* Life Orb Porygon-Z uses its freedom of moves to launch powerful attacks, which are backed by Nasty Plot boosts or the defenses from Substitute.
* Hyper Beam is capable of OHKOing many Pokemon that do not resist it, such as non-Assault Vest Ursaluna, Raging Bolt, and non-Assault Vest Azumarill.
* Nasty Plot lets Porygon-Z threaten an OHKO versus opposing Pokemon that would be able to tank Porygon-Z's unboosted Hyper Beam and KO it back, such as Maranga Berry Corviknight and Clear Amulet Cresselia.
* Against Pokemon using the combination of Endure and Custap Berry that would be OHKOed by Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam, like Urshifu-S and Primarina, Porygon-Z can use Substitute when predicting Endure and fire off a Hyper Beam the next turn, while still being protected behind Substitute if Endure happens to work twice. However, it is advisable to be wary of Encore from Primarina.
* Uproar lets Porygon-Z hit foes behind Substitute, such as Serperior and Whimsicott. It also gives Porygon-Z another Normal-type STAB move when the recharge turn of Hyper Beam is undesirable.
* The Speed EVs help Porygon-Z outpace Modest Raging Bolt, and the HP and Defense EVs allow it to tank Choice Scarf Volcanion's Overheat and Jolly Ogerpon-W's Power Whip. The rest of the EVs are distributed into Special Attack.
* This Porygon-Z set can struggle against faster Pokemon that can OHKO it, such as Haxorus, Meowscarada, and Choice Scarf Regidrago, so teammates like Corviknight or Primarina that can handle these Pokemon are well-warranted.
* Like most Porygon-Z, Pokemon that can tank its Hyper Beam such as Steel-types like Hisuian Goodra, Assault Vest users like Ursaluna, and Ghost-types like Skeledirge are hard counters to it, so Pokemon like Choice Band Meowscarada and Urshifu-S are great partners for it.
