Luvdisc DISCussion

Considering Luvdisc's utterly pathetic stats, wouldn't it make sense for it to have an evolved form in the future? (Photoshops welcome.)
It's such a cool concept. I wish it was stronger.

Also, What're the chances of a wild one holding a heart scale?

The chances of a wild Luvdisc holding a heart scale are 50%.
The chances of this thread not getting closed are astronomical.

I've found awesome success with a sleep talk set, ala milotic

Luvdisc @ Leftovers
Rest
Sleep Talk
Surf
Ice Beam

EV'ing it is hard. If you put special attack ev's into it you lose that tankishness that makes Luvdisc such a good choice for a bulky water.

Also with the gain of Lucky Chant this gen, you can stop your opponent from using the only strategy that is successful against Luvdisc, "Luck"

You could also go for a Rain Dance set, as Luvdisc seems like one of the best pokemon to do this with, with base 97 speed. It could be an unexpected move that turns the tide in the battle.

Luvdisc@Leftovers
Bold; 244 Defense, 244 Special Defense, 8 Special Attack

-Aqua Ring
-Blizzard
-Surf
-Sweet Kiss / Attract

227 HP Defense, Special Defense and HP. nothing to say about the set. may catch something out of guard with Blizzard.

Luvdisc@Leftovers
Calm; 252 Special Defense, 116 HP, 140 Special Attack

-Rain Dance
-Surf
-Blizzard
-Aqua Ring

256 HP/ 251 Special Defense. Has some Speed to boot and Special Attack.

Luvdisc @ Focus Sash/Leftovers
-Rain Dance / Toxic
-Swagger / Sweet Kiss
-Attract
-Surf / Toxic

In NU this could get some haxy stalling done. Confused/infatuated has a 25% chance of attacking. If it can't be OHKOd (Focus Sash) it at LEAST gets to inflict one status.

That set is ruined by switches... Luvdisc is probably the one Pokemon on which people won't verbally abuse you for using Double Team.

~Hydro Pump
~Blizzard
~Hidden Power [Grass]
~Agility

This thing does need to hit hard, but if you miss, it's the end of the road. This set is still effectively stopped by Blissey / Dusknoir / Regice, so meh trying to get a sweep.

Still, with terrible Special Attack and a lack of movepool, don't expect it to do nothing but stall against Ludicolo / Manaphy / Vaporeon / Blissey / Dusknoir / Slowbro

The topic starter did not follow the correct format for a discussion, so I guess somebody will drop by and lock this topic

Luvdisc is complete crap and the only reasonable set for it is a rain dance one, to make use of Swift Swim.

Well if you have five Pokemon on your team and you don't need your sixth to do anything, Luvdisc is a good choice!

I'm surprised they didn't give it an evo, actually.

Is Luvdisc any viable in the NU metagame? I never got the chance to even explore that (or NU at all) in Advance.

In NU? Nope. As far as swift swimming goes, Huntail completely outclasses it, as do Relicanth, Seaking and Lumineon. In other news, pretty much any other water type (fully-evolved or not) completely has Luvdisc beat in both movepool and base stats.

The Rendezvous Pokemon.
