This is probably my first ever RMT I made here after a few weeks of theory crafting and stuff. I made this team before I joined the site but I have put this team to the test in Showdown and it has done some wonder (compared to my old teams). It’s still not perfect and I didn’t expect it to be but I wanted it to be a decent team to grow off of in the current meta with the available resources I have in the game i.e. pokemon that are only found in X/Y either through the friend park or around Kalos itself. This means no psudo-legendaries (like Thundurus)/pokemon from the previous games that don’t show up in X/Y (not until the bank comes out for everyone….and after I get/beat the previous pokemon games). I do want to ask people what to do to improve my team so what better way than to ask that here! The team fits the style of play I prefer in the game which is between balanced and defensive. Seems more defensive but I don’t know too much about what styles of teams are out there (again, new to the competitive scene). Here is how my team was processed:

Team Process:
I wanted a mega that can do heavy damage and be decent at being bulky. I was thinking Venusaur at first but after playing with Mawile (who isn’t that bulky at all when you look at it), I thought Scizor would be my pokemon to have my team revolve around. With the many resistances and one weakness Scizor has, Scizor is useful as a potential VoltTurn pokemon and a bulky swords dancer. Having a pokemon to fit two roles just feels right for me!

212.png

Now since Scizor needs a VoltTurn pokemon, Scizor will probably need someone that resists his weakness: Fire. Rotom pretty much fits in that requirement that I made earlier in this post. Rotom is a pretty fast pokemon with some decent bulk but can also inflict status on the enemies, which I like. :3

212.png
503.png

I will need another threat in the team that a late game sweeper or a revenge killer the team. Salamence does just that (from the top of my head). At first, I was thinking Chandelure because Chandelure can utilize flash fire and it will leave me a space open for not needing a Rapid Spinner in the team BUT there are certain threats I have recently experienced and that name is Heatran. It is a threat to the team and none of my pokemon can really counter it besides Salamence. Plus, the moxie boost gets people to bring out their Ice/fairy pokemon early on if I send in Mence early but I can switch to Scizor or Rotom to tank the damage and resume killing with Mence afterwards. >:3

EDIT: Went with Garchomp because Chomp is much faster than Mence, not as SR weak to mence and can offer less weaknesses than Mence (4x Ice, 2x Dragon/Fairy vs 4x Ice, 2x Dragon/Fairy/Rock)

212.png
503.png
450.png

With Mence on the team, I mentioned needing a Rapid Spinner. I’m not really good with this pokemon but I kinda think that Starmie fits the role since Starmie can resist Ice and Fire and can still dish out damage on the team. The moveset is still questionable to me because most of the time, I only used Starmie as a sacrifice for another pokemon to safely come in and it’s rare that I saw Starmie finishing a match. :s

EDIT: I really don't need much of a spinner but a bulky pokemon is probably needed to absorb some physical attackers. I kinda thought Mandibuzz for various reasons. One was that if I wanted to make my team "evolve", I was thinking of setting hazards (since I like inflicting statuses on the opponent...hazards are sorta similar). Instead, I thought it would be better to remove the hazards from my side instead to annoy the opponent a bit. Now, having a defog'er doesn't seem too much of a threat but a bulky Mandibuzz should pose some sort of threat to the opponent. I never tried Defog in a moveset so I wanted to give this a go. Plus the resistance to ghost is a plus since ghosts are appearing more and more. ._. Back then, I wanted to have Crobat as a Defogger but that turned out pretty bad but now having a decent defogger should be something new for me to learn. ;b

Next, I’ll probably need some support to keep the team alive. Despite the fact that having two pokemon that are meant for leading, adding a dual screener named Klefki in the team seems a bit weird but it has worked wonders in battles. Another is a wish passer and despite the fact that WishMence is a possibility, I would rather have Mence as a threat rather than support. That said, Sylveon fits that role and fulfills another role as a tank in the team. With pure fairy as a decent defensive type, Sylvy can wish pass or use wish as a healing move while attacking the opponent with the powerful SpA attacks.

EDIT: Pory2 will replace Klefki as a tank but not as a dual screener (as Pory2 is not effective as a dual screener). I like this duck, tried it in Showdown and it proved some good results. I'm currently learning on making use of Trace against the opponents in random battles (in the game, not Showdown). :3

Movesets:

Alright, next on the list are the moves of the team and how they synergize (or to my best extent how I try to make them synergize).

