It’s always gaming time
[OVERVIEW]
Machamp hits very hard with its staggering 130 base Attack, which is tied for the second-highest in the game. Its high Attack is complemented by access to STAB Submission and powerful coverage options like Earthquake and Rock Slide. Unfortunately, Machamp is very slow, outsped by almost everything in UU, meaning it requires extensive paralysis support to function. However, teams that fixate only on spreading paralysis are quite flawed, and other slow powerhouses such as Golem tend to fit on them better than Machamp. The low Speed means it also cannot deal with any of the partial-trapping move users in UU, even getting Bind locked by Tangela. This slowness is compounded by its Psychic weakness and mediocre Special bulk, meaning threats like Hypno, Kadabra, and even Electabuzz can exploit it. On top of that, Submission's recoil and accuracy can be very difficult to deal with at times. Overall, Machamp's offensive power is not enough to make up for its myriad of issues, making it not worth using in RBY UU.
[SET]
Name: All-out Attacker
move 1: Submission
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Body Slam / Hyper Beam
[SET COMMENTS]
Machamp’s powerful STAB Submission can deal with common Normal-types, 2HKOing Kangaskhan and having a small chance to OHKO Persian, while denting anything that doesn't resist it. Earthquake OHKOes Haunter and 2HKOes Kadabra and Tentacruel (RC) while being a decently strong neutral hit on most foes when Submission's recoil is undesired. Rock Slide allows Machamp to hit Dodrio and Articuno hard, and it can KO the latter from 80% HP and below. Note that Rock Slide cannot 2HKO Dragonite, meaning Machamp usually still ends up as setup fodder for it. Body Slam lets Machamp attempt to spread paralysis while scouting for switch-ins, allowing it to outspeed them the next turn. Alternatively, Hyper Beam is a devastatingly strong attack that can finish off many paralyzed and slightly weakened threats, giving Machamp some late-game sweeping potential.
Toxic can be used to cripple partial trapping move users like Dragonite, Tangela, and the rare Pinsir, causing them to take more damage than they deal when using them. This notably helps against AgiliWrap Dragonite, which can otherwise cause a game-ending scenario. Alternatively, Fire Blast can attempt to burn Tentacruel, which is immune to Toxic, as well as cripple Dragonite, though it is much less reliable than Toxic in the latter case. Fire Blast also 3HKOes both Venusaur and Tangela (RC) and can cripple physical attackers that switch in such as Dodrio and Gyarados. Counter is another solid option, as Machamp's high HP is well suited for use of this move. It can switch into Hyper Beams and deal back massive damage while the foe is recharging, and it can also OHKO Persian using Slash. However, if the opponent is aware of Counter, they can easily play around it, causing it to lose most of its value. Low Kick is a niche alternative to Submission that trades power for accuracy, no recoil, and a flinch chance. Low Kick opens up paraflinch strategies that can surprise opponents. For example, Machamp can use Low Kick to chip a paralyzed Dodrio or Gyarados into range of its Rock Slide and have a better chance of defeating them than relying on paralysis alone. However, Low Kick misses crucial 2HKOs on Dewgong and Kangaskhan from full HP. Machamp necessitates paralysis support to be effective, so it enjoys the company of Hypno, Electabuzz, and Kadabra. These Pokemon also make up for Machamp's weaknesses, as Hypno and Kadabra resist Psychic while Electabuzz resists Flying. Body Slam users such as Dodrio and Kangaskhan can also assist in spreading paralysis to help enable Machamp.
