Let's go Platinum like Fall Out Boy. [Doubles]

First off, allow me to clarify: I do like Fall Out Boy but their new music is horrible. Take This To Your Grave is where it's at! Anyway, this team is very unorthodox for me; it is a Gravity team based entirely on theorymon. I will use this team primarily for PBR random doubles matches. Also, if you didn't get the reference, the title of this RMT is meant to say that this team has some Platinum Move Tutor moves.

Persian @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
Jolly nature
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
- Fake Out
- U-Turn
- Hypnosis
- Bite

Like every other team I have, there's at least one Fake Out user and Persian is it on this team. With Technician and Life Orb, Fake Out and Bite both have 117 BP. With Persian's great speed, U-Turn can be used to get damage in and switch to another Pokemon, such as Shedinja who resists Persian's weakness. Once Gravity is set up, Hypnosis becomes a reliable move with 116.7% accuracy.

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Impish nature
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
- Imprison
- Gravity
- Shadow Sneak
- Protect

Either Dusknoir or Clefable will be the Gravity lead, depending upon the opposing team's line-up. After testing Dusknoir online I realized that he is too slow to make the Choice Scarf-Trick strategy work well. I also realized that opponents overuse Protect and that wastes Gravity turns. So I am instead using a modified version of PokemonBattleBrain's Dusknoir from his Perish Song team. Imprison prevents usage of Protect while he's out and Shadow Sneak is for priority.

dpmfa292.png

Shedinja @ Focus Sash
Ability: Wonderguard
Adamant nature
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
- Sunny Day
- X-Scissor
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak

I hate Shedinja on opposing teams. They always trip me up and I hate it, so I've decided to give them a taste of their own medicine. It is the perfect switch-in Pokemon to avoid attacks. Focus Sash gives it a second chance of surviving if it is hit and Sunny Day is to fuck up weather team's strategies. If there is hail or a sandstorm on the field, Sunny Day will stop Shedinja from being buffeted and will halve water damage aimed at Nidoking! X-Scissor and Shadow Sneak are just STAB'd moves while Will-O-Wisp can incapacitate physical attackers.

dpmfa034.png

Nidoking @ Life Orb/Choice Scarf
Ability: Poison Point
Hasty nature
EVs: 168 Atk/168 SpA/172 Spd
- Megahorn
- Earthquake
- Blizzard
- Earth Power

Marowak originally held this place but after much consideration, I have decided that Nidoking would better suite this role. Yes, I purposefully gave him two ground attacks: Earthquake is to be used for massive damage against all opponents, so long as Shedinja is out, and Earth Power is to hit one at a time. Blizzard and Megahorn are meant to take advantage of the evasion modifiers and for type coverage.

dpmfa055.png

Golduck @ Life Orb
Ability: Cloud Nine
Quirky nature
EVs: 104 Atk/252 SpA/152 Spd
- Hydro Pump
- Blizzard
- Cross Chop
- Hypnosis

This Golduck is a Mixed Attacker set without a nature that changes its stats. I want the duck to be well rounded while on the field. Cloud Nine is a key part of my strategy: it will stop any weather-dependent teams dead in their tracks. In a way Golduck is the anti-strategy Pokemon of the team. With Gravity in play, all of Golduck's moves have above perfect accuracy making him a powerhouse and Hypnosis is to completely stop foes.

dpmfa036.png

Clefable @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
Quirky nature
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spd
- Gravity
- Facade
- Follow Me
- Fire Blast

Clefable is most certainly a wild card in the world of Pokemon; one never knows what to expect. If Clefable is a lead, it will first use Gravity (or if it runs out of turns) to start the strategy. After turn one, Toxic Orb kicks in to both give a status (so others cannot) and to double Facade's power to 140 BP and, with a STAB, up to a stellar 210 BP! Also, with Magic Guard, the passive damage of poison is nullified. Fire Blast is to help against steel types which seem to wall the team. Follow Me is just the ideal move to protect Nidoking while the two are in play.

Possible (useful) combinations:
  • Persian and Dusknoir - the goal is to incapacitate the opponents and set up.
  • Persian and Clefable - Persian Fake Outs an opponent to allow the set up.
  • Shedinja and Nidoking - Allows Nidoking to spam Earthquakes and hit everything but its partner and to halve water damage using Sunny Day.
  • Shedinja and Golduck - Shedinja uses Sunny Day to stop hail and sandstorms while Golduck's ability negates any sunshine abusers and allows Hydro Pump to perform at its normal level.
  • Nidoking and Clefable - Clefable protects Nidoking using Follow Me.
So that's my Gravity team. It's a completely original product of my mind, I swear. I don't think I have ever seen a true Gravity team so I decided to create one. Please help me make this team better! It's all theorymon so I will gladly accept any suggestions.

I am assuming that because I posted so late last night that no one who is into Doubles saw the thread...but I would really appreciate some help.

Looking over the team has made me uncomfortable with the movesets of Dusknoir and Clefable. Each have necessary moves, but some of the "fillers" may be pointless; I really want the most efficient movesets.

Also, any comments on the overall strategy would be amazing. I need any help I can get.

*By the way, I just replaced Marowak with Nidoking. Kinda important....

I'm not sure to say with this team, I think it one of those where to have try it out to figure out things to change or things to keep. One thing may be to change Dusknoir's EV spread to have more attack and go with Earthquake and Thunderpunch instead to abuse EQ's Gravity power.

You also might have trouble with opposing Bronzong with this team, so consider putting Fire Blast on Clefable instead of Light Screen or Follow me if you weren't sure on the effectiveness of the sets.

You know, I think you are absolutely right. I do need to actually test the team to see what works and what doesn't.
And abusing Earthquake with Gravity seems like the perfect combination! That was the reason I wanted to attempt such a project as a team revolving around Gravity. However, it hurts everyone (save Shedinja) and that is not the goal I was striving for.

With Nidoking and Golduck, along with Gravity, I shouldn't have any problem with Bronzong. Besides, Clefable is assigned a role as a physical attacker/support so Fire Blast would be a big "no" on its part. I will continue looking into possibilities though.

...I do need to test the team.

I suppose, if you're worried about EQ hurting your team, that Reflect would help you out, perhaps over Light Screen on Clefable.

I'm really curious as to why you replaced Marowak with Nidoking. Could you explain?

Hmm. I'll try Reflect out. It may prove very useful.

Marowak is a beast with his attack power, but I thought that Nidoking could do a similar job with more coverage and is faster. He does come with more weaknesses, which typically come in the form of special attacks, and thus the reason why Clefable has Light Screen instead of Reflect.

So I've built the team on my game and have recently tested it online. I realized that the team is walled by steel types and becomes less effective in the presence of Protect. I have updated the team to help combat against these problems.

I would like to say thank you to PokemonBattleBrain for the idea behind the new Dusknoir set and to Gymdude for the Fire Blast suggestion on Clefable.

Please evaluate the changes and help in any way! :]
