Legends of the Trade (OU)

Hello Pokemon battling peoples! I'm new to Smogon and this is probably my first post here so bear with me. I'm pretty decent battler but my teams haven't been that well organized and I thought this would be of some help. So here it is!

The Lead
uxie.png

“The Trickster”

Name: Uxie

Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Impish
EV: 252 HP/104 DEF/152 SPE

Moveset: Trick/ U-Turn/ Stealth Rock/ Thunder Wave

I put Uxie on my team as my lead because I had gone up against it in the past and the "Trick" set destroyed the hell out of my Meta lead. Plus I can switch into this whenever I need a strong dual wall with not many weaknesses that are common in OU (other than Shadow Ball and U-turn etc...) Uxie can take a variety of hits from almost anything in OU and not get OHKO’ed. A CB Scizor U-Turn only does about 71.8% - 84.7%.
And a CB Weavile only does 66.7% - 79.7% with Night Slash. Making this a good fallback if my other wall falls in battle.

Lead Matches:

-Aerodactyl: Trick since I know I’m faster with the Scarf and then they use Taunt/SR then possible free SR set up if they don’t taunt then T-Wave then U-turn.

-Azelf: Same as above ^^

-Heatran: ^^

-Hippowdon: Get in the trick and then the SR if not roared follow from there

-Mamoswine: If they’re stupid enough to try and attack then they get tricked into that attack, then SR, they switch, U-Turn, follow

-Metagross: Trick, if they SR then they switch and I get free set up, if they MM then I get up SR and U-Turn the hell out of there since a Lead Metagross could do 35% - 41.5% in one MM and I need Uxie’s bulk for taking latter hits.

-Ninjask: Funny

-Smeargle: U-Turn and let Rachi take the Sleep switch back in to SR

-Swampert: Trick, SR, etc…

-Tyranitar: U-Turn into Rachi, use SR latter

CM Stall
jirachi.png

“The Nightmare”

Name: Jirachi
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Timid
EV: 252 HP/100 SPA/156 DEF

Moveset: Calm Mind/ Substitute/ Psychic/ Thunderbolt

I put Jirachi on my team because I have also fell victim to this kind of set and it really couldn't be stopped by anything I had and the other player made a HUGE comeback on me. Plus Jirachi has a lot of Resistances I need for the rest of my team. With the Lum Berry I can take T-Wave Burn or Sleep and not have to worry about lacks in power or having to switch. You might wonder how I would set up multiple CM’s without loosing a good chunk of HP. Well it’s because my Rachi is almost all Defense, and from a CB Tyranitar only takes 67.3% - 79.2% from an Earthquake. And after maxing out his Spa with CM, Jirachi does 31.7% - 37.4% damage to a Max HP/Max SpD Calm Blissey. Plus with it’s good typing like I mentioned earlier it can be sent in on almost anything since it has a Lum Berry, set up and sweep.

Special Sweeper
azelf.png

“The Unstoppable”

Name: Azelf
Item: Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EV: 252 SpA/4 SpD/252 Spe

Moveset: Psychic/ Flamethrower/ Grass Knot/ Nasty Plot

I put this beast on my team because I felt like I needed a set up sweeper early on in the match to sort of tilt the match in my favor since it takes out most things in OU in 1 or 2 hits after one Nasty Plot.
Examples:

- Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Dusknoir - 98% - 115.3% (OHKO with Stealth Rocks)
- Grass Knot vs. 252 HP / 104 SpD Hippowdon - 180% - 211.9% (guaranteed OHKO)
- Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Celebi - 93.1% - 109.9%
- Psychic vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Snorlax - 59.9% - 70.5%
- Grass Knot vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Suicune - 98% - 115.8%

This guy can take hits pretty nicely as well so I can set up on something slower than it is and then proceed with sweeping. Since it has the same type as my lead and my wall I will have to rely on Metagross and Jirachi a lot to save them from Dark and Bug attacks.

Physical Sweeper
Arkeis-Metagross%5B1%5D.png

"Big Shot"

Name: Metagross
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Adamant
EV: 60 HP/252 Atk/196 Spe

Moveset: Agility/ Meteor Mash/ Thunder Punch/ Earthquake

Here is where the heavy duty physical sweeper comes in. Set up an Agility and watch the opponent’s team go bye-bye! I choose T-punch instead of Zen Headbutt because although the STAB boost would have been nice, T-punch takes out bigger threats like Skarmory or Bulky Gyarados and without Metagross a Gyarados would be kind of a problem for me. Although I have another double type situation I feel it is somewhat necessary to have two Steel/Psychic types since I have three purely Psychic types, and they need the coverage of Metagross and Jirachi behind them. And both Metagross and Jirachi are very bulky so they can both take hits then set up somewhat safely. I followed the Strategy Pokedex for the EVs on this Poke.

