OVERVIEW
My previous team wasn't working as well as I'd like, so I decided to remake the team keeping the same play style. The team is centered around Salamence. The rest of the team is designed to wear down or eliminate threats to the team. The defensive core of Jirachi and Skarmory aim to set up hazards and wall opponents and Jirachi also cripples opponents with paralysis. Magnezone traps and kills steels such as Ferro, Skarmory, Jirachi and Scizor which will hinder Salamence's sweep. Starmie provides coverage and kills Landorus-T and Gliscor. Latios eliminates fast scarfers such as Keldeo, Terrakion and Garchomp that threaten Salamence. The team has synergy, but the defensive pokemon are weak to fire and the resists aren't exactly... defensive.
Wish Maker (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SDef / 16 Spd
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Stealth Rock
- Body Slam
- Iron Head
- U-turn
Jirachi is my special wall. Jirachi sets up stealth rock to break Sash, Sturdy, multiscale and kills pests like Volcarona. Body Slam will paralyse threats to Salamence. U-turn keeps momentum and also pivot and paired up with Magnezone has volt-turn. Considering a wish set to help the offense do their thing. Jirachi also somewhat takes care of Rotom-W, which is annoying as I try to preserve Salamence.
Skarmory @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Def / 32 SDef
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Drill Peck
Skarmory's job is simply to set up spike, act as a physical wall and rack up a bit of damage while phasing. Drill peck is used over brave bird as I prefer to keep my sturdy and I need a check to Toxicroak, which can sucker punch the hell outta this team. Main problem is it's horrible weakness to special electric and fire attacks. Also counters stall breakers.
Trapper (Magnezone) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 108 HP / 252 SAtk / 148 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Magnezone traps steels and eliminates them to aid Salamence's sweep. I've invested a fair bit of EVs into speed as they allow assurance to kill Scizors, opposing Magnezones and Tyrantitars without being killed itself. Specs allows more damage and reassurance. Volt switch allow it to function as a pivot like Jirachi and makes a great volt-turn combo to allow me to always have the perfect check.
Pulsar (Starmie) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
Starmie's job is to eliminate Gliscor and other threats with it's coverage and speed. It's also an excellent rapid spinner and it's speed allows me to guarantee removal of hazards after the setters are gone. Main problem is it's frailty and weakness to pursuits in attempts to revenge kill.
Draco (Latios) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Dragon Pulse
Latios is the check to fast scarfers. Latios is capable of OHKOing all later game sweepers and has the speed to pull it off. Draco meteor is the main attack, switching to something else more well-suited to the situation if needed. Surf checks Gliscor and other ground types that threaten the steels.
Rage (Salamence) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
Salamence is the late game sweeper. After the steels and ice sharders are gone, Outrage can pretty much destroy everything, or dragon claw if it's more reliable. Earthquake and fire blast are for coverage, but they're never used really.
Problems:
This team has a good synergy, but the fire resists aren't defensive at all and I prefer not to send out Salamence until late game. Both Starmie and Latios are weak to pursuit and it's difficult taking care of Tyranitar. Toxicroak is extremely difficult to deal with it's sucker punch. The team has barely any healing methods, so I'm thinking of wish on Rachi. Also, the team should have a spin blocker as it helps wear down opponents. Blissey is also hard to take care of without Salamence.
Importables:
