Livin' in the Sunlight, Dancin' in the Moonlight

Hello everyone. Before I discuss this team, I'd like to thank everyone who commented on my previous team, Lucario Destruction. The feedback was amazing and very helpful, and it convinced me to change some sets around. But this team, however is centered around Dragonite and Sunny Day Heatran wrecking havoc. Even when sunlight fades, Dragonite prefers the shield from residual damage, allowing me to keep Multiscale in tact.

The Team:

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Sunny Day
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- SolarBeam

I absolutely love Sunny Day Heatran. It is a huge threat that is commonly underrated. It gives me a buffer against other weather teams, and Dragonite and Heatran, together can wall Sun Teams anyway. The surprise value of the weather change and SolarBeam makes Bulky Waters think twice before switching in. I usually use Sunny Day after their weather starter is greatly weakened, or against a Clear Skies team, when I predict a bulky water. I attempted to make the Heatran Dragonite "core", kinda like a commonly used Mag+Dragon core. The two have amazing typing synergy, but Terrakion still hits the two very hard with Stone Edge. Heatran also assists Dragonite in slaying one of its best counters in the game, Slowbro, with SolarBeam.

Dragonite (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

Ahh, Dragonite. This Old School Dragon obtained one of the greatest abilities possible, in Multiscale, allowing it to set up on things it normally couldn't, such as -2 Latios, assuming I have it active. What sets this Dragonite apart from the crowd is the fact that it is Jolly and packs EQ, which destroys Heatran after its potential Balloon has popped. With a Jolly nature, I also can outspeed Jolteon at +1, and can OHKO with either Outrage or EQ. EQ is so important because it forces threats like Scarf Terrakion to not bait me into Outrage, assuming I'm at +2, and I can effectively KO and continue sweeping past a weakened Skarmory. The boost in power Fire Punch obtains from Sunny Day is nice against Tangrowth, who can live even Adamant +1 Fire Punch, outside of Sun.

250px-473Mamoswine.png

Mamoswine (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Snow Cloak
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Endeavor
- Ice Shard

With Heatran setting up Sun, I immediately noticed I needed a Stealth Rocker, as well as a Dragon check so I decided to roll with Mamoswine. This classic Gen 4 set performs quite well in 5th Gen, even where there are no real "defined leads." Endeavor is great because I can lay rocks down, then severely cripple something else with Endeavor. Ice Shard allows me to deal with Dragons, and with the Focus Sash, I can unexpectedly stay in on threats like Starmie or Politoed, with no real risk. It is, however a difficult decision whether I should lay down Rocks, on Politoed, or Endeavor expecting Scarf. That's where the next Poke comes in.

170px-121Starmie.png

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin

I wanted to use a spinner to ensure Multiscale would be active, most of the time, so Starmie fit the role perfectly. The fact that it's an offensive spinner fits the style of this team extremely well. With Bolt-Beam hitting everything for damage, bar Shedinja, who dies to SR and other things. It can work in a manner to switch into Specs Toed, if I'm absolutely desperate. The speed jump on Terrakion is also nice.

140px-212Scizor.png

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 152 HP / 252 Atk / 104 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

I picked Scizor because it even further weakens Slowbro and Mamoswine, one of the most obvious ways to deal with Dragonite. It also is a greatly appreciated buffer against Terrakion and Reuniclus who is are huge threats to my team, however Dragonite can set up on it locked into Close Combat, but Reuniclus still gives me trouble.

479-wash.png

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Trick
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Lol. As if I wasn't concerned about Dragonite enough, here's Scarf Rotom-W! Rotom is a solid check to Choice Banded Terrakion, once I've taken the time to scout it. It also revenge kills Gyarados, and Dragonite. I have considered T-Bolt over Trick, just for Sub DD Gyarados, but it still leaves me vulnerable to threats like opposing Virizion, and Ferrothorn who can set up entry hazards on my team. Despite Sunny Day being present on this team, it only lasts 5 turns, which is all I really need, so the washing machine will not be set aside for too long. I could possibly place Scarfed Terrakion here, because Hydreigon with Scarf is a threat to this team.

Hello, Nice team
First off, this team has absolutly no troubles with Celebi. Secondly a rapid Spinner is basically required if you want DNite to do his job well. A pokemon that can both set up hazards and remove them is just epic. Therefore i suggest you replace Mamoswine with a Rapid Spinning Donphan
Donphan @ Leftovers
Nature: Impish (+Def -SpAtk)
Trait: Sturdy
EV's 252 HP/ 52 Atk/ 200 Def
-Rapid Spin
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Ice Shard
Your regular defensive Rapid Spinning Donphan set with a twist. The extra EV's in Attack will allow him to get important OHKO against most Salamence builds as well as being a 2HKO on most DNite with Multiscale intact. Rapid Spin lets Dragonite do its job just that bit better, and Stealth Rock is there for obvious reasons. Ice Shard is here for Still fulfilling Mamoswine's purpose of an Ice Shard user and Earthquake is for a powerful STAB move.
A smaller suggestion Extremspeed> Earthquake/ Fire Punch on DNite. Priority is welcome on any sweeper and DNite is no exception. The replaced move depends on whether you want to be walled by Heatran or Skarmory
Hope I Helped

Hey nice team. Something obvious sticks out to me. If this is a sun team you need Ninetails over Heatran or you nees to give Heatran the Heat Rock. You need one you these to make it a full sun team. I would also recommend a spinner like Donphan. You also should have a Chlorophyll sweeper.

