This is a team that I threw together for a local tournament I'm attending tomorrow. The tourney uses a weird mix of VGC and Smogon rules (i.e. It's doubles format 4v4 and most legendaries are banned except the Justice and Kami trios and the Lati twins. Also Pokebank mons are allowed.) I've tested it out both on Showdown and in-game and it hold its own very well. But I still feel it's flawed. Looking for any constructive criticism to improve it. So here goes.
Misdreavus @ Eviolite
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Levitate
EV Spread: 248 HP/ 200 DEF/ 60 Sp. Def
-Trick Room
-Will-O-Wisp
-Pain Split
-Protect
This is a take on the old VGC Misdreavus that did work in the finals a bit ago 5th Gen. It seems to stand up relatively well in 6th Gen. I like her natural Bulk coupled with being able to set up Trick Room. Can't be faked out unless the opponent is Scrappy. And has decent recovery with Pain Split if need be. I usually lead her alongside either Krookodile or Kang depending on the situation.
Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite
Nature: Brave
Ability: Scrappy
EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 ATK/ 4 Sp. Def
-Fake Out
-Power-Up Punch
-Protect
-Return
This is my Kangaskhan that is pretty much on the team because it isn't banned. It's done great job as both lead support for Misdreavus by flinching taunters and letting her set up the Trick Room, subsequently allowing Kang to set up and go for max Damage. The only thing that has really hurt Kang ever is Will-O-Wisps and Intimidate.
Krookodile @ Leftovers
Nature: Brave
Ability: Intimidate
EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 ATK/ 4 Sp. Def
-Knock Off
-Earthquake
-Bulk Up
-Protect
I really, really, like this Krookodile. Almost to the point that I considered replacing Kangaskhan with something else because Krook seemed to do her job better. The only thing Kang really has over Krook is Fake Out. Something I really like to lead with on this team. But Krookodile's role on this team is to switch in on Physical threats and effectively render them useless with Intimidate. Then he can either Knock Off an item for free of set up a Bulk Up. Earthquake spread around damage nicely and hits everything on the field that doesn't fly very hard.
Machamp @ Expert Belt
Nature: Brave
Ability: No Guard
EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 ATK/ 4 DEF
-Wide Guard
-Dynamic Punch
-Poison Jab
-Stone Edge
I really only bring Machamp to the match under one condition. That being when I see Pokemon I know will try to slam my team with spread damage. Wide Guard comes into play here, obviously. There have been scenarios where having Wide Guard on this team has saved my butt, pulling me from the brink of defeat to victory. Dynamic Punch and Stone Edge cover alot of ground on the Type chart and doing tons of damage. Poison Jab I sort of put on Machamp as an option to cover against and Fairies that may pop up.
Amoongus @ Black Sludge
Nature: Bold
Ability: Regenerator
EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 DEF/ 4 Sp. Def
-Spore
-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Clear Smog
Trick Room team. Spore. Not really sure if this needs much more explanation.
Togekiss @ King's Rock
Nature: Quiet
Ability: Serene Grace
EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Sp. Atk/ 4 Sp. Def
-Air Slash
-Heat Wave
-Nasty Plot
-Protect
Togekiss is a Pokemon that I put on the team because it was lacking in Special Attackers. To be honest outside of Togekiss it really has none. Amoongus' Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb are nice to have but I'm aware that they wont do much. The plan with this guy is to set up a Nasty Plot and Heat Wave away. I also debated taking off Protect, making that move an attacking move and giving Togekiss an Assault Vest. But that's just a thought. This set fills my need for a Special Attacker while also throwing hax into the equation.
Conclusion: I know the team is flawed which is why I've come seeking different opinions. Any and all criticism is welcome. Because I know it's very much needed. I'm open to suggestions involving swapping out Pokemon and and moves. So, please, let's discuss!
