* The combination of Life Orb and Flame Charge allows Volcanion to consistently beat Iron Crown, chipping Weakness Policy sets into Overheat range and scouting against Assault Vest Metal Burst sets. Flame Charge is also useful against SubSeed users such as Ogerpon-W and Serperior.
* The defensive EVs allow it to survive Adamant Choice Band Meowscarada's Giga Impact and Timid Choice Specs Iron Valiant's Focus Blast. 232 Speed EVs let it outpace Ogerpon-W after a Flame Charge boost as well as fast Corviknight .
* Volcanion's powerful STAB combination hits prominent Steel and Fire-types such as Metagross and Volcarona.
* Sludge Wave is necessary Water-types with a dual typing such as Primarina and Ogerpon-W.
* Combined with its natural ability to check Fairy- and Fire- type Pokemon, a Volcanion set specialized for the most threatening Steel-types in the tier is most appreciated by Fairy-type Pokemon such as Alolan Ninetales and, in particular, Iron Valiant. (These two bullets have a weird flow. You mention that its typing and ability walls fairy types while its ability only walls one of them. I think its better to mention it as what sludge wave hits [fairies and wellspring], and the part about walling fairies is unneccesary)