212.png

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - SpA)
252 HP, 216 SpD, 40 Atk
Team Role: Sweeper/Attacker

- Bullet Punch
- U-Turn
- Roost
- Sword Dance

This is my main character, the MVP of the team. This replaced my Mawile because it fit my playstyle more than what Mawile had to offer. It’s more bulky which means that it’s able to get a few sword dances much easily. Scizor has a move that allows him to heal. Also able to get momentum with U-Turn. The EV spread is pretty much your bulky sword dance spread. HP for both Def and SpD, SpD for more protection against SpA foes and Atk for some extra damage with Bullet Punch

503.png

Rotom-W @ Lum Berry/Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Bold (+Def, - Atk)
252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpA
Team Role: Momentum/Status

- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-o-Wisp
- Thunder Wave/Rest

If you are wondering why I have Rotom holding a Lum Berry, it is because pokemon like to use Willo or T-Wave on Scizor. That said, when I want to use U-Turn or switch to a pokemon, there are two options: Switch to Starmie and switch back or Switch to Rotom and counter with a status move. This is the latter option. I like this because this will get rid of a threat that could possible hurt Scizor and/or Salamence. If I want to go a more defensive approach, ChestoRest seems to be an alternative since I don’t like relying on Pain Split all the time. Also, Rotom is good VoltTurn partner. The Bold nature is to counter the pokemon that counter Scizor such as Talonflame. Hence, the EV spread is more catered to make Rotom more defensive than specially defensive.

233.png

Porygon2 @ Evolite
Ability: Trace
Nature: Bold (+ Def, - Atk)
252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpA
Team Role: Tank/Status

- Thunderbolt
- Icebeam (sorry if this hurts your eyes >.<)
- Toxic
- Recover

Klefki reminds me of Kefka despite the fairy type. Prankster. Wants to annoy the enemies in the worse way possible (but can’t poison a river). I don’t think Klefki I bred is like that. Instead, I made Klefki a DS user. The T-Wave in the moveset is probably deviating from the Analysis that was recently made but that is because I like inflicting statuses on the opponent. This gives an opportunity to get Salamence, Scizor and maybe Starmie the win in the late game.

Duck. Tanky Duck is fun! I want to say more about it but I just like how this duck played out in Showdown. Trace lets you use abilities against your opponent, Toxic allows you to stall the opponent and the attack coverage is pretty good! If I made Pory2 more offensive, I would of ran Shadow Ball/Tri Attack for more coverage and for neutral damage. o3o

660.png

Mandibuzz @ Sitrus Berry/Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
Nature: Impish (+ Def, - SpA)
252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Atk
Team Role: Defog/Support

- Foul Play
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Defog

Starmie is a weird one. I don’t know if Starmie fits my style or not but most of the time, when SR is not present or if all the pokemon that posses SR is gone, I usually use Starmie as a suicidal pokemon so that my next pokemon can safely switch in. Thing is, that’s not the only thing it can do. With Natural Cure, I am able to use Starmie as a status absorber, maybe play a bit of mind games with Starmie and then switch back and continue chipping away the opponents team. I am thinking of running a more offensive Starmie because being bulky and suicidal is not right. Better to get damage in and then suicide rather than take lots of hits and then faint. Then when I think about it, it will give me more chances to switch Starmie in if there are a lot of status-users in the team. This is probably my weakest link of the 6 pokemon. >.>

Madibuzz. There's not much for me to say but the fact that it's a bulky pokemon that has access to Defog. Now, Defog is prone to Taunt and that Rapid Spin is better. Thing is that I wanted to try something new and that I like a bulky hazard remover. ;b

sylveon.png

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Cute Charm/Pixilate
Nature: Bold (+ Def, - Atk)
252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpA
Team Role: Wish/Tank

- Moonblast/Hyper Voice (Technically normal but yeah)
- Shadow Ball/Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect

Oh boy, this pokemon is my favorite tank. With me not able to use the pokebank just yet, I’m stuck with my ShadowBlast combo on my current Sylveon but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t ignore the power Hyper Voice possesses. I’ve seen and had battles where Hyper Voice was really helpful on the team in an offensive presence. The Wish/Protect combo is self explanatory. The EVs for the pokemon is to even out the defenses that changes her to a decent tank.

450.png

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
Nature: Naïve (+ Spe, -SpD)
252 Atk, 4 SpA, 252 Spe
Team Role: Revenge/Sweep

- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast

Oh Salamence. You were once a scary threat in the previous games but now you lose your spot due to either having better pokemon fitting your roles or certain types of pokemon walling you and OHKO’ing you in a breeze. Yet, despite me changing pokemon that fits your role more, I still tend to find a way to sweep or scare people to sweep. With Moxie increasing the potential damage, the opponents will send out their own revengers/pokemon that could OHKO him and that is probably good enough to get me a switch. Sometimes, I could stay and get 2-3 defeated. Other times, I switch back to Scizor to resist/block the Ice/Dragon/Fairy damage. If it is a revenge killer, it makes it all the better why I have this Salamence/Scizor combo because Scizor force the switch out while I use the opportunity to either Roost or Sword Dance. The reason why I’m not using Outrage is 1) No pokebank and 2) Stone Edge seems to be a better option (despite the chance to hit) so I can hit flying types such as Togekiss or Talonflame.

