tumblr_m1658i3Xj51qd87hlo1_500.gif

[Overview]
  • Outclassed as offensive fire by Rapidash,Simisear, and Ninetales because of Magcargo's poor special attack, defensive fire by Torkoal
  • Outclassed as offensive rock by Carracosta because of below average special attack, as defensive rock by Carracosta,Probopass, and even Carbink because of SR weakness and terrible typing
  • Great supportive movepool (Memento,Screens,Stealth Rock)
  • Gets access to reliable recovery
  • Fire/Rock grants a typing that is weak to rocks and quad weak to common types such as water and rocks
  • Stealth Rock weakness is very detrimental to Magcargo making it easy to pressure
  • Very slow and bait for Taunt users such as Misdreavus
  • Magcargo has a bad matchup versus most leads and other SR setters (Pilo,Golem,Carracosta)
[Set]

Name: Support / Status Spreader
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Lava Plume
move 3: Toxic / Ancient Power
move 4: Recover
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Calm
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD

[Set Comments]
Moves
==============
  • Stealth Rock benefits all teams as it wears down foes switching in while also breaking Study and Sashes
  • Lava Plume is Magcargo's choice of stab, providing the infamous "30%" chance to burn
  • Toxic hits common checks/counters to Magcargo such as Poliwrath, Pelipper
  • Ancient Power is another option to hit fire types such as Ninetales and can also hit Dodrio
  • Recover preserves Magcargo and keeps it around
Set Details
================
  • 248 EVs in HP maximizes Magcargos bulk and also allows Magcargo to come in on Stealth Rock 5 times
  • 252 EVs in SpD along with a Calm nature help Magcargo tank special attacks easier
  • Flame Body is the chosen ability for lucky (skillful) 30% burn on contact moves
  • Leftovers is the preferred item, as it gives Magcargo passive recovery to take hits longer.
  • A specially defensive set lets Magcargo avoid the 2HKO from Zebstrika while Lava Pluma + Toxic / Burn can stall out Zeb
Usage Tips
=========
  • Magcargo is not always a lead, but seeing as it has Stealth Rock it is a good idea to get them up early game
  • Be wary of SE coverage moves run such as Superpower on Stoudland, Focus Blast on Regice
  • Be aware of status abusers such as Machoke and Ursaring, as well as Flash Fire users such as Ninetales and Rapidash.
  • When predicting a switch to Ninetales, Rapidash, Poliwrath, and Pelipper use Toxic / Ancient Power
  • Use toxic / lava plume to spread status around the opposing team
  • Be wary of taunt users as Magcargo is slow and this will prevent Toxic / Stealth Rock
  • Magcargo should mostly be used to check special attackers but can check Physical attackers because of high base def stat
  • Be wary of toxic and rocks as Magcargo can be easily pressured and worn down
  • Use Magcargo to switch into Pokemon such as Dodrio, Zebstrika, and Rotom-F.
Team Options
=================
  • Other hazards support from such mons as Roselia and Quilladin helps wear down foes and keep pressure on the opposing team
  • Spin-Blockers such as Misdreavous and Gourgeist are good to keep hazards on the field
  • Set-up sweepers and wallbreakers that appreciate the stealth rock by Magcargo such as Ursaring, Jumpluff, Carracosta, and Barbaracle
  • Sawsbuck, Roselia, and other grass types can handle the ground and water attacks Magcargo struggles with
  • Mons who benefit from the other team using defog such as Pawniard and Purugly can be used for defiant
  • Jumpluff is a great teammate being able to take all SE hits thrown at Magcargo bar rock hits also Poliwrath and Pelipper could be good options to take water attacks, and Pelipper can also take ground attacks.
  • Rapid Spin users and Defoggers can help with Magcargo's Stealth Rock weakness, spinners are preferred as your own hazards stay
  • Clerics can cure the poison that is very annoying to Magcargo (Wiggilytuff,Misdreavous,Meowstic)
  • Magcargo fits mostly on bulkier offensive teams or balanced ones as it is completely outclassed by golem on hyper offense.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=================
  • Magcargo gets access to cool support moves in dual screens and memento which could be used with a light clay set to open up holes for other teammates to set up , although outclassed by Meowstic-M and Solrock in this regard
  • Earth power can be used to hit rock types harder than Ancient Power
  • A max defensive spread of 252 hp 252 def 4 SpD bold can be used to check physical attackers better
  • Will-O-Wisp can be used to punish physical attackers even further and to even boost Magcaro's physical bulk through the roof, although with the good chance of a Lava Plume burn, Toxic is still prefered
  • A set of offensive shell-smash with max SpA max Speed with a Timid nature with Ancient Power / Fire Blast / Earthpower / ShellSmash

