie, Aggron and more or less Spiritomb and Golbat ( not at all but kinda 'check' it ) While I love using this thing it makes me build all my squads having always the concerned to have a safe way to stop a sweep from the bird . Obviously fast electric types like Jolteon or Rotom-C, Sneasel and some Choice Scarf users are offensives checks but none of them can switch on a Brave Bird.
Dugtrio @ Life Orb
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
- Sucker Punch
- Substitute
As you can judge all Braviary counters are easily trapped by Dugtrio, this is what makes duggy the perfect partner for the bird. The set is pretty simple, I prefer LO over CB because being able to switch moves is appreciated while also having the capacity to use substitute on Houndoom's sucker punch and kill it the turn after.
Virizion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Leaf Blade
- Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance
Virizion is a top tier threat in the current RU metagame. A nice speed tier combined with a really good coverage make Virizion a hard pokemon to counter. Pokemon like Weezing, Garbodor or Vileplume that can stop Viri if it carries Stone Edge are punished by Zen Headbutt, while others like Rotom-Fan or Sigyliph lose to SE variants. The easiest way to stop a Virizion sweep is by revenge killing it with faster pokemon like Dugtrio or Sneasel, if you dont have something that outspeeds this thing you are in trouble.
Aurorus @ Focus Sash
Ability: Refrigerate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Freeze-Dry
- Stealth Rock
- Dark Pulse
I gotta say I love this mon. When you are looking for a stealth user in RU Aurorus isn't the first thing that will come to your mind but as I said in the teambuilding process the dinosaur covers perfectly his role on the team. It checks Braviary while not being a momemtum killer. Also there are few pokemon that will appreciate switch into a Hyper Voice from this thing. Freeze-Dry for coverage and Dark Pulse hits Bronzong a common switch to Aurorus. Encore is an option as last slot if you dont care about zong.
Xatu @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 116 Def / 144 Spe
Timid Nature
- Night Shade
- U-turn
- Roost
- Psyshock
Another rare pokémon in the RU metagame. All of us know what Xatu does. Braviary and Aurorus really dislike SR so I needed a safe way to keep hazards away from them, Xatu fits this role as well as being our answer to fighting types like Hitmonlee or Medicham. Not a counter at all but this is an offensive team. The spread enables Xatu to outspeed Adamant Hitmonlee and kill it with Psyshock. Colbur berry is the item choice allowing Xatu to tank a first dark type move better ( basically Knock off yeah ) Night Shade is needed to beat 1vs1 things pokemon like Registeel or Bronzong.
Hitmontop @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Close Combat
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin
- Pursuit
Last but not least, Hitmontop, the glue of the team. Hitmontop's access to both Intimidate and rapid spin make it the perfect last mon for the squad. Hitmontop helps checking strong physical threats like Glalie, Virizion or Sneasel. The set it the standard one, as the 4th move I prefer pursuit over foresight but both of them are very situational. Pursuit can help in same cases while Foresight is an option is you are really paranoid about hazards. Mach up is good option too.
So this is the team. I always forget to save replays so I dont have many ( tbf I only have one xd, my RU Grand Slam Round 1 match : http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-ru-179080 ) . At first I didn't want to make this RMT until I got eliminated from the RU Open but then I thought that now many people are looking for teams in order to play their matches so it will be cool to see some games with this squad if someone decides to use it haha. Hope you all liked the team and obviously feel free to use it !
I have done others RMT's that you may want to check. Teams are outdated tho :|
