Hello everyone welcome to my RMT on my mega Gyarados team. I decided to make this team because I really wanted to use M-Gyara because I think that it's really good and underrated in a meta where it can set up on a lot of common mons such as weavile. Anyways, lets get into the team. And most of all, any and all help is greatly appreciated :)
I Decided to build around Gyarados+Kyurem because I think that they form a very hard core to deal with, and have great synergy. Also I think Kyu-b is a cool mon right now due to all the rock setters getting merked by it.
Looking at the core I noticed i was going to need hazard control and also noticed that i needed something to deal with offense, so I added a sand core of Hippo+drill
At this point keldeo destroyed me, so i added AV Tangrowth to deal with that along with patching up other sand weaknesses and just being a great pivot.
Scizor looked like a huge threat, so I added talonflame to help fix that, as well as give the team another win con and fairy switch in.
In Depth:
Gyarados:
I chose to build around Mega-Gyarados because I really think this monster is underrated right now. As far as dragon dancers in the tier go it's definitely in the upper echelon, but seems to just be forgotten. It has a lot of things going for it such as, great typing before mega evolving, Dark stab is OP, massive amounts of bulk and overall is just a great mon. I went with the sub set because gyarados is able to abuse substitute because of its amazing bulk. Max speed jolly is because Lopunny is very common and this being able to outspeed it makes sweeping just that much easier. This pokemon is amazing and it's kind of sad to not see it get the usage it deserves.
Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
Kyurem:
Gyarados' partner in crime is this monster. Kyu-b is a mon that is nearly impossible to switch into. It puts immense pressure on any fat build due to super strong Bolt-beam coverage and an amazing ability. it's a really good partner for Gyarados because it is able deal with fat waters and electric types with relative ease. The reason I think it is a really cool mon right now is that it is able to put huge pressure on nearly every team due to the fact that most teams stealth rockers are weak to this monster. roost is to improve the longevity, although Hp-fire is something I've tested to eliminate Ferrothorn.
Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 56 Atk / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Earth Power
- Roost
Hippowdon:
Hippowdon was added because the team was in desperate need of something that could take hits as well as reliably set up rocks. Hippowdon fit the bill really well since it is able to blanket check a huge portion of the meta. This guy is my check to a plethora of mons such as talonflame, lopunny, Manectric, Zard-x etc.
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge
Excadrill:
I knew i was going to need Hazard control as well as a way to deal with offensive teams more effectively and Excadrill fit the bill. This thing is a total nightmare for offense as it outspeeds everything and hits like a truck. The only real way to deal wit it is to have super strong priority or have a dedicated check, which Kyu-b/Gyara destroy all of the defensive checks to this thing such as Landorus, Hippo, Rotom. I went with Air balloon because i didn't want it taking too much damage from hazards, and didn't want it to take LO recoil due to it being able to spin is absolutely crucial to the success of this team.
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
Tangrowth:
I originally hat Celebi in this slot, but not having regenerator really kind ruined it's ability to keep switching in and keep the momentum of this team flowing. This thing completely walls keldeo and breloom which are two massive threats to the team, as breloom can decimate the previous four members with priority/bullet seed and keldeo is one of the few waters Kyurem can't really deal with. AV Tangrowth is probably one of the most underrated pokemon in OU. It is able to sponge hits, without losing a ton of offensive presence like, say amoongus. I went with hp fire on this set to help deal with ferrothorn since this thing lures it in. Leaf storm is to keep offensive presence because giga drain isn't needed due to regenerator. EQ, Knock off are very standard for this because they smack common switch ins to this monster.
Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Talonflame:
Talonflame was put here because the team was incredibly weak to bulky mega scizor, but it also helps glue the team together in a lot of other ways. First of all, it gives a solid switch into fairies which the team severely lacked before. 2nd it adds another wincon, and gets a lot of opportunities due to the fact that Kyurem and Gyarados bait in steels which this thing has a field day with. The priority is also nice when dealing with faster teams. Overall it's just a nice glue that seems to tie everything together.
Talonflame
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Bulk Up
- Will-O-Wisp
Anyways, Thats all for the team! As i stated before, any help is appreciated :)
