Hello, sages of Smogon. I'm back into Pokemon after an extended break caused by hating Gen 5 so much. This is my first attempt at making a real team that I would battle people other than friends with. I really welcome any and all feedback. This is a modified version of one of firehusky's sample stall teams found here so I owe him a big thanks. This set is born out of the frustration of my PhD and the never ending stream of dead German thinkers I always find myself reading. May others share my pain ;)
Sableye "Nietzsche" @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
The core of the team and one of my personal favourites. Built to last and built to slowly chip away at any pokemon, especially physical attackers with it's high Def and Will-O-Wisp. The more burns he can land the better as it provides synergy for my other pokes. If I have someone trapped in the ring a couple of calm minds and my shadow ball hits like a truck. Spin blocking is just the icing on the cake.
Mandibuzz "Bultmann" @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 108 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Defog
This team was needing a defogger plus a little extra coverage against fighting types is nice. Heat wave is just an added bonus that might not be expected and could help clear the steel types that I have little coverage against. Honestly, I am not overly sold on having her here but I haven't been able to think of a pokemon that would also work in this place.
Chansey "Schleiermacher" (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Wish
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic
Classic bread and butter stall addition. She keeps herself alive and everyone else alive. I am considering replacing Seismic Toss with either Blizzard or Dazzling Gleam to close up the gap in dragon coverage. Your opinions would be helpful. Toxic is a must have for those ignoring my Will-O-Wisps, especially to set them up for "Gunkel."
Bisharp "Kant" @ Lum Berry
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
The sweeper needed to take out threats that I otherwise wouldn't be able to chip away at. For that reason I want to keep Knock Off, but I admit that Pursuit does look tempting. Swords Dance is for those exceptionally pesky walls to set up for some serious damage.
Tentacruel "Gunkel" @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray
- Hex
The derpy "bulky special" of the team. Kind of gimmicky but I'm new and I like Tentacruel. Good synergy with hex hitting those burned and poisoned targets. Acid spray to wear down other walls. Rapid spin seems like a really good idea to have, especially once I get more used to swapping pokemon in and out.
Trevenant "Wellhausen" @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Earthquake
- Horn Leech
The set up and tear down member of the party that should be able to keep himself going. Earthquake is meant to patch up the glaring electric type coverage hole as well as fend off against fire types in an absolute pinch. Again, I am not super sold on Trevenant either, but I do like its spin blocking, resistance to electric, and immunity to fighting.
Major threats: Flying/electric dual-types of just about any sort, Talonflame, Glisor, probably more if given more time to try it.
I don't want to sink a ton more time into this team if y'all think it's borked, so any advice would be excellent. Thanks!