Checks & Counters
=================
**Water Types** (Poliwrath, Relicanth, Pelipper, Carracosta, Floatzel with water veil) Watertypes can switch in on Magcaro's STABs and not care bar a lava plume burn, with Floatzel not caring at all. Magcargo can annoy with toxic.

**Ground Types** (Golem, Piloswine) Golem can switch in relatively free, bar a lava plume burn and force Magcargo out with an earthquake, and Piloswine can easily

**Taunt users** (Grumpig,Mag) Taunt shuts down Magcargo's recovery and toxic, limiting the pokemon a lot.

**Residual Damage** Stealth Rock and Toxic severely limit Magcargo's survivability. Magcargo loses to common Stealth Rock setters such as Pilowine and Golem

**Magic Guard** (Clefairy/Duosion) Come in for free and not care about Lava Plume burns through magic guard, and can set up Calm Minds for free.

**Fighting Types** Guts Machoke can absorb A Will-o or a lava plume burn and KO Magcargo with a boosted STAB attack or force it out. Monferno is a decent switch in as Ancient Power is neutral and cannot be burned by Lava Plume. And Poliwrath is only phazed by toxic, and can easily force Mag out with a 4x effective STAB attack.

hi! I'll try to help you! (keep in mind this is not a QC check). :o

Overview:
Mention why you would use Magcargo over Piloswine or Torterra as a Stealth Rock user
Mention its weakness to Stealth Rock
Mention its low Speed

Moves:
What does Lava Plume target? (eg. grass types such as tangela)
What does Toxic hit? (eg. defensive walls)

Set Details:
Name some special attackers that Magcargo can tank with that EV Spread
mention 248HP in order to switch in stealth rock 5 times

UT:
mention that it should not switch in too much when stealth rock is on the field
mention that it should Recover when it is at low health

TO:
Mention Defiant users such as Pawniard so defoggers such as Pelipper have to be careful when defogging
maybe mention Bulky Water-types such as Poliwrath, Pelipper

OO:
Shell Smash?
Rock Polish?

C&C:
Mention Fighting-types such as Poliwrath and Machoke

also format C&C like this:

eg. **Bulky Water-types**

http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/the-new-analysis-formatting-guide.3537802/
Use that for the analysis. Fixing the formatting is very very important

Overview
Condense all the outclassed stuff. It's outclassed, you don't need 70 bullets for it
List actual qualities. It has decent resists, easy to KO, whatever. Try looking at other analyses to see how to do it, because this is basically just "bad bad bad" without telling me anything about the mon

Set
Fix formatting
Idk about other QC opinions but I'd at least slash ancientpower with toxic as you aren't ninetales fodder and can hit a lot more stuff with it
Also change to Calm and go full spdef, I don't know what bold does for you

Moves
This is really short and obvious, there's more to say. For example, "Toxic hits common checks/counters to Magcargo" ---> "Toxic cripples common switch-ins to Magcargo such as Pelipper and Poliwrath". This will have to come out when you write it up, but this should still be more in depth

Set Details
Again, not much in depth or anything. Look at other analyses
Mention what leftovers do
Don't forget to change to calm here too

Usage tips
What run water and ground coverage moves? Still very very basic
Be aware of status absorbers and do what? this is usage tips, give me a tip on what to do
This can definitely be expanded on. Not great at this part but stuff like "use toxic/ancientpower when opponents have an easy switch to a fire immunity or resist like ninetales or poliwrath" and stuff like that is good

Team Options
MORE STUFF
Water switchins, phys def pokemon to take spdef hits, any pokemon that goes exceptionally well with it (jumpluff kinda comes to mind as taking like every SE hit aimed at it and checking most of its threats, but this is really your job)

