Hello, this is my first RMT, so please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong.
Anyways, I had been battling on Randbats for many weeks before I got bored and decided to return to OU battling. But first, I needed a team. I decided to use some of the many Pokemon I had found great in Randbats and see if things turned out well.
Surprisingly, they did, and I have been challenging the OU metagame for quite some time now with this team. Without further ado, here is my team:
This team combined some of my favorite from OU with the monsters I found in Randbats. This Team worked extremely well with each other, and I enjoyed success. So here are my members individually:
Lilligant (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Petal Dance
- Hidden Power [Rock]
The first thing that attracted me to Lilligant was the fact that it could spam STAB Petal Dance without fear of ending up on the wrong end of confusion hax. Petal dance and HP Rock compliment each other surprisingly well, with the only common counter I see being Heatran. Sleep Powder helps Lilligant set up, and Quiver Dance is awesome, especially if you get multiple boosts. However, Toxic and Paralysis wears Lilligant down extremely fast. The only thing I find irritating about this set is that for HP Rock is that you have to forfeit a Speed IV, but I'm nitpicking when I say that. For the item, Focus Sash guarantees at least one Quiver Dance unless hax is against you, and you get Statused.
Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spore
- Tail Glow
- Rapid Spin
- Baton Pass
I originally had a Conkeldurr in this spot, but I realized I needed to pass boosts to Porygon-Z more than i needed a physical attacker, so I swapped him for Smeargle here. Spore is standard, seen on almost every Smeargle set. Tail Glow raises your Sp.Attack by 3 stages, which is when Porygon-Z becomes devastating. Rapid Spin was for some additional support to keep my teams Focus Sash's intact, and Baton Pass is self-explanatory. Focus Sash is there in case the opponent has no hazards, so Smeargle gets a free Spore.
Porygon-Z @ Focus Sash
Ability: Download
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Agility
- Thunderbolt
- Tri Attack
- Ice Beam
I needed a fast sweeper to finish teams after lilligant was done crippling them. Download is there for luck, so Porygon-Z can get a boost to Sp.Atk. Porygon never comes in without a Tail Glow boost from smeargle, but that means risking an OHKO from an attacker, so Focus Sash is there for that. In case Porygon manages to switch in with Sash intact, he can use Agility to boost his speed. After that, its simply choosing the best move for the job. Thunderbolt is good in general and hits water types hard. Tri Attack gets STAB and the hax can be useful. Ice Beam is deadly, though it mostly covers the same things as thunderbolt so it can be switched out for Flamethrower.
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Power Whip/ Gyro Ball
I love entry hazards, and I love Pokemon with loads of resistances, so I love Ferrothorn. I always start the match by sending out Ferro, and using Stealth Rocks on the first turn. Assuming I survive, I use Leech Seed the second turn, and then set up three layers of spikes. If I'm still standing, I spam Power Whip and Leech Seed(if the opponent switches out), and just perfect the art of being an overall ass. Rocky Helmet+ Iron barbs is hilarious, especially since the opponent will be hitting Ferrothorn with Fighting type moves, which are mostly physical. In fact, if a Talonflame uses Flare Blitz on Ferrothorn, Despite being knocked out, the Talonflame will be brought into KO range. For these reasons, Ferrothorn is awesome.
Exeggutor @ Lum Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP/252 SpA/4 Def
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rest
- Giga Drain
- Psyshock
- Trick Room
I can see some people getting very confused at my serious consideration of Exeggutor on an OU team. However, I can justify this by saying Exeggutor has turned many games which i was sure i would lose into wins. This set, infact, makes for an awesome offensive tank. While many people use Sitrus Berry on Exeggutor, Lum Rest is my personal favourite strategy on this eggplant...thing. Rest is there for obvious reasons. Giga Drain is good STAB and my only source of healing if i get unlucky with Harvest. Psyshock is currently this teams best way of dealing with Special Walls like Blissey and Chansey. Trick Room is awesome in general and is OP on this Pokemon.
Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
Before people start telling me to make this a MegaZam, let me say that I personally think that while Mega-Evolutions are good, MegaZam is just not worth losing Magic Guard for. I think MegaZam is a missed opportunity and Regular Alakazam is a thousand times better. Now that I'm done ranting, let me begin my analysis of the final Pokemon on this team. HP Ice hits Dragons and Gliscor or Landorous hard. Focus Blast, while having shaky accuracy at the best, hits things like Heatran that otherwise wall this set to high heavens. Shadow Ball helps hit ghosts and is my favorite move for cleaning up after threats. Psychic gets STAB and is awesome in general.
