Hey guys, trying a different team using the following rules - http://paxpokemonleague.net/rules/ . Let me know what you all think and if there are any adjustments you think I should make! (I used the Mega Char Y/TTar/Gliscor Balanced Core as an FYI):

[Summer Is Coming] Charizard-Mega-Y (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Roost

This is the main man that the team is focused around. I’m going for more of a balanced feel with this team so Flamethrower gives me the STAB and the boost during Drought as my fire attack, Solar Beam as a one turn powerful move in my arsenal with Dought out and Hidden Power (Ground) instead of Focus Blast to take care of Heatran for more accuracy. I needed the Roost to help get myself some health back if I’m forced to switch into a Stealth Rock that my Blastoise can’t Rapid Spin out. 4x weakness to rock seriously sucks with Mega Y as compared to a physical Mega X but felt good with the balance that Gliscor and Tyranitar provide.

[Nocturne] Gliscor (F) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 244 HP / 184 SpD / 80 Spe
Careful Nature
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Roost

Gliscor is a nice switch in for possible electric attacks that threaten Charizard. This pokemon is enough to be incredibly annoying to many pokes out there, except those that outspeed it and have an ice move as well as steel types who can’t be poisoned and those that Earthquake doesn’t do much to. I was wondering whether maybe I should take Taunt out and get another attack move when I get screwed and can’t use Earthquake against air ballooned or levitate pokemon especially since I have found hard times to use taunt. I’ve kept it in because it has gotten me out of some tough spots where Wall type pokemon screw me at the end of games and it’s a 1v1. Again, 4x weakness to ice sucks.

[Blue Buff] Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Earthquake

Choice Tyrantiar is nice, especially with pursuit when its super effective against someone who is trying to switch out after I switch him in. Stone Edge scares me at times when I need it to OHKO and it doesn’t and I have to hope I survive but other than that it has been pretty reliable in my offensive core. 4x weakness to fighting isn’t great either and now 3 pokes with 4x weakness kind of scares me, however I have done okay with this core.

[Ice] Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip/Seed Bomb

Ferrothorn is just too good not to have, especially because it neutralizes Gilscor’s ice weakness and takes care of water types. Still debating between Power Whip and Seed Bomb because I like accuracy over high power but threats like Azumaril just get torched by Power Whip. Not sure which route to go there. I usually start with Ferro and go Stealth Rock unless a fire type jumps out first I switch to Blastoise and rapid spin any hazards out and scare them off with the water type and adjust accordingly.

[No, this is Patrick] Clefable (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Aromatherapy
- Protect

I went a strange route with my Clefable and I’m sure I will get some flak for it but I’m curious to hear opinions of this. Magic Guard not only helps me when I switch in during TTar’s sand stream but it also doesn’t take any damage from life orb AND I still get the power boost for Moonblast. It just felt too good to pass up for a bit of offensive power on a Clefable.

[Gragas] Blastoise (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Dragon Tail
- Scald
- Ice Beam

I tried using a Starmie in this spot as a rapid spinner because I needed that water type defensive stature and not only did Blastoise have better health and defensive stats but it also could learn Dragon Tail to take out stat building foes. So he is a rapid spinner and defensive swapper to make sure they can’t stack and sweep. Only issue I ran into is that I can’t get through a substitute/protect ninjask/scolipede with speed boost -_- Scald was a good STAB move with burn possibility and ice beam with the freeze possibility to give me more move balance on my team.

Let me know what you guys think! :toast:

Hi dEnIsSsS ! Thank you for the input :) I see your points and agree with Focus Blast over HP Ground and giving Ferro some special bulk. The things with Clefable and Blastoise are that I am trying to abide by the Pokemon PAX League Rules so multiple leftovers don't work for me which is why I went with a life orb/magic guard Clefable and an assault vest/rapid spin/dragon tail Blastoise for type coverage with special defense/healer and a defensive spinner who can also stop others from setting up and baton passing into a huge threat, respectively.

I'm also trying to get this onto my game cartridge so its incredibly difficult to get a good IV Skarmory with Defog (though still possible) and I've thought about maybe Excadrill but one - he has leftovers so maybe air balloon as an item? idk and two - I have so much ground already with earthquakes from TTar and Gliscor I felt that the Water typing alone gave me less weaknesses to types such as Bug if I had used Starmie as a rapid spinner water type for example, worked better.

I know I am asking for a lot for something that can go to my game cartridge while also abiding by the rules in the link at the top but I want to win some badges at PAX East this year :p Just trying to prep for that haha let me know what you think and thank you again for the help! :)
