SS OU Love Triangle

This team started with me wondering if Skarmory was viable in OU. I also wondered if it could fit both spikes and stealth rock on the same set. Reading up on him led to me adding Chansey and discovering the synergy between Chansey and Quagsire.

THE MONS

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Roost
Skarmory’s job is to lay spikes and then spread the toxic love with whirlwind. Roost to keep healthy. Rocky helmet to damage would be attackers. 50/50 between it and Chansey as the lead.

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
Specially defensive. Switch into special attacking mons. Paralyze everyone I can. Seismic toss is the only attack. Soft-boiled and switch out to stay healthy. Eviolite gives this mon a little more bulk.

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Curse
- Recover
Chansey’s flip side of the coin. I switch Quagsire in to physical attacking mons, except for grass types OR mons that usually have a grass attack. I also love switching into or baiting would be boosting mons because with unaware, Quag ignores it. Curse to boost. Scald for the burn chance. Recover to stay healthy. Quake for stab and the curse boost.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Bold Nature
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Hurricane
- Roost
Zapdos’s 3 attack move set was chosen over hazard remover because I am a joke and like the miss chance of hurricane. Seriously considering this. Notice this Zap is a little more bulky than the usual. Roost plus leftovers to keep him healthy. Discharge for the paralysis chance.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Bounce
Needed a mon to fill the taunt roll. I also felt like I needed a little more offense. Force a switch and take advantage with DD. Bounce and waterfall hits most everything. Moxie’s pretty nice on top of DD whenever you KO a mon.

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Mystical Fire
- Body Press
Last mon on the team. Diancie’s move set is used to clear the field of steel, fairy and dragon types. If you get the 2xD boost from diamond storm, body press becomes pretty nice. Leftovers to keep it healthy.

Open to whatever suggestions! This team has been making me rise up the ladder pretty quick. A sure improvement from my last team. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!

Oh ya, on a similar note-does anyone have a good answer for Urshifu? He gives every one of my teams trouble. Him and Margearna need to go to ubers.

Word. I’ll try that!
As a stall team, you also really want multiple regenerator mons to be able to heal without expending pp. Good options are AV Slowking-Galar, Toxapex, Slowbro, and if you want offensive presence you can use Torn-T.

team suggestions:
  • Switch Lefties on Zapdos to Heavy-Duty Boots. The whopping 25% Zapdos takes when switching in with rocks up is enough to turn 3HKOs (Rillaboom Wood hammer, for example) into 2HKOs and 2HKOs into OHKOs (+2 Excadrill rock slide). You can't have the happening, especially when Zapdos is your only source of hazard removal. Switch this item to Heavy-Duty Boots.
  • Speaking of Hazard Removal, you need Defog on Skarmory or Zapdos, and preferably both. The given Zapdos set is defensive, so you don't have a need for Heat Wave, which only covers Excadrill and set-up Magearna (Skarm handles both well with Whirlwind). Switch Heat Wave to Defog.
  • Switch Gyarados to Torn-T. As a stall team, you need longevity. Gyarados has no form of recovery and takes 25% from rocks every time it switches in. Switch Gyarados to Tornadus Therian with Heavy-Duty Boots. This gives you a great regenerator option and keeps the offensive presence that Gyarados has. If you really want taunt on Torn-T, it learns it too.
Of course even with these suggestions, some team switches should be made, such as the aforementioned switch-ins for Urshifu and another regenerator pokemon to form a Regenerator core. The above team suggestions I find to be of the most paramount importance, though.

Thank you for your thought out responce! I appreciate it. You really think Torn-T is as an offensive threat as Gyrados though? Probably right on the boots on Zapdos.

Well it depends on what set you choose. The Nasty Plot - Hurricane - Heat Wave - Focus Blast set is a menace (provided it hits) and the only real safe switch-in is Zapdos, which can take a hit and Discharge/Volt Switch back. If you feel the need to have a taunt user, you can use the U-turn - Defog/Taunt - Knock Off - Hurricane set which cripples common switch-ins like Heatran and Zapdos with a Knock Off and maintains health with regenerator.