Revenge Killer
461df7.png

"The Punisher"

Name: Weavile
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Jolly
EV: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe

Moveset: Pursuit/ Ice Punch/ Night Slash/ Low Kick

I tried Weavile as a Revenge killer because a friend suggested him to me. I used him in some matches and he fit in really nicely with my teams and worked better for me then Scizor did, since Weavile’s so much faster. I have a CB on it Because I think it works better than CS since Weavile is so freaking fast, plus it sort of needed the attack boost.
Here are some examples of what this guy can do:

- Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 148 Def Cressilia - 50% - 59.5%
- Low Kick vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Cloyster - 55.3% - 65.1%
- Low Kick vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Heatran - 73.1% - 86%
- Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 152 Def Hippowdon - 57.1% - 67.6%
- Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Suicune - 26.2% - 31.2%

So among the fact that it is a good revenge killer it can also be used for bait on my team. Send it out then on the Ground/Fighting move switch to either Cressilia Azelf or Uxie! Although it’s no that bulky it still works cause of it’s amazing speed.

The Wall
cresselia.png

"Her Majesty"

Name: Cresselia
Item: Lum Berry
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Calm
EV: 252 HP/ 252 Def

Moveset: Reflect/ Light Screen/ Thunder Wave/ Lunar Dance

This is basically what I would put up before my Jirachi, Azelf, or Metagross so they would have an easy time setting up and sweeping the hell out of the opponent. Since it's so bulky it sets the screens very well and can possibly T-Wave whatever’s in to gain more of an advantage. I really like the use of Cressilia and I don’t know why people don’t use it more often, it’s one of the best Dual Screens in the game among other things and can’t be KO’d naturally by anything. On a bait I can switch into this from Weavile, Wall it up, T-Wave then switch or Lunar Dance (depending on the circumstances) and setup with one of my pokes pretty easily and let them tear up the opponents team!

This team may be lacking some synergy but I think it’s pretty good all around, my record with it is 7 wins 3 loses out of 10 matches played so give me some feedback thanks!

And if you want me to rate your team just drop a PM ;D

    Stall
One of the most common habits of team-building that I've seen among newer users is the practice of stocking a team with a lot of individual hard-hitting sweepers. This can sometimes work well against opposing offensive teams, as you can occasionally beat them with brute force. However, it also has the unfortunate side effect of leaving you very vulnerable to stall teams, which can be very difficult for you to break through.

This happens to be the case with your team currently. The combination of Dual Screens and stat-up sweepers can put a lot of pressure against less defensive teams, but stall teams do not rely on taking you down with direct damage. Instead, they will abuse entry hazards and phazing strategies, which will wear down your Pokemon with residual damage and waste your turns of screens. Your team happens to have little insurance against this style of play, as every member of your team can be walled quite easily. The most effective Pokemon you have against stall is Jirachi, since it at least cannot be walled easily by Blissey, but keep in mind that Hippowdon, a very common member of stall teams, can switch into it easily to check it.

Suggestions

It's rather difficult for me to suggest changes that wouldn't drastically alter the structure of your team. One thing I want to say, however, is that you should aim for each team member to support another in some way. For example, you have some trouble getting through SkarmBliss cores, especially when they are combined with additional defensive Pokemon. However, if you can manage to take down just one crucial opposing wall, you can likely open up an opportunity for a sweep from one of your own team members. There is a variety of ways that this can be accomplished, but one of the most effective methods involves the use of luring. Try to use Pokemon that lure in counters or checks to some of your other team members, but possess a means of defeating them. In this case, Azelf is a potent attacker, but is walled by Blissey, so using a special attacker with Explosion such as Heatran could help remove one of its counters. Unfortunately, at this point I'm unsure of the direction that you want to take with your team, but keep some of the points that I've made in mind and feel free to let me know if you decide to update your team so that I can provide a more "concrete" rate.

Thank you for the feedback as I know you are an expert rater

You are right about the Skarm Bliss combo, it does unexplainable rape to my team, and even when I get the best predictions and the best setups it still walled-out my team and won without much trouble.

Although, if Blissey is alone then I can switch in setup with Metagross and Sweep, and vice versa with Skarm/Azelf. But when they or another SpD Def combo are up then I have some trouble

Thanks for the critque! I will hopefully get an update in soon. :)

The one thing I'm seeing is that a +1/+1 DDTar with Crunch will DESTROY your team. What with, like, FIVE pyschic types, once Weavile is out of the picture. Easily accomplished with Dugtrio. Speaking of which, Sucker Punchers can do a number on you. I, personally, reccomend putting a Gallade on your team, with Choice Scarf, to replace 'vile. Not only does he have better coverage, he gets STAB on the darks, and takes neutral damage from Dark.

Well my Jirachi has pretty good handling against Tyranitar if you look at the calculations, and after one Agility my Metagross picks off Tyranitar easily. As does Weavile if hes still in.