EDIT: This is exactly the same set with the same nature, the same role, same moveset and the same item. Only difference is the pokemon. Not much to say here except that Garchomp is one fast land shark. xD
Final Thoughts:

I tried to replace Salamence and Starmie with other pokemon like Chandelure and Kingdra but that doesn’t seem to be good in all situations. For example, there was a point where I had Scizor and Chandelure left but that combo doesn’t seem to fit together when facing Heatran. Now, it could have been how I mispredicted in the match but I am not really sure if that is a better combo than Salamence and Starmie. I may be thinking of switching Starmie for Excadrill but the Fire/Water weakness along with a few others worries me a bit….

I might do a few battles in showdown at some point to see if this team is decent but the last time I used this team, I had a decent streak (6/10 matches were won). Not sure if this team needs work, if I need to work on my predictions or both because I feel there is something that needs change. Anyways, thank you for reading all this and I hope for this team to experience many changes and grow from there as I try to improve in this competitive game. ^^

I<ll have to agree with the demon. Garchomp would be better. You could put the swords dance on garchomp (dragon claw, poison jab, earthquake) to act as a second sweeper once scizor gets past majority of the physical walls together with rotom for skarm. Hyper voice is definately better as it can hit past substitutes (dem sableye and liepard) and also you could always appreciate a little extra power, since relying on cute charm hax is not effective. Restochesto rotom is always better. Also you could consider running leftovers on starmie if you want it to stay around and spin. As smeargle and galvantula are banished to ou, sticky web can always prove problematic if you choose garchomp over salamence.

I was actually referring to using Garchomp as a Choice Scarfer.
In my honest opinion, and this is from experience, not bias (my signature might give you the wrong idea), if you want to opt for a setup sweeper, use Weakness Policy Dragonite with Dragon Dance and Roost. But since Scizor is already serving the purpose of the setup sweeper, I'd recommend Scarf Garchomp.

Also, I noticed that your team doesn't have an answer for Azumarill. Personally, I'd replace Sylveon with a Modest Gengar. The reason for Modest is so that it guarantees an OHKO on 252HP/0SpD Azumarill with Sludge Wave. However, only use it as a revenge killer, as Aqua Jet will 2HKO standard Gengar.

as this team is more of the balanced type, i think that using porygon2 (252hp, 160def, 96+spdef) would be most benefitial. It keeps the same walling capabilities, bulk on both sides of the spectrum and can take hits from the aqua rabbit while 2hkoing with thunder bolt

Ducky (Porygon2) @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SDef
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Recover

This is the set i use

Thank you both for the responses! I wasn't able to reply earlier due to real life stuff but I had to reply at some point! ^^;

I actually utilize Sylveon for a wish passer/Cleric and/or a Support Attacker because I like having status on the opposing side but at the same time, I don't like status on my own team. If I were to run a pory2 on the team, then toxic/burn hinders the duck to be a duck tank. I could have Chomp utilize poison jab (and still be a scarf'er) but I don't know if that will help against an Azu with belly drum and a sitrus berry (252 Atk Garchomp Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 212-250 (52.4 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). :T

Duck is awesome! Despite my lack of experience in the competitive scene, I was able to pull off a 6/10 in my games in showdown. I was able to use trace for a lot of sweeps (I used protean against my opponent once~). I could switch Klefki with Pory2 but since I really don't need hazards, I may run Defog Mandibuzz over Starmie. I will edit the post later tonight about this idea of mine but I can't test it out in showdown just yet....

you could go for togetic and porygon 2
this is the togetic set i use (effectively in uu and ou)

Toby (Togetic) @ Eviolite
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Heal Bell
- Defog
- Roost
not to mention trolling dragons with eq and outrage as their only options!

I feel iffy on Togetic atm. Not because Togetic is bad but because I've been hesitant with having two pokemon that can be vulnerable to Knock Off (I mean Mandibuzz w/o leftovers isn't all that bad compared to the necessity of Togetic needing Knock Off). I'll give Togetic a shot in showdown but I kinda prefer Mandibuzz's stable defenses over the SpD Togetic has. :s

Edit: Not even sure if what I said made sense....then again, I'm like half asleep right now. xD

As this may be run as a more "balanced" team i think that scizor could also run defog over swords dance (252hp,252+atk,4spdef could be run instead) or maybe even roost. That way it can be possible to run Landorus-T over Mandibuzz providing stealth rock against the annoying talonflame and volcarona

a bulky Landorus T can easily check mmawile, mlucario, aegislash and act as a pivot

Landorus-T@ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
248 HP / 172 Def / 88 Spe
Naive Nature
~ Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake
~ U-turn
~ Hidden Power Ice

I think that running pixilate hyper voice and heal bell on sylveon will be better, as lots of toxics will be thrown at porygon2 (just gotta love switching in to dat gliscor)
