Los Tres Dictadores: OU Team by Psycho1402
Hello all! And welcome to my first RMT.
First of all, this is my first post in the Smogon forums. Most of my experience comes from playing Pokemon Showdown and Online, and by watching those Youtubers that upload their battles. Even though I'm not that into the community part of the game, I do enjoy battling, prediction and trying to outsmart your opponent by using different moves and variables.
One day while playing online by WiFi, I come to a battle. Everything was normal, until he brought out a sweeper: Salamence. I managed to take down it's Dragon Dance fueled rampage with a few fainted mons. I try to come up with another plan to win, but as soon as I look to my DS, he presented me with another sweeper. I manage to take it down with my fat-ass and lovable Latias named Sapphire, which could take Special Attacks for days. And then, another freaking sweeper takes her out.
The guy told me about his team. It was Hyper Offensive. I was amused by the concept then proceeded to make a team that did that, plow through the enemy defenses and not letting it breathe.
When I first looked at some Hyper Offensive teams, they all relied too much on prediction. So I was trying to make a destructive team that was easy to use and fun at the same time.
But I wanted power, my 3 champions that could destroy teams by themselves. I chose them while playing with my other teams and playing against all kinds of enemy teams. I saw that I needed originality, to take people by surprise (Feel free to change the nicknames).
The Premier OU Threat: Terrakion
Padrote (Terrakion) @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
The first dictator is a simple gentleman. Close Combat, Stone Edge, X-Scissor/Quick Attack and Earthquake under a Choice Scarf/Band. Knowing this set it's a 101 on online battling. The usual measure is try to predict the attack then switch on a sponge to take the punishment.
The idea of this set, is predicting that switch and making them pay by setting up a Sub or a SD. Now you have a pissed off bull with at least 2 KO's on the opponent's side.
Leftovers are an obvious choice, since there is a Sub involved. I'm not really sure about the nature though, since all the testing has been against other teams without any calcs involved. I say it should be Jolly since the SD gives Terrakion a massive 714 attack. We've got the amazing covering of Fighting+Rock STAB. But Terrakion misses it's Earthquake. That's when the second dictator comes in.
The Original King of Sweeping: Salamence
Hypothermic (Salamence) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 4 SAtk / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
The second dictator knows its job well, and it always had. I considered Scarf, Band and even Specs. But I wanted my core to not be easy switch-in's to where the only factor deciding my opponent's pokemon is the attack I'm locked in. That's when this mister comes into place. Salamence has the ability to set up easily and become the enemy's team demise in just one turn. This set is pretty basic. It's basically the usual MixMence but instead of Draco Meteor, I gave it DD so it becomes a set-upper.
Life Orb gives Mence's attacks that push that they need, and helps with Fire Blast on thise pesky Steel (and mostly Steel/Bug) types. Again, the Nature seems right to me because there is attack boosting through Moxie and DD. We've got 2 Speed and Attack devils. But what I disliked about the generic HO teams were the lack of walls. That's when I remembered the massive tank that amazed me at the end of Pokemon Sapphire.
The Tank Long Forgotten: Metagross
Mr.Thick (Metagross) @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake
- Agility
The third dictator's role is simple: Provide bulk and great resistances while keeping the offensive front. That's until the opponent switches to a faster and stronger Pokemon. Usually, Metagross carries Rocks, but if predicted correctly, Mr. Thick launches an Agility and now outspeeds the fellow that tried to oppose him. Now he has great coverage in the form of Ice and Ground while having that Bullet Punch when in times of need. An Adamant nature is needed, since the boost is only going to speed. But seeing Mr. Thick's 407 attack makes it a good choice. Leftovers are a must, because Metagross is supposed to act as a physically bulky Pokemon until it's time to wreck havoc.
But not always there is chance to set up and try to rip the opponent's team. He can manage to outspeed you and you must take back the offensive. That's when the advisors come in.
