MPL Champion
[SET]
Life Orb (Spectrier) @ Life Orb
Ability: Grim Neigh
EVs: 12 HP / 160 Def / 84 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hex
- Hyper Beam
- Will-O-Wisp
- Calm Mind

[SET COMMENTS]

Set Description
=============
Life Orb Spectrier is one of the most threatening Pokemon in the metagame, forgoing Taunt to do obscene amounts of damage. After a Calm Mind, Hyper Beam blows through many Pokemon that typically fare well into it, like Taunt Tapu Fini, Pressure Entei and Porygon-Z. Will-O-Wisp beats many common physical attackers like Ferrothorn and Azumarill while providing natural counterplay against Custap Berry users.

EVs
=============
The defensive EVs allow Spectrier to live Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan Icicle Crash and Choice Specs Magnezone Thunderbolt. 252 Speed EVs outpace Choice Scarf Metagross.

Usage Tips
=============
Life Orb Spectrier is a less reliant on its setup moves than other Spectrier sets and can freely use Hyper Beam against frail attackers like Haxorus and Naganadel. The set fares well into most Encore + Disable users as it usually threatens an immediate 2HKO between Hex and Hyper Beam. However, less common Specially Defensive Aromatisse sets can shrug off Spectrier's attacks and start locking it down. While Calm Mind is typically Spectrier's best move against Primarina, immediately using Hyper Beam can potentially beat less offensively invested sets with Encore + Icy Wind that would otherwise win the exchange.

[SET]
Rocky Helmet (Spectrier) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Grim Neigh
EVs: 96 HP / 248 Def / 12 SpA / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hex
- Mud Shot
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt / Calm Mind

[SET COMMENTS]

Set Description
=============
Rocky Helmet Spectrier utilizes the combination of high physical bulk and chip damage upon being hit by contact moves to beat many of its usual checks, such as Zeraora and Choice Band Landorus-T. Hex, when used in tandem with Will-O-Wisp, blanket checks most of the physical attackers in the tier. Mud Shot is essential coverage that allows Spectrier to beat all variations of Zeraora. Taunt lets Spectrier take on common stall threats like Registeel and Toxic Chansey. Calm Mind is useful against a few special attackers like Custap Berry Primarina and most Kyurem sets. However, the lack of Speed, special bulk and offensive power of this set severely limits the move's utility compared to other Spectrier sets.

EVs
=============
The Defense and HP investment let Spectrier live Jolly Choice Band Zeraora Knock Off. 152 Speed EVs outpace Jolly Garchomp.

Usage Tips
=============
Will-O-Wisp and Hex should be used against Zeraora if the first Mud Shot fails to put into KO range after Rocky Helmet Chip, as Assault Vest or Sitrus Berry sets do negilible amounts of damage to Spectrier. While Taunt allows Spectrier to beat most status reliant Pokemon, this set still needs to be wary of faster stallers like Tapu Koko and strong attackers like Zapdos.

finally qc ready

lorb ev change already approved by mish in dms

helmet can have 12 more spa so im changing that. 120 hp seems to be a vestige from when setcomp sets would bulk for eachother lol (6% roll against setcomp scarftran, its like 20% vs 252+ what r we doin here).

also making taunt primary 4th since cm is lowkey useless, we lose to specs prim/landoi/volcanion clicking their moves twice, doesnt *really* help vs koko, we underspeed naga, zapdos almost always wins.

tbh helmets not really beating any chomps in 2025 so we could prob put more hp for nihi/scarf tran if we rly wanted. think its fine as is though, those are about as significant as the awful base 100s like gapdos u r also creeping.

I'm so qc I could edit a horse

Set Description

Life Orb Spectrier is one of the most threatening Pokemon in the metagame, forgoing Taunt to do obscene amounts of damage. After a Calm Mind, Hyper Beam blows through many Pokemon that typically fare well into it Spectrier (Sounds like it's talking about Hyper Beam when it just says 'it'), like Taunt Tapu Fini (Raises the impression that you should CM into an immediate Beam, maybe put Haze Volcanion as an alternate example? Bit pedantic but it's just clearer.), Pressure Entei and Porygon-Z. Will-O-Wisp beats many common physical attackers like Ferrothorn and Azumarill while providing natural counterplay against Custap Berry users like Rhyperior and Magnezone.

EVs
=============
The defensive EVs allow Spectrier to live Adamant Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan Icicle Crash (Good to mention nature when both are commonly used and Jolly is most natural for someone new to 1v1) and Choice Specs Magnezone Thunderbolt. 252 Speed EVs outpace Choice Scarf Metagross.

Usage Tips
=============
Life Orb Spectrier is a less reliant on its setup moves than other Spectrier sets and can freely use Hyper Beam against frail attackers like Haxorus and Modest Naganadel (Timid Naga isn't super real anymore but doesn't hurt to specify). The set fares well into most Encore + Disable users as it usually threatens an immediate 2HKO between Hex and Hyper Beam. However, less common Specially Defensive Aromatisse sets can shrug off Spectrier's attacks and start locking it down. (Assuming average rolls it looks like even physdef Aromatisse just wins? I guess you beat like Gardevoir but that's not super noteworthy for a fast ghost type, at that point idt you're beating 'most' Encore + Disable users) While Calm Mind is typically Spectrier's best move against Primarina, immediately using Hyper Beam can potentially beat less offensively invested sets with Encore + Icy Wind that would otherwise win the exchange. (Mention the PZ matchup here as there's a bit of a nuanced choice between t1 beam to beat trick scarf and CM for optimal odds vs specs dpulse sets)

Aroma LOspect test matches:
(clicking hyper t1) https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen81v1-2396857639-vy69ffwwbx7jstis2xuklin00hqiyeypw
(clicking hex t1) https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen81v1-2396858524-tmv1rymnqp9e967ry9pwwha2of5ijdppw
Aroma just goes for Trick Room both cases, vs Hyper Beam it got a high roll Moonblast but with a turn of trick room afterwards aroma could've just clicked Moonblast again, 2 Draining Kisses deal more than 1 Moonblast so that move also would've won.

Implement for 1/2, DM me on disc if you dispute anything I claim.
