Lord of Tyrants (OU RMT)

OK, the title's slightly deceptionary, but it got you in, right? This is yet another centralised team, this time focussed around Latias. The general premise is fairly simple – clear the area of Latias’ counters, then sweep. However, as the team has evolved, the idea has shifted into setting up a “sweep” with Scizor, trying to kill Latias’ counters in the process, then let loose Latias to mop up if necessary. Anyway, here’s the team:

infernape.png

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 64 Atk/ 252 Sp Atk/ 192 Spe
Naive Nature
- Fake Out
- Fire Blast
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge

Standard LeadApe, but no less effective because of it. Fake Out + Fire Blast/CC 0HKOs so many poorly-played leads it's goes through not funny and back out the other side. Stealth Rock support is generally useful, but not always necessary, letting me take a somewhat more offensive slant with him (although one notable problem is that this can let Gyarados in to set up).

scizor.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP/ 252 Atk/ 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- U-Turn

Scizor is common enough in theory, but he provides a counter for a wide range of Latias’ weaknesses, such as Tyranitar, Blissey, Mamoswine and Weavile. He can also help keep tabs on Salamence as if he is forced to switch in twice to Stealth Rock, or just takes enough damage, then Scizor can Bullet Punch him to the next generation. Pursuit hits hard on a wide range of Pokemon, the key one here being Gengar, and still come out with a perfect chrome finish.

swampert.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/ 52 Atk/ 216 Def
Impish Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Earthquake
- Avalance

Status absorber, secondary Tyranitar counter, plus Salamence and Magnezone, among other things. Not much to say, but generally a useful and effective Pokemon.

porygon2.png

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP/ 216 Def/ 40 Sp Atk
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Thunder Wave

I started out fishing around for a secondary special sweeper, so that a physical wall at the wrong moment didn’t force me to tip my hand, and I confess that I originally leaned towards Togekiss for the Ghost and Ground immunity. But then I remembered the Dragonslayer Duck. Mirroring back Intimidate onto Salamence and Gyarados and absorbing immunities from Heatran and Vaporeon, Porygon2 covers so many potential holes in the team. Most of his general counters – such as Tyranitar, Metagross, Heracross and Machamp – are already covered by the rest of the team, and while I’m not entirely certain about having both my special attackers Tyranitar weak, I’m confident in my ability to take him out of the picture. Donald Duck, eat your heart out.

latias.png

Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Sp Atk/ 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Calm Mind
- Recover

Finally, the star of the show. With a fair few useful resistances and a Sp Def to match the best of them even without boosts, Latias can easily CM up to god-like proportions (and since this guy plays in Ubers, that’s perfectly serious), and let loose a monster only resisted by Empoleon and Shedinja (both of which are covered, before anyone says). This guy simply puts Buddahs worldwide to shame.

heatran.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4HP
Naive Nature
- Earth Power
- Explosion
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power (Grass)

Heatran is a great revenge killer, but he also serves to take out many of Latias' counters, and generally has good synergy. POrygon2 generally checks Salamence, so he bears HP Grass.

Hello.

Infernape needs a Focus Sash in order to beat many common leads. You Fake Out to break Azelf / Aerodactyl's sash but then they kill you with Psychic or Earthquake as you are slower.

Is it just me, or does Swampert have a Choice Scarf? I assume you mean Leftovers. I would use the standard 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA EV spread and then opt for Stealth Rock / Earthquake / Surf or Roar / Ice Beam. Or you could keep Swampert how he is and give Stealth Rock to Infernape.

Stealth Rock is very important to any team. Let's say every one of your foe's Pokemon switches in twice, that means they take roughly 128% damage. This is even more if your opponent has Pokemon that are 2x weak to Rock, such as Gyarados or Salamence are. Stealth Rock is very important for Scizor to revenge kill Salamence, as Bullet Punch takes out 65% of its health, which won't kill it even after two turns of Life Orb damage. You need Stealth Rock to reliably revenge kill it.

Your team might have some trouble getting around SkarmBliss, assuming Infernape dies early on in the game, the only way you can kill Blissey would be Scizor (Swampert may be able to stall it out, but can't deal enough damage), or to Explode with Heatran. For this reason, I strongly suggest Refresh > Surf on Latias. This lets you come out on top against Blissey thanks to removing Toxic damage and Recover healing off the Seismic Tosses.

Other than this, your team looks pretty good. Good luck to you.

Hey!