Hey,

Cool team, I think I have some suggestions that would make it flow a bit more smoothly. For one, something I think you should switch is your Mamoswine set -- it doesn't contribute very much in terms of what it does for the team. While I understand your idea, take a hit while laying Stealth Rock and then use Endeavor, is a valid one, I think a simple attacker set would actually suffice. You'd essentially retain Stealth Rock but have more power to rely on when you need it. Additionally, you can do monster damage to some switch-ins, which can really gain a ton of momentum.

Your VoltTurn core seems to be pretty stable to me, but there are a few threats that can haunt your team. First off I'm not too sure what's with your Scizor set -- I would just move the EVs around to give you standard 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe because you're not outspeeding anything noteworthy with that set. As far as threats go, SubDD Gyarados is a major one for sure. A simple change could completely fix this though: use Thunderbolt over Trick on Rotom-W. I'm sure you barely use Trick, and with the power of some of your Pokemon, stall shouldn't be a big problem either way.

Something has to be said for your lack of a Rapid Spin user, as your team is semi-reliant upon VoltTurn. For this reason, it may be safe to consider a defensive Starmie over your Virizion, who in my opinion, does the least for your team. It can use Rapid Spin with crazy survivability, and I urge you to test it out. You seem content with your Heatran set, so I won't bother you as far as it goes.

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Trait: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash / Superpower

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 20 Def / 12 SpA / 224 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Psychic
- Recover
- Scald
Cool team and good luck! I hope I helped.

Its not a sun team.

Good team sir, I'm a huge fan of Sunny Day Heatran it ruins weather teams day ! I usually ran a bulkier Sdef version as it could stay in all day and Shoot off boosted Lava Plumes.

I always hate sitting a Mamoswine, as it was one of my favorite Pokemon in UU earlier this gen. But adding a Donphan can preform almost the exact same roll but add a spinner that will keep your Multiscale intact. The Starmie option above would also work out as well. But running Dragonite without roost and no spinning support looks like it could only hurt.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Endeavor / Earthquake
- Ice Shard

Hey victini!

Your team looks pretty decent, but it seems really weak to entry hazards since it's based on switching a lot, and I notice a huge Terrakion (and Fighting type pokemon in general weakness). For the entry hazards issue, I suggest using Starmie instead of Mamoswine, which is not too important for your team as Scizor and Heatran are already decent Dragon-type pokemon checks. Here's the set:

Starmie@Leftovers | Natural Cure
Timid Nature | 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hydro Pump / Thunderbolt / Rapid Spin / Ice Beam

However, you're still weak to Volt-Turn teams and Fighting type pokemon, since Starmie isn't bulky enough to check them. Celebi can switch in on most of these pokemon and act as a pivot that can dish out hard hits

Celebi@Life Orb | Natural Cure
Modest Nature | 232 Hp / 240 SpA / 36 Spe
Hidden Power Fire / Leaf Storm / Psychic / Recover

Finally, I think you should change your current Heatran set to a more standard one, since your team isn't really needed of changing the weather (you're not weak to any weather really) and your current set can be set up on easily by most Dragon types, which is never a good thing. I recommend using Air Balloon, since it will allow your to check Earthquake Dragonite better. Since without Mamoswine you lack a Stealth Rock settler, Heatran can lay it down now.

Heatran@Air Balloon | Flash Fire
Timid Nature | 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Fire Blast / Earth Power / Hidden Power Ice / Stealth Rock

First off, thanks for the rate! :D

I love the idea of offensive Rapid Spin Starmie with 3 Attacks and Leftovers. It makes me remember that recover is not a necessity on Rapid Spin Starmie. I really do want to keep Heatran running Sunny Day, because it's nice to not have to worry about opposing Tornadus having 100% accurate Hurricane on the rest of my team. Balloon Tran is awesome, but this Heatran also has the ability to wreck and destroy StalliToed, and after it has been weakened, Ferrothorns no longer get a free resist against my Fire Power, and Tentacruel loses out on Rain Dish. Leftovers are required to not get 2HKO'd by Rotom-W's Hydro Pump, and it can work in my favor by disguising my Heatran. Balloon Tran does check Dragonite the best, because of E-Speed's +2 Priority, but it falls against Dragon Spam Teams, where Mamoswine nets some sort of advantage. With Endeavor being able to cripple something greatly, like Slowbro or Bronzong, if it needs to. Mamoswine can also help with the annoying AcroBat. Should I have difficulty with Volt-Turn I'll run the Celebi, except possibly with Giga Drain over Leaf Storm, because it's kinda setup fodder, after.