OO
Offensive smash
BEEF IT UP

checks and counters
Fix the formatting
Anti-leads aren't necessary, taunt users would be better
Clefairy/Duosion are pretty big since they easily switch in and CM all over mag
The waters/grounds/whatever don't have to be bulky, remove that part
Fighting types
WAAAAAY MORE STUFF

yeah mostly just write more

fix formatting

[OVERVIEW]
mention why it's outclassed as an offensive fire-type
mention why it's outclassed as a stealth rock setter both defensively and offensively
''Other stealth rockers like Torterra and Pilowine are available'' this is pointless remove
mention what the access to a decent support movepool allow magcargo to do
tbh the typing is terrible because of weakness to rocks you mentioned and 4x weakness to common water and ground types, so change it
what the access to recovery allows magcargo to do
mention why weakness to sr is very detrimental to magcargo(hint: easy pressurable)
mention this is really slow and taunt bait for pokemon such as misdreavus
mention magcargo has a bad matchup against most stealth rock setters and leads

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
move recover to last point

Set Details
========
merge first two points
when you talk about spdef investments mention some pokemon magcargo can deal using this investment

Usage Tips
=========
mention that magcargo should mainly switch into special attackers, but it can also deal with some physical attackers because of its high base def
mention magcargo has to be weary to taunt users as it is really slow and they will prevent it from setting up rocks or using toxic
magcargo should also be careful about being poisoned, as the residual damage will stack up w the sr weakness and will make it easy to pressure

Team Options
========
mention rapid spin / defog users as they will help magcargo w sr weakness, and mention rapid spin users are preferred because they don't remove own hazards
''If Magcargo is running a SpD set a mon to take physical hits like Tangela could be a good teammate.'' remove bc it is actually running a spd set now
''Jumpluff is a great teammate being able to take all SE hits thrown at Magcargo bar rock hits.'' merge this with 3rd point
''Sawsbuck, Roselia, and other grass types can handle the ground and grass attacks Magcargo struggles with'' magcargo doesn't really care about grass attacks, replace with water-type moves, which actually bother magcargo and can still be checked by grass-types
mention clerics to cure from poison which is a pain

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=================
''Earth power can be used to hit other fire types'' mention why it could be remotely used over Ancient Power

Checks & Counters
=================
rename status into residual damage and talk there about Stealth Rock weakness too.

Peli QC 1/3

Late on my end, so I give you some tips. For moves, I'd replace the Pelipper mention to something like Dodrio as Magacargo shouldn't be in against Water-types anyway. For Set Details, give some examples of what special attacks Magcargo can take with a specially defensive spread(Ex: Zebstrika 3HKOs with Thunderbolt while Magcargo can use Lava Plume + Recover to wear it down). In Usage Tips, you can Pokemon Magcargo can switch into (Dodrio, Zebstrika, etc.). For Team Options, I'd replace Ninetales with something like Barbaracle or Carracosta as Ninetales combines common weakness which you don't want. When you talk about hazard removal, you say that defoggers are preferred as your own hazards stay. You meant to say spinners, not defoggers. Also give examples of what clerics heal Magcargo of status. Also mention what kind of team Magcargo fits on. In other options, when you mention Will-O-Wisp, mention that Lava Plume alreay has a good chance of burning the foe, so Toxic is still preferred. Also, when you talk about dual screens, mention that its outclassed by Meowstic-M and Solrock in this regard. Fix the formatting for Checks and Counters as its all over the place (you mentioned Carbink under Water-types @_@). Replace "Calm Mind Psychic-types" with "Magic Guard" (last time I checked, Clefairy wasn't a Psychic-type). Fix the mention about Toxic and rename it "Residual Damage". Raiza did mention this, so mention Stealth Rock and keep the mention about Toxic and give examples of Stealth Rock users that can threaten Magcargo. I know this is your first analysis, so I'll check this again once you implemented these changes.

For Team Options, I'd replace the clerics you mentioned with Lickilicky, Grumpig, and Hypno(much more common than Wigglytuff and Meowstic isn't a cleric, Misdreavus is fine). When you talk about Shell Smash in OO, mention that its typing and its terrible Speed hold its back from sweeping and faces competition from Torkoal in this regard as well. You also forgot to finish your sentence regarding Ground-types in Checks and Counters. Also make sure to clarify your points when you write this up as it makes it easier on GP.

2/3.

In your overview it says quad weak to water and rocks. idk but shouldn't it be ground?
Clear Smog is worth a mention,imo, it's good for opposing Pokemons that set plus the set-up sweeper that is immune to it is Pawniard and you can just Lava Plume it.