At first it´s a good team but I´ve got some suggestions to make your team better.
Leadape is a solid lead but giving him Focus Sash instead of Life Orb is a better choice in my opinion. Also I would give him Stealth Rock over Stone Edge because Stealth Rock is needed on every team. With Stealth Rock you can handle pokemon like Salamence and Gyarados better because they get 25% damage when they switch in. With Focus Sash you always get down Stealth Rock and with Fake Out you can destroy the opponent´s Focus Sash. In addition hanging on Focus Sash will raise Fire Blast´s power because it activates Blaze. The EVs of Infernape are good so I wouldn´t change them.

Then your team has apparently a huge Fightingweak and Agility SubPetaya Empoleon with the Water/Ice Combo sweeps your whole team.
Empoleon can come savely in Scizor´s Bullet Punch and then can start boosting and sub down till Petaya Berry will raise its Special Attacke and getting the Torrent Boost. Also Empoleon can start boosting/subbing on other Pokemon like Porygon2 by predicting Thunder Wave it can use Substitute and if it uses Thunderbolt Empoleon could use Agility and then sub down till the Petaya Berry is working. If that happens you can´t do anything so you have to change something.
As I already mentioned Fightpokemon are also a threat for your team. Especially SD Lucario and Submachamp (Sub, Payback, Stone Edge, Dynamic Punch always kills one Pokemon) are a big problem and can only be revengekilled by Heatran or Scizor. So I think you really need a pokemon with a fight immunity.

So how to solve these problems? At first I would suggest you the Standard Vaporeon Set over Porygon2. It also counters Gyarados (even better) because of its Trait Waterattacks won´t do damage and Stone Edge or Earthquake doens´t do much damage. Even Vaporeon can heal itself with Wish (+ Protect). But the main reason for using Vaporeon is the Agility SubPetaya Empoleon weakness with Water/Ice Combo. Vaporeon has a resistance to Ice beam and Surf/Hydro Pump won´t make damage. If Agility SubPetaya Empoleon has the Water/Grass Combo Vaporeon still can handle it but the better choice is starting boosting with Latias because it can take Surf and Grass Knot easily after one CM.

The Standard Vaporeon Set is:

Vaporeon @Leftovers
Water Absorb
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
- Hidden Power Electric
- Surf
- Wish
- Protect

With Vaporeon you have a nice Wish Support for your team too. Especially Scizor can survive much longer and it´s also very good for your Heatran. Protect is a nice move to scout some Choiceattackers and then you can switch in a resistance to that move. The Wish+Protect Combo is really great so you already can heal yourself.

Now your time is still weak to Fightingmoves. Apart from that your Swampert is a bit weird (Stalker with Choicescarf ? Must be a mistake lol) Swampert doesn´t really fit in your team since you have got Vaporeon in your team now. So you could use Sleeptalk Rotom-A. It also works really well as a Status absorber and it can handle Lucario and Machamp much better than Swampert. If Lucario uses Sword Dance if you switch in Rotom-A you can predict the Crunch and go to Heatran and then killing it. If it uses Close Combat you can safely use WoW so that Lucario isn´t a big threat anymore. Rotom-A is in general better than Swampert because it can handle Physical Sweepers better e.g. Scizor. It can support the team with WoW Support what can be really important.

The Set I suggest is this:

Rotom-A @Leftovers
Levitate
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SDef
- Will-o-wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleeptalk

With that SDef EVs you can handle watertanks like Vaporeon quite better what can be a important advantage because very much Watertanks will switch in Heatran to counter it. Of course you can take special hits much better in general.

So I hope I could help you a bit with your team. Empoleon isn´t a threat now because you can counter every single set. You also can handle Fightingpokemon much better then before. Mixedsalamence is a little threat but with the right prediction and Stealth Rocks you can handle it now too. Just predict Earthquake or a Fire move and switch to Latias ;)

Good luck with your team :)

Sorry, I edited the original document, so there are a few differences. Infernape did have a Focus Sash, and Swampert uses Leftovers. I'll make both the changes above, but one thing that stands out is that now the team is quite vulnerable to DDMence (one of the reasons I chose P2 over other Gyarados counters). What sort of things should I do to resolve this?

Yeah, now you have got a weakness to DD Mence but fortunately it is quite uncommen at the moment. The only thing you can do against it is prediction and you need Stealth Rock really to handle it.
One thing you can do is predicting the switch in and do some damage against it so that you can kill it with Scizor´s Bullet Punch.

CB Scizors Bullet Punch does 58.91% - 69.18% against 331 HP / 196 Def Salamence ( 63.44% on Average ).

So if you can do damage against Salamence at the switch in you can easily revengekill it. But if Salamence comes in without taking damage you have a probleme. In the worst case you have to sacrifice one Pokemon so you can revengekill it then with Scizor. But if you are able to Salamence not get a Dragon Dance you or get some damage, you can revengekill it safely.

So I think with the right prediction you can handle DD Salamence too and as already mentioned DD Salamence isnt really common :)