The Powerful Lighting: Thundurus-T
Yo-Landi (Thundurus-Therian) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Volt Absorb
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Grass Knot
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
I never liked the Kami Trio. Used a lot Tornadus-T when OU and it was cool. But still, wasn't that fun to use. But this team had a crippling Electric weakness and I remembered my favourite Gen, the first and thought about Jolteon. It kinda worked, but it's moveset was not the best. If not scarfed, it's too slow. If it has a scarf, it's too fast and I had to desist. Then saw Zapdos. I've always loved Zapdos, but I wanted a bit more Speed. I had to choose Thundurus-T, and boy, has it worked. Weather is a constant strategy nowadays, so the inducers are of the most common Pokemon that one may encounter. Ninetales was manageable because of the other 3, and Tyranitar too. But the problem kept being bulky and scarfed Politoeds. Since I don't need Focus Miss (and I usually prefer anything but that piece'a crap move), I can give Thundurus-T both Volt Switch and Thunderbolt. If the enemy team has a weakness to Electric, launch Thunderbolt and deal a great deal of damage on anyone that comes in. If there is a Pokemon that may take the hit and retaliate, you could Volt Switch or launch Grass Knot (checking if the Politoed either stays or leaves) or HP Ice. Also, that HP Ice is crucial because of the absurd amount of dragons in the Metagame. The attacking front is covered, now all that remains is taking care of the integrity of the team.
The Castle That Endures Any Hit: Forretress
Wilson (Forretress) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball/Stealth Rock/Protect
- Toxic Spikes
- Volt Switch/Protect/Stealth Rock
Forretress is amazing. A ball that unless there are hazards up, will do its job NO MATTER WHAT, wheter it's getting rid of hazards, setting up its own or just taking a hit for the team so Mr. Thick can take out that Scarfed Terrakion after a CC with a Bullet Punch. Mr. Thick and Wilson are brothers and they complement each other. Wilson's job is to take Earthquakes and Fire Blasts and whatever is thrown at the team that needs to be absorbed. But he aims to set at least one layer of Toxic Spikes. Since this team lacks support in the form of hazards or Taunt and such, it helps a lot to get at least a regular poison on opposing Pokemon. Also, if in the team preview only 1 or 2 of the enemy's Pokemon are affected by Toxic Spikes, Forretress becomes a spinner and fodder since Toxic Spikes do help a lot, but are not crucial. his job is to die, and be back alive to keep serving the regime. Gyro Ball helps landing a hit on some Pokemon and Volt Switch avoids being trapped by Magnezone and such, and bring in one of the 3 dictators to bring the pain. With the physical part covered, the Special Def was kind of low, and a Calm Mind abuser (such as Reuniclus and Latias, two of my favourite OU mons) could shred my team in no time. That's when I turned into the lesser known annoying blob of marshmellow:
The Blob: Togekiss
Mayonnaise (Togekiss) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Roost
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
In every gorvernment there is a fool. A scapegoat used to blame things on, it could take anything while keeping a smiling face. If you try to take it on, it will hold you, drag you down to its level of blobiness then beat you with experience. Chansey and Blissey are over-rated for me. This is the real annoying blob.
Mayonnaise abuses one of the things I've found you cannot fight in the Metagame. It's not crits, but hax. What she does is paralyzing whoever tries to come in the field then slap it down to the ground with Air Slashes, maybe KO'ing with Aura Sphere. And it has the gut to rest from its slapping, get 50% hp back the go on with slapping you in the face. And there is little that you can do about it. Togekiss' bulk is amazing. I've always feared Scarf Latios. When I see it lead a team I think to myself "That's it, something's going down". But no more, as Togekiss cushions that hit like nothing, then TW's if it stayed or anything that comes in. It's just too fun paralyzing everything then being a dick flinch-haxing them to death, if you differ, fight a Ferrothorn using Togekiss, then you'll see.
Final thoughts:
I haven't found any solid counters to this team. Just some Pokemon like Cloyster, Breloom and Terrakion have to be taken care of ASAP, but that's important for any team.
Thanks to TheTruth: Hippowdon, specifically SpDef bulky ones are one of the mons that can't be easily managed with this team.
Let me know if you use this team and how it has worked for you. Thanks!
