Magearna's excellent defensive typing, great bulk, Soul-Heart, which is synergistic with Stored Power, and good boosting options allow it to act as a niche setup sweeper in Ubers UU. Stored power can muscle through Pokemon like Dialga, Unaware walls such as Clefable, and even Calm Mind Blissey with enough boosts. Draining Kiss gives Magearna semi-reliable recovery. Shift Gear makes Magearna faster, allowing it to outpace checks like Arceus-Fire and Landorus. Iron Defense is a niche alternative, making Magearna incredibly difficult to KO on the physical side, which can be helpful against threats like Great Tusk and Arceus-Fire. Stored Power synergizes excellently with all of these setup moves, giving Magearna a way to muscle through walls its struggles against like Dialga. Soul-Heart makes Magearna more offensively potent and naturally synergizes with Stored Power. Tera Water is an excellent defensive typing, allowing Magearna to set up on Pokemon like Great Tusk, Kingambit, and Palafin. Magearna fits best on hyper offense teams, although it also can work on balance teams as well. Because of how long it can take Magearna to get set up initially, dual screens and Aurora Veil from Regieleki, Deoxys, and Alolan Ninetales support Magearna well. As a result, Pokemon like Palkia-O, Palafin, and Landorus-T that can deal with these threats can be helpful to have. Draining Kiss is the STAB move of choice and gives Magearna semi-reliable recovery. Calm Mind boosts the power of Magearna's attacks and makes it more bulky on the special side, while Shift Gear makes Magearna faster and allowing it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame. Iron Defense is also a niche option, making Magearna incredibly difficult to KO. Both All three moves also boost the power of Stored Power. Leftovers gives Magearna small valuable recovery.
